I'm not sure what happened, but when I turned my computer on after having it turned off for about a week everything is messed up with my graphics card. When I first start Windows the screen has dots all over it. Once I am at the desktop everything looks fine. I then decided to run FSX and I get a message about my graphics card not being compatible with FSX. I then tried to run FS9 and got messages about how direct3D was not working and running FS9 might lock my computer up. I ran FS9 anyway and in the display hardware menu it is blank. The image when running FS9 is really bad. I have tried uninstalling the graphics card and reinstalling it and I have tried uninstalling an…

At a first glance of the recently released Geforce 800GT 512MB GPU I was astonished that after just 12 months of the release of the 8800GTS/GTX(my 8800GTS 640MB is actually still under warranty until next week) we are hearing and seeing reviews & reports suggesting that the 8800GTS is now effectively written off!Yes, I understand that the 8800GT has a different architecture, and utilises more transistors, yet drawing less power than the GTS due to its smaller 55nm process. It supposedly outperforms the GTS in almost everything, excepting the odd game in very high resolutions where memory is a factor. Worse still, the 8800GT is so much cheaper then the GTS ever was (if…

I recently had to reformat and reload all my software. I get a max of 20fps which drops to about 5 when take off roll starts. I have the old image on a second drive. I boot that drive and get about 60fps which doesn't drop during take off. My system is a homebuilt AMD 3800+dual core running at 2.6GHz, a BFG 7600GT OC running at 640/1650, a WD 250gig SATA 2 drive. I am using the latest Nvidia drivers and have loaded the lates Nvidia platform drivers and the AMD dual core optimizer and the Microsoft dual core hot fix. I also play silent Hunter 4 and it runs at the same framerate it did before the reload. I've tried setting FS2K4 to low settings and no help. I'm running at 1…

I have FS 2004. I have had problems running a few new add-on aircraft that my friend gave me. The new aircraft would load onto my computer and the FS program fine, but when i went to select the new aircraft to fly, the whole program shut down, went to the desktop. My friend seem to think that this problem is due to a shortage or RAM. I currently have 512MB of Ram, although i am about to upgrade to 1GB of Ram. Do you think that this would help solve my problem? I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. :-)

I keep wanting to finally upgrade to a new unit with all the good stuff.I hesitate because I dread having to reinstall all my FS stuff. If I do a complete backup copy to an external HD can I reinstall FS clean and then just copy my backup over the top and overwrite all the files etc I have changed? If so do I have to reinstall GEX,UTX etc or can I just copy these to the backup and copy them back to the new unit?I plan on having 2 internal HD's and my external for my backups.Keeping FS separate on 1 drive and all other programs on the main dr.Am I trying to make this too easy?Could the computer shop that will build the unit do this? Thanks for any advice.Ron any advice.

I have heard several mention that Phil Taylor posted information on how to edit the Vista boot.ini file to improve some of the memory issues with FSX/vista. Does anyone have a link or details? I have searched the blog and various other places and have not found what I am looking for.My understanding is that since I have 4 gigs of RAM and Vista 32 there are some tweaks I should make. I do have FS acceleration installed which helped some. I have heard there is more that I can do however. True?Thanks...

Hi All,Just got a new puter for Christmas which Mrs. Claus says I can't use until then. (she's no fun). It comes equipped with two 500GB hard drives. It also is preloaded with Windows Vista Home Premium.I've read of some complaints about using FSX with Vista so I'm a little leary of it. My question is would it be feasible to install Windows XP on the second drive and load FSX on each drive to see how they compare and use the one that performs better. Is there any problem of having two operating systems on the same machine as long as they are on separate drives? Is there any particular thing I should be aware of in doing this?Any advice would be greatly appreciated.Jim

Hallo everybody,Got my FSX running relatively smooth by now.I attempted to fire up another monitor i have plugged to my PCI-E Asus A800XL card.Windowed mode minimized I tried to pull edges of the FS screen window to another monitor to have it spread over the two of them.Unfortunately, the second monitor part is all black (nothing visible on it) and frame rate drops dramatically to 5-6fps with long stutter. Is that a limitation of FSX or am i doing something wrong here? Thanks for your help,Dom

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!Aside from the apparent wide view in windows and big screen, the quality of the panel and the sheer SIZE of it. Wow.Now I am a happy simmer - screen wise :) Only thing that I was looking for was a screen that can scale and look good at the same time: scale FS9 into 1600x1200, and run the screen with black bars - awesome. And if I wish for wide view, also can set it up for that. All on the fly. Also, I love the quality over the 226BW, which I have just tested prior to 245B. Took both from the shop home for testing :)But the size...omg the size :D I just can't stop staring into it :DEDIT: The best of two worlds imo... both for 4:3 aspec…

Tweaktown already has a full test (well, almost... no FSX test as usual) of nVidia's new video card to be released in a couple weeks. Hopefully, they'll make more GTS' for the initial release than they did the 8800GT. :-) http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/1234/1

I have a new Dell quad core, 2 meg 1066 ram and dual 8800 GTX video cards. (I get a solid 20-30 fps). Here's the Problem:Every now and then, my system crashes due to that "Low memory" warning. I noticed it only happens when I am looking at extenral views (say looking left or right during an approach for an extended time >10 seconds) or looking at the airfield view (Shift ]) when finding my position at the gate. I noticed my system memory uses up 60-65% for FSX when I first start FSX, but each time I look at an external view, it (system memory) builds up by 1-2%. After I quit that view, the system memory stays atthe new level, thus looking at multiple views wil event…

Hi,I'd like to change my graphic card for better framerate both in FS2004 and FSX.I actually have a GeForce 7600 GT with 256Mo video RAM. I find that 256Mo is not sufficient, especially for FSX ! I'd like to buy the Radeon X1950 XTX 512Mo. According to you, is it a good purchase ?Here is my PC configuration :Athlon 64 X2 4200+Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9-RH2048 Mo DDR PC3200Windows XP SP2Thank you.;-)Damien - LFQQ.http://damiendelille.free.fr/Cliparts/Avion.gif

Well just read an article about the new Penryn QX9650 CPU from Intel and it seems the first set of QX9650 may not be a vast improvement over the QX6850 as we all may have wished for.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/180855.jpgArticle: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,138844-p...cs/article.html

I've seen Tom's Hardware FSX benchmarks that show the ATI at 15fps vs the nVidia at 22. Has anyone actually switched from a 1950XT 512MB to an 8800GT 512 and experienced such a large increase?Just curious before I get in line with the rest of the world to find an 8800GT. Thanks -E6850 2GB WinXPX1950XT 512MBP35 Motherboard

Hi All Trying to find a solution for the antiailising problem I have in as such, that since I have installed my new graphics card which is an 8800 ultra I cannot get good looking graphics on FS9. I try and use different settings for my problem using NVIDIA control panel and using flight sim control panel, both have no affect what so ever. How can I get rid off all these jagged edges on the aircraft and on some ground textures? Hope i ahve explained all ok. Regards Shaun
