Still somewhat in the speculation stage, the following components are what I am considering for an upgrade primarily pointed toward FSX. I may scratch my posteria until something else is available that changes the whole ball game, but this is my present consideration: I am not sure of the particular part no. for memory yet as the Asus link for compatible memory is down for sync. right now so those part no's. may change.I am also still debating whether to splurge a little deeper and go for an E6700 or even ultra processor, and/or the 8800 series video card for at least the primary. From what I read, the E6600 seems to be the best bang for the bucks and overclocks a bit bet…

Does anyone have a realworld feel as to whether there is a significant difference in the performance of the nForce 590 SLI and nForce4 SLI x16 Chip sets? Is one significnatly better than the other?I realize that the new nForce 6801i SLI chip sets are probably superior and speculate upon that option, but am a little apprehensive of their implementation at this early date (and their price for that matter).Boards currently under consideration are Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe (SLI x16 chip set), P5N-E SLI and P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP (590 SLI chip sets). I like the separation of slots on these boards, and particularly the dual IDE/PATA connectors on the first two. No, I am not s…

Hi guys,I'm considering building a new pc now with thoughts of upgrading to Vista in the future. Both XP Pro and XP Media Center edition come with Vista "upgrade coupons". XP Pro allows upgrade to Vista Business edition and Xp Media Center allows upgrade to Vista Home Premium.Prices: XP Pro - $139 XP Media Center edition $109I'm not familiar with Media Center edition at all. Does anyone know if I can disable any "Media specific" features? The fear is I don't want any Media Center specific system hogging services or applications stealing CPU cycles.Which OS would you guys get? Thanks.

It seems there are quite a few "optimized" Catalyst drivers out there, for instance Omega, Warcat, NGO, etc. Has anyone got experience of these as they apply to FSX? I tried out Warcat and felt I got a marginal FPS improvement. My code is an X800XL.Simon

In consideration for an upgrade of my system, primarily for FS use I have come up with the following questions: (There will probably be many more).1. To get the simple question out of the way first, Do Micro ATX Motherboards also fit the larger ATX cases without any problem, or must they be installed in unique Micro ATX cases?2. In looking at Motherboards, many have the PCIe x 16 video slots so close to the first old school PCI slot that the PCI slot is not useable (Same for some AGP slots as well particularly with a cooler on the video card). I see other motherboards that are available where the separation between these slots really should be no problem, at least with so…

For years I have used an old C: drive 2gb in size. It is in NTFS format. However, this is "thin ice". So, with Windows XP/SP2 on my D: drive, is there a way to make the D: drive the boot drive or must I always have a C: drive? Guess I could just reinstall Windows without the C: drive connected but then I would have activation issues as well as redoing all of the programs who expect to be on the "D": drive.Regards,Dick Boley

Jet ways, fuel trucks et al buzzing around. Aircraft wings flexing and responding to weather. Near to puke bag response!(lol)Rain? Does not stick on window, but rain effects on ground amazin…

Is anyone using this card? If I change the filtering in FSX to anistrophic the screen gets so many shimmers you can hardly stand to look at it! I thought the quality was to get better as you went up. Ironically I get the best picture on bilinear?? Another oddity is as I raise the filtering the FPS goes up but the pictures get worse? Input is appreciated and Thanks...............Brian

It seems that during the winter time my computer is exposed to damp conditions. As a matter of fact I just fried something (hopefully just the power unit and nothing else but it will be awhile before I know). Is there a case or method to keep mositure out of the computer that works best? I'm guessing an insulated box around it for when not in use might be the only way but would love to hear any other ideas.

I presently have an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe Motherboard with a socket 478 3.2 GB Pentium Processor.I am in the process of speculating upon what hardware to purchase for an upgrade, and how soon to do it. (LGA775 Socket for Core 2 duo plus PCI Express x 16)My present motherboard provides one PATA and two IDE ports. This allows me to have a combination of one pair of SATA in addition to one pair of IDE hard drives in a four drive Raid 0 configuration. The two SATA HD's are connected to my Serial ATA ports, while the two IDE HD's are connected to the PATA port with a conventional two place IDE ribbon cable. This has worked very well for two or three years. I also implement a larg…

I've been using Diskeeper for several and I've never had a problem before. I wanted to defrag FSX so I ran the usual Diskeeper defrag. Once it finished the report still says the drive is heavily fragmented. I've tried running the defrag multiple times and it just keeps saying the same thing. Meanwhile if I analyze the drive using the built-in Windows defrag, it tells me that the drive does not require any defragging. So the problem is definitely with Diskeeper. I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling and I still have the same issue. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Thank you.

Hello all.Previously, I had been running on a P4 2.8 Ghz (800 MHz FSB) with 1 GB PC3200 and an ATI Radeon 9550SE. With no autogen, I had vey low settings (lowest quality terrain, no traffic, water high 1.x, but textures at 1m with 4x AA and 4x AF to achieve 20fps sometimes, usually around 15-16, always very stutter-y, etc.Yesterday, I installed an x1650Pro 512 MB. FSX looks STUNNING now, and is smooth.Locked at 24 fps (and very smooth all around):Still no autogen (don't like it anymore).Bloom ON (I'll never go back)Terrain 3xm, 80%, medium high cloud density with 70 mi draw, water low 2.x, Scenery Complexity Dense. It's LOCKED at 24. It only drops lower on missions (par…

Hello, I am thinking of purchasing a new computer just for FS2004 and I would like to know if the spec's below will give me fluid performance during all aspects of flight with todays addons because my old Dell is far below standard. For example on approach to LAX with Ultimate Traffic,Cloud9 LAX and PMDG 737 I will get 5-17FPS I would like to move up and I was wondering if this would do the trick.ThanksASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition CPU AMD Athlon 64 (AM2) x2 4200+ Ram 2 x Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 1024MB Video Card Asus GeForce 7950GT 512MB

HiI'm a returning simmer who's taken a couple of years out from simming, but with the advent of X have been tempted back into the fold.I find myself with two pcs, one and oldish Shuttle based on a Athlon XP 2600+ with a ATI 9600 and a new Athlon 64 3000+ with a Nvidia 6600 PCI express which runs my HTPC. both PC have only 500mb ram and run XP pro. both video card have 128mb ram on board.Anyhow I got hold of the X demo off the PC Pilot Mag and ran it up on both machines. On the 64 with a big plasma it ran like a dog, useless, waste of time.Just for a joke I ran it up on my old machine and was able to get around 18fps while island hopping.so the question is.Which machine …
