Hey All,Beginner painter here. Dano has me straightened out on file issues (for now). :) I took some time at lunch to study texture files of aircraft in my aircraft directory of FS in relationship to the finished planes. I see there are a wide variety (different pieces of plane in different files) of texture files that endup being on the plane. It appears to me that FS must "sort of" cut out the pieces of texture being used and put them on the plane where needed when your looking at it. Looking at the files in the texture folders it is not always clear where the edge of a wing or fuselage or tail or an elevator is and so painting them I assume needs to cover enough area (…

I've been optimizing the textures on my AI aircraft--DXT3 w/mips for models that support dynamic shine alphas, DXT1 w/mips for models that don't support shine--and I note that some night textures have alphas as well. Is there really any point to including alphas with night textures? Or would it be just as well to make them DXT1 also?Thanks.-- Walt

I often repaint liveries for PSS payware aircraft and have been disappointed with the textures rendered in FS9. It was clear that DXTBmp just wasn't giving me the quality that I wanted. This escalated when I did a silver Jetstar A320 and the grey-silver gradients washed out. (Sure hope the silver trend among new liveries passes fast.) Getting desperate, I perused this forum, then Martin's MWGraphics forum where I got a clue.I was using DXTBmp to save into DXT3 24-bit with an alpha, which is fine for AI aircraft repaints but not for the aircraft you fly. When I saved into Extended 32 bit 888-8 format, my aircraft in FS9 looked much, much more like it did in PSP. File sizes…

I was wondering about the panel lines and rivets. Can you make them more reflective then the sorrounding texture with the Alpha. I think this may be the best way to show the panel lines as they aren't so much a shadow only but an added surface. From a dynamic standpoint you would add a reflection layer or alpha and then add on the increased alpha for the panel lines and rivets if that correct?Ronson2kNo doubt about it...Ronson2k

I am trying to remove the reflectiveness of a FS2004 aircraft. The aircraft is way too reflective, I want to remove ALL reflectiveness from the aircraft. Is there a way to do this without working with the .MDL file? I've tried messing with the Alpha channel from one extreme to the other and the aircraft went from it's normal state (with the whitest alpha) to looking like it was made out of highly polished chrome (with the blackest alpha). Any info would be greatly appreciated. ThanksJC

What are the advantages of other applications similar to MS ImageTool?I've used ImageTool to convert textures from 32-bit to DXT format with mipmaps OK and it's free and is included with the GMax Gamepack SDK.

Howdy,I've been searching for an answer regarding this topic, and so far have been unsuccessful. I'm not a very experienced aircraft repainter, so please forgive me for my ignorance!I fly for Virtual Frontier Airlines in the PSS A319. I love the airplane, and have been flying it on a regular basis since it came out for FS2002. But, Frontier's logo changed on the fuselage from "The Spirit of the West" to "A Whole Different Animal." But, unfortunately all the Frontier repaints available for PSS still say the old moto. I would love to modify them in order to get the correct visual.I have JASC Paint Shop Pro 7, JASC Paint Shop Pro 9 (trial version), and Adobe Photoshop Elemen…

I am currently repainting the Wings of Power B-17F and am experiencing the following problem with the texture I am experimenting with. The default file is a 24 bit bmp. it functions in the sim without any problems. I can load it into paint and save it as a 24 bit bmp and it still works well. However, when I attempt to alter the bmp in any way, specifically by repainting it, and attempt to save it as a 24 bit bmp file. it will not load when the aircraft is selected in FS9. The texture is rendered as blank. The fusilage (for which the specific texture is intended) is white. Before one addresses the issue,...yes, I saved the texture under its correct file name in its proper …

I am trying to do a repaint on an older fs2002 aircraft that uses the *_LL.bmp, *_LM.bmp for night textures. I have done the daytime textures but cannot remember how to create the night textures. Does this require the use of a more advanced paint program or can it be done using free tools available(DXT, imagetool, etc.)Thanks

I have been playing & learning with textures & night lighting to get the a/c night lighting like I want it (cabin & tail lights on when landing lights aren't). I did this before successfully a number of times, but I don't remember how I did this;I can get the tail & cabin lights to turn on with the cockpit lighting, but the fuselage wash from the landing lights comes on too. How, or can I get the fuselage wash to come on with the landing lights and not with the cabin & tail lights?Rick

Hello,I wanted to get some input from the group about which techniques you have found to give you the best results in creating curved lines and textures on your repaints. I'm currently using PSP7 and the Bezier line to get the curved area. I'm thinking there must be a better way as I see many great repaints out there with some involved curved textures. Thanks in advance for any input.Dave Hwww.EagleExpressVA.com

I am using a PAI paint kit for the Boeing 737-600. The aircraft comes with normal and non-DTX3 textures. I am using the non-DTX3 textures. I repainted the aircraft textures alright and then put the alpah, alpha lighting and night lighting as well as the aicraft textures in a folder named texture.de, and then edited the aircraft.cfg file the texture+ to say =de. When I tired to use the aircraft, all I got was the grey reflective model of the plane with no textures. HOW DO I MAKE IT WORK?!?!?(note:the textures were edited with Macromedia Fireworks 4 and then converted into DTX3 files and I am using FS9)Thanks.

Hi,I have been working on a texture for an Airbus A310Freighter for Turkish Cargo, but encountered some problems when loading in FS !All the textures are working except the one for the back of the fuselage (with the registration etc).. there it only gives a blank fuselage. This one is created and modified the same as the others who all seem to work perfectly ! Pehaps anyone has an idea why only this one bmp isn't working correctly..Any suggestions or questions to explain more about it are welcome !!All the best,Mark RemmelE-mail: [email protected]
