Specs: Core2Duo E6600, 4 Gb OCZ RAM (800MHz), Nvidia 8800GT (512Mb), Win XP Pro SP2, FSX with Acceleration. System properties shows RAM as 3.5 Gb (as expected).I have boot.ini set up with userva=2650, and have checked FSX.exe with CFF Explorer to confirm that "App can handle > 2Gb addresses" (which it is automatically with Acceleration). Here's how the end of my boot.ini line reads: "/noexecute=optin /fastdetect /3GB /userva=2560"And yet, when I've got FSX running on one screen and Task Manager open on the other, FSX never seems to go above 1 Gb in the "Mem Usage" column of Mem Usage. My paging file size is initial 4092 Mb, max 6138.I don't see why FSX isn't using more …

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Would someone tell me if there is a way to lock the 2D clocks on the ATI 3870 ?I have rivatuner and there is no selection to fix the 2D Clocks. The problem is I play FSX and FS9 and use the window mode due to using a second monitor and the clocks keep jumping from 2d which is only a core clock of 300 to 3d which is 777 by default. Fsx frames crawl when 2d kicks in which is crazy. I want to just fix the card to run 800 core and 2400 memory all the time.Would some smart Soul out there tell me how to do this please !!!!Frames are great when running the 800-1200 but when running 300-1126 Frames su…

Here's an odd one: I have an older machine, that came with Windows ME. Years ago I bought an XP upgrade for it. I want to rebuild the machine using a newer hard drive (160gbyte) as the primary drive. However FAT32 doesn't support such a large drive. However I can't install my XP until it sees a valid OS, like ME, and ME doesn't support NTFS. Currently I run XP on that machine on a smaller drive (80Gb, FAT32).How can I install XP on the larger drive?Jon

I have just been playing around with MEMSTATUS. It shows what System RAM and Video RAM is being used by the computer at a given time.I noted that, while flying a complex addon a/c, about 80% of my system RAM was being used - but only a small amount of Video RAM (about 20%) was being used.It also showed that my available video RAM was actually more than I have installed on the vid card - but that my usage of system RAM as reported by MEMSTATUS was more that that being reported by the WindowsXP Task Manager.Has anybody got any comments to make regarding all this. It appears to me that an amount of system RAM is being allocated for use as Video RAM - when it is not really ne…

I ordered 2 more sticks of RAM this morning, which will bring my total up to 4 Gb. (Matching brand and model, no overclock.)I've been reading up on how to make use of this in FSX, and it seems to me there are four steps, three if you have Acceleration.1. Edit boot.ini; see http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=405828&page=5(2. Modify FSX.exe to use extra memory. [This is not necessary with Acceleration, since it's already been done.])3. Download and install the latest (November 2007) DirectX update: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=7634584. Prior to this summer, DirectX had a bug that conflicted with using more memory; see http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive…

Just in case someone else runs into this...I've been running a 17 inch monitor at 1280x1024 for years now, without incident.Yesterday, I took the plunge and upgraded to a 22 inch LG monitor at 1680x1050 resulution. All went well, until I tried accessing the menus in FSX a second time (first time was OK, changing resolution).. At 1680, I could drop down the first level menus, but then FSX got stuck..Following a hunch, I changed the AA setting in nvidia properties from override to enhance and bingo, FSX worked again.Strange, but that was it... 163.71 drivers.

Can motherboards with two pci-16 take two video cards to use four monitors similar to TripleHead2Go? Does this cause undue duress on the cpu?

I have AffinityMask=14 entered in my FSX.cfg. I thought that would make the quad disbursement to be 1,2,3 for FSX and 0 for the rest of the applications. However, when I run FSX, I see all cores are assigned to FSX. I have to change the affinity manually. Is there anything else I should do to have FSX boot up with the correct affinity? Thanks.Abe

I currently have three monitors on a matrox TH2GO/nvidia 8800 GTX sli running FSX on Vista 64. After playing with everything, tuning, installing addons, etc with success, I decided it was time to add my fourth monitor to use as a GPS display. I disabled SLI and I have successful added the 4th monitor to the windows desktop. It works fine. In FSX I get a black screen on the fourth monitor and anything I move to the 4th monitor does not show up. I have tried full screen and windowed, docked and undocked. Is this supported by FSX and Nvidia?I also played around with Maxivista and considered Project Megenta. But not sure that is the direction I would like to go.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 on a separate drive. For the most part, I like it, specially for the fact that it does recognize all of the 4 Gigs of ram I have. I did change the look of it as close as can be to XP pro.The thing that irks me most is SECURITY. Even logged in as ADMINISTRATOR, there are some tasks that are either DENIED completely, or have to be modified somewhat. I did disable UAC for whatever it's worth, but it does not seem to cover everything.Does anybody have any tricks up their sleeve that would make VISTA TAMER?Appreciate any help.Thanks.Abe

Okay, for some time I've preferred using my joystick for flying over my CH yoke because control was more precise. My yoke is an abomination for elevator control because it gets stuck so small movements are impossible and it doesn't return to neutral. However, I prefer the other controls on the yoke over the joystick. I have tried lubricating the shaft with silicone spray as recommended somewhere with no luck. Finally, I decided to void the warranty and take it apart. What worked, besides some fine sanding the rear portion of the shaft and the sleeve for aileron control, was to remove the rear plastic bushing and replace it with some felt weatherstripping. Now I can …

I'm looking at uprading and I see most of you are using duo core instead of quad core.My computer guy thinks quad gives you more for your money.I showed him Geofa's specs in fsx forum and he wondered why not use 2.4 quad instaed of 2.66 duo.I just told him you guys were the experts and I would post the question. Thanks,Ron

I was about to upgrade to an 8800GT and Core Duo 6850,but there have been so many complaints about the 8800 GT that I'm now dubious. At 84 I have no skills whatever in handling video card problems: I need reliability. I imagine that the 7950 GT has been going long enough for problems to be sorted? Hopefully it would give me enough performance improvement to be worthwhile? If so, what would be the best driver? Any advice would be much appreciated. AMD 4000+Geforce 6800 GT2 gig RAM

Hi,I installed the MSI NX8800GT together with the 169.02 drivers, but have no AA in FS9 (probably the same is true for AF)Also installed NHancer 2.3.22 (latest version) but still no luck.I knew there were possible issues with GF88xx series and FS9 but most of you have solved these problems.Any advise?EDITNever mind, got it working now after having read these instructions:In nHancer:1. Find the MS Flight Simulator 2004 entry.2. Press duplicate (this disables the original)3. Remove the new duplicate. (this stops the "AA:EnhanceOnly" issue)4. Create a new from scratch profile, point it to FS9.exe and make your settings.AA should work after doing this

Could someone recommend a decent sound card For FSX using Vista 64? I am presently using onboard sound (Abit AW9D-MAX) MB. Hearing high level of sound using default AC while sitting at KIAH Gate d-10, until going to spot view and then back to 2d cockput view, when FSX initializes with no engines running. The volume of sound is relative to specific location (Airport and where A/C is parked).ThanksWilbertAbit AW9D-MaxThermaltake W0106 700W PSUIntel QX6700 QuadcoreVista Ultimate 644x1G Ballistix Tracer (PC2 8500)2x150GB SATA WD Raptor - Non Raid2x320GB SATA WD SE16 - Non Raid2x IDE Light-On DVDRW 165H65BFG 8800GTX OC2 768MB 626MHz Core Clock - nvidia 163.753x SILENX 120X25MM…
