Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum

Hi All, I just purchased FSX Gold Edition and I am using Windows 8. After reading some of the advice on here, I installed it and generally it works OK. However, I have had problems with it crashing every so often (the screen freezes and eventually it just says that the program is not responding). I have done some testing and I'm 99% sure now that this only happens when flying while the computer is connected to the broadband internet. I just wondered if anyone knows of a fix for this? (Other than disconnecting the internet before opening FSX which is what I am doing at the moment). Thanks! Rowan

Hello! This is my first post on the avsim forums and unfortunately it has to be a CTD! I have been using FSX for over a year now with very few problems, I have various addons such as Airbus X, Several Aerosoft and flyTampa sceneries and quite a few freeware sceneries. I also have the saitek throttle quadrant and Logitech extreme 3D Joystick, so as you can see I have invested quite a lot of money into flightsim. So, the problem first started about a week ago when I flew from Gatwick to Frankfurt and back in the Airbus X, when I was back at Gatwick I set up for another flight up to Edinburgh and took off. Hello folks, I've been having this annoying problem within my FSX. Over a period of time, it would stop responding. At first I thought it was due to having it working backstage while browsing the web or else. I would click the FSX tab and nothing would happen, only the sound and a black screen. I knew about the OOM problems, but in several cases, my memory usage was at most 1,7gb for FSX, so that wouldn't apply. Also uiautomationcore.dll was installed in the proper version for my W7x64. Affinity mask for a six-core also applyed in the fsx.cfg (which I deleted to reset the tweaks, now I have 3 or 4 of them there). I knew that FSX would not respond anymore when …

I will keep this as short as possible. Running fsx on a windows 8 platform with a windows 7 compatibility setting. Was working ok until I added megascenery los vegas... is when the trouble began. I uninstalled the scenery package and my sim has not been the same since. Now when I try to run the sim, it just gives me error msgs. I tried with the advice of a fellow simmer to add uiautomationcore.dll.but this did not work either. My windows is a 64 bit os but the sim is a 32 bit program. Anyone with a working knowledge of countering this issue is most welcome to help!

Hi. I am having problems with my FSX not responding. It will boot to the start screen and then hang. When I go into task manager it says not responding. I have uninstalled the sim and reinstalled but with no success. Anyone have same or similar problems? :( regards Steve

The other day I was researching about why FSX will crash to desktop after varying lengths of flight time and I came across a thread about a Windows update that was found to cause this problem. I looked in the update records of my computer and found that I had this update, but, foolishly, I didn't remove it at that time. Now, I can't find the thread (even using the search function), to get the update number. I have had several CTD's after 30 minutes or sometimes even longer of flight. Not related to the menu crashes others had. When I get this crash, I can "alt/enter" and get the window back, but the window is black. Sometimes, I can then do "alt" again and get the men…

I went and added the MissingTextureAlert=1 MissingLibraryAlert=1 and the ShowTriggers=1 to my FSX.CFG file and now half of my sceneries show missing textures or missing library objects. I only use payware and am quite surprised how many had errors. I guess I will have to try and reinstall each one. The FSDT sceneries were good but FB, latinvfr taxi2gate tropicalsim and sunskyjet all have missing items but some missing textures are actually in the folder but FSX could not load them for some reason. Maybe when I make changes in afcad it messes it up....But in the end does this really contribute to why I might be have FSX lockups or CTD ? I have a 64 bit windows and never …

I have done a search but couldn't quite understand fully. Why does FSX run out of memory after long flights? What is it loading into the memory that causes it to overload? Are things in the memory not removed from the memory once they're used and no longer needed? That would surely be far more efficient. I admit I don't have a huge understanding of these things, it just seems like such a widespread issue from something that surely offers no benefit.

Hi, I recently have bought FSX and installed it on my computer for the first few days I was doing flights in the Cessna which went fine not one crash to report, then when I started a flight in the 737 it went all down hill I can't even Fly anything anymore. My FSX normally crashes when I click 'FLY NOW' I've tried the menus UICORE File which did not work but i know that's only for menus, sometimes the game even crashed before its loaded. I am running no addons at all. Hi Folks! First off I admit to knowledge of aviation but only minimal functional knowledge of computers, so please excuse me if I ask foolish questions! I have modest equipment: 4 Core - 2.66 Ghz ea, 4 GB Ram and 1 GB Nvidia video card, only use a single monitor, and I fly offline historic weather usually. VISTA 64 is my OS. I have had FSX SP2 since it came out and use only complex commercial aircraft but default FSX scenery. Though admitedly NGX taxed my FPS more than any other of my livery, even it still has workable frame rates (15-20) and never (since NGX SP1 that is) experienced OOM or lockups. Had a wonderful couple of days with FSX, no problems whatsoever, then I installed FSCopilot and FSInn, and both worked wonderfully! I used to connect to VATISM, get realistic clearance, depart, and once radar contact was terminated, I'd disconnect from AVSIM and use the PMDG T7's time acceleration feature to reach my destination. Problems arose yesterday when the program would CTD right after time acceleration would ramp down from 8x (this requires a reload). I tried to install some EarthSimulation scenery earlier and decided that I'd rather not risk the 4,000,000gb of space it was going to take up and run so I cancelled it half way through. FSX gold wants to CTDT if i click on anything, or choose a non default plane, or try to add weather or change views or look at the map, etc. my specs are i-5, 16G ram, 120G ssd, 1TB storage drive, amd radeon 7950 3GB. i have tried adding the dll, i have tried removing it. no effect. what else can i do? i have considered getting another ssd and put window 7 on it but would rather make windows 8.1 work if possible. anyone? please?

every 5 mins into flight it crashes saying windows is closing the program. any help. brand new pc. just unboexed it today thanks

It happens after loading the default Cessna while in the sim. It happens whatever I choose and the only way I can change is to restart FSX. Any help or advise please?

Hi, I am experiencing CTD's, without a reason or notification afterwards: I tested. 1 flight with simcheck A300 1 flight with PMDG 777 2 different airplanes, same result. As soon as I leave Paris airspace, thus the SID BUBL1E, and flying to waypoint LUVAL, FSX suddenly CTD's (every time at the same waypoint), without a report or something. So I rule out OOM issue or .dll. I have the UIAutomationcore.dll. Does anybody know perhaps the reason, could the flightplan be corrupt and cause this. I am worried about the rest of the game. Hi guys, Normally, I can find an answer prior to posting a topic, however, this one is stumping me. I have Windows 8.1 x64 with updated (one shy of latest) NVIDIA drivers for my GTX 670 and 8GB of RAM. I can't seem to be able to get through a whole flight. I get about an hour or so in and the sim freezes and silently closes (no exception, no crash message, no event viewer log, nothing). I was flying the NGX both times and running Squawkbox externally (all internal modules removed from the dll.xml) - only running the Addon Manager (bglmanx) and FSUIPC4 (and of course, the NGX modules). Any suggestions on debugging?

Hi folks - Hoping some of the local CTD gurus have some ideas as to what's causing this one. It happens relatively infrequently (maybe 1 out of every 3 flights). I've done some research (googling and searching here), but I can't figure out the source. Problem with a .NET install? Simconnect? Every once in a while I get a crash of FSX, the error message refers to g3d.dll (or something like that) and then an error box comes up saying "This feature rquires that {smartassembly} is available on this computer."I'm trying to figure out what is causing it - I haven't been able to directly reproduce it and it only happens once every 5-10 hours or something. It doesn't seem to matter what aircraft I'm using so it's not that (was using Carenado Caravan) wasn't flying online so not that.What I do use every flight is Activesky Enhanced and Ultimate Traffic 2, along with the Saitek Autopilot panel software. I have not been able to find the answer to this so maybe somebody here will know. This seems to happen most frequently with the PMDG 737. I get a BEX error about 15 minutes into flying. I saw there was a way to fix this by disabling something but of course FSX can't be run that way so that fix obviously didn't work. Any idea how I can fix this? I am running Win 7. Also in a unrelated topic whenever I try and fly out KTPA- Fly tampa scenery it says IGNORE in the airport location. I am receiving an error when moving my aircraft from one point on the map to another using the map. The audio gets real quiet and affect other programs like Team Speak. I am CTD when using an ACMI program that automatically moves my aircraft to last known position. I know the first thing you may think is its the ACMI. This is being looked at in another forum. So please don't rule out any other possibilities because I am still seeing an issue when it is not running.
