I was wondering if I should have posted this under the first post under this section pertaining to beginners, but that posting looked like it hadnt been'touched' in awhile. Just curious, I have been playing flightsim since the 5.0 days but have never done textures. Starting to now. I wouldnt ude paintshop that much except making some planes here and there. I found some older versions on ebay, does it really matter on versions with the corel paintshop? Just dont wanna buy the wrong thing. Thanks.Andrew

Hi,Last moths we see the arrival of several repaints for FSX default planes.All textures are saved as dds file and due to that fact the quality op the paintwork is quiet poor.Saving files for FS9 a DXT3 always gives a far less quality than saving them to 32 bit.DXT3 reduces the amount of colors to 256 wich ruins the paintwork especially when this paintwork exists of many different colors and gradiants.Saving files to DDS gives an even worse result.Last days I did some experimenting with replacing the dds file for the fuse by a 32Bit texturefile wich works perfectly.The texture and its alpha have to be turned upside down FSX reads the DDS files upside down and the 32Bit fi…

Hi....this is my first posting here and I wanted to pick the brains of the experts.....:-)In painting aircraft for FS2004, I just wondered if anyone had a good 'Recipe' for a good Silver doped effect for the fabric surfaces of older aircraft such as the Tiger Moth for example.At the moment just a grey colour seems to be all that I have seen but most of these look what they are....just grey.. and too light a shade makes the aircraft look almost white.... I was thinking that possibly someone on here may have a more realistic option especially as so many light aircraft particularly from the 'Golden Era' all had Silver doped fabric flying surfaces at least.Alternatively is th…

Hi everyone,I need a little help. I am starting a new VA and i would like to repaint the default aircraft in FSX.I can take the default textures and I can open them in photoshop. but there are no layers so i am always painting over windows and rivets, etc.Is there somewhere i can get a layered paintkit to use for fsx or is there any way to make what i have layered so im not painting over the background only.thanks!

Hello!I downloaded a paintkit from PSS, the A320, but the file is one large file size 1024x2048... does this mean that I have to actually cut the file into two pieces? Since the original file is 1024x1024.Anyone who has repainted some PSS before, please need any tips. Thank you in advance!

Is there any way that I can see whether a texture file has been saved with MIPS or NO MIPS? The programme DXTBMP allows you to select whether you wnat to save the file either way - but how do you tell if a file has in fact been saved with MIPS.THanks for any adviceBarry

I'd like to announce a new painting project of mine.Project Pan Am is my objective to paint the entire known Pan Am 747 fleet, every registration number, and every Clipper title and livery they served Pan Am under. I've figured it will encompass upwards of 120+ variants (as many of Pan Am's 747 flew under several names and a few versions of the livery throughout their careers). I'm a brand new - and only very occasional - repainter. I've had some success after reading everything I could get my eyeballs on, but I'm stumped on this one.I thought I'd have a go at the Dreamwings Dash-8. The thing that has me stumped is that the fuselage texture has no windows in it, yet they show up anyway in FS9. Other textures I've fooled around with have the windows as part of the textures, and if you painted over them they'd disappear. What's the deal with this one?

Hello, I was wondering about a few things related to bump mapping. Can they be applied to any aircraft in FSX, how do I make one, and how do I apply one to a texture? If they can't be used with any aircraft, does anyone know if they can be used with the POSKY 747V4?

Have the Wilco Airbus and have d/l'd textures for it, several by the same person. All are great, but on 2, I noticed a problem.One was the A319 Northwest paint. The large nwa on the fuselage should be black, but on my a/c, it was shiny/chrome-like. The same went for the US Airways - Arizona Cardinals repaint (the cardinal's face was shiny). Something made me try and untick the aircraft reflection box in FS, and a/c were ok now. From doing some reading here, I'll assume this has something to do with the Alpha channel. This person's other repaints were not like this, and on these only the areas I mentioned were affected. I would like to fix these myself. I have DXTbmp. Coul…

I'm trying to repaint the Eaglesoft CJ1 for FSX, and am having problems when it comes to displaying the texture in FS (see pic). I've copied one of the paints that came with the plane (texture.5) and replaced the escj1_fuse_t.dds with my own.The texture was created in Paintshop Pro, using Eaglesoft's paint kit, inverted and loaded into DTXBMP, along with the alpha. I've saved as DDS DXT5, DDS DXT3, with and without mips, but no difference.I also tried loading the original texture (having made a backup ) into DXTBMP and saving it, and the same happens! Gday allHave been having a little trouble with the FSD forum, so thought I would drop in and ask a quick question.Regarding the 337 paint kit - On the Fuse2 and Wing textures there is a "Base" layer included, while this layer is absent in the Fuse1 texture. I was wondering whether anyone had experience with including the "Base" layer when constructing the repaint; I noticethat on the default paints it appears not to have been, whereas on some repaints it appears to have been included, giving the wings in particular a darker, grey appearance.
