I run a dual boot, XP/98SE system, and will be upgrading from my venerable Voodoo 5 to an ATI 9600XT, so I have just two questions:First, any issues running FU3 and the ATI card I might want to know about?Second, is anyone running FU3 under Windows XP successfully? I am currently using 98SE for it and several other games. Thanks in advance for the answers, sorry if they sound a little "rookie." It's just that I've been running 98SE for games for so long and with success, but it's time to think about moving away from 98SE as video drivers will soon no longer support it.And I don't want to give up FU3...Dan

  2. Just for fun, here is a pretty good webcam in the seattle area. Now you can check the weather and generate something suitable in FU3 before you set offhttp://www.skimountaineer.com/WebCam/WebCam.htmlAnd here's one for San Francisco (has a nice bit of weather info too)http://www.ocscsailing.com/resource/ocsc_clubcams.htmlAnd here's a site where you can listen in to live ATC! Also has lots of airport webcams including some in FU3http://www.militaryairshows.co.uk/live.htmGraeme

It's novice FLED time again guys!My moving objects don't move. They do in FLED but not when I go into FU3.e.g. I have placed one of Jon's Twin Otters so it taxi's past the park spot at Rio Vista. This it dutifully does in FLED. But in the game it just sits there.I have selected 'start automatically'. I have also tried unchecking that and having 'start when ANY object within 500 meters.I have read many times that FLED is frustrating and now I believe it!Graeme

Hi Folks,I've just uploaded the Twin Otter FLED models to the library so you can spruce-up your FU3. Use them as static models, or attach a sound to them and use as moving models ;)At CVA. The one in the foreground is the new flyable 'skydiver' model.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61392.jpgThere's a readme in the zip and a set of high-rez base textures for those who want to do their own liveries!BTW, here's a preview of the new AI in action - bleedin' idiot nearly took my wing off :-eekhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61395.jpg:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

I just parked one of Jon's Twin Otters at Ranger Creek. While I was at it I moved a few trees away from the runway and went flying. I'm having serious problems at this airfield with most aircraft. This one didn't work at all:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61689.jpgSeriously, even the Cessna is a handful here. If I take off towards the south it's very exciting to check whether I'll be able to clear the hills. It's easier to taxi down the runway, turn around and take off towards the north. Landings are quite tricky from either direction. What kind of aircraft does this strip serve in real life? Also, what kind of aircraft do you guys manage to take to and from Ranger Cree…

Hi guys, this is my first post to this forum. I have been browsing the threads for a few days, and thought I'd submit my first post.I have been involved with flight simulation since 1983, first at Rediffusion, and most recently with Boeing - with a lot of stops in between. Back in 1997 I was approached by American Airlines to build a flight simulator exhibit for their C.R. Smith Museum near DFW airport in Texas. In 1998 I delivered a Beech Sundowner fuselage converted into a simulator, and using FU2 as the simulation. Later I upgraded the simulator to FU3. I have a webpage describing the simulator at http://www.habu2.net/crsmith/cr_smith.htmI have been asked by the mus…

Many of you will know of the (ahh, friendly) rivalry between the glidernut gliding school and my own. You can't go to an airport nowadays without seeing one of his hangars around the place, and although my gliding school is not quite as developed (consisting at this point of only one badly-damaged hangar, no gliders and no pilots), it is certainly a Force for the Future. And many of you will know that glidernut recently placed a T-Rex in my hangar. Quite deliberately. So I applied to my insurance company for damages. And I just wanted to explain why I'm changing insurance companies. This is my record of the conversation.I was met at the claims front counter by a brisk, eff…

Stuck on a 3D modeling problem for a while now I decided to try my hand at some texturing (as an alternative to throwing my PC out the window). Of course FU3 does support 24 bit colours nor can raytrace nor do I have an artistic bone in my body it is fun to see what you can do playing with textures. To be continued...;Cheers, QvdG

I have always been annoyed that the AI planes do not use the section of runway 30L at San Jose International that is short of the displaced threshold. This originally prevented any 747 or 777 airliners from operating here. I made a small modification a while ago that added a new section of taxiway at the northern end of the runway (taxiway Mike). This enabled me to extend the runway slightly, and it was enough to allow 777 airliners to land here.My previous attempts to make the AI planes use the FULL runway length resulted in annoying "node assertion error" messages, which always made FLED crash. I encountered the same problems when I attempted to delete the overrun light…

Hello, I have the following questions which I couldn't find answers to anywhere: 1) With the latest patch installed, I still hear the sound of splashing water after becoming airborne from a water takeoff when flying the renegade. The sound goes away though, if I taxi from water onto land. Is this normal? 2) I would like to raise the head position in the virtual cockpit of the renegade. From what I found by searching through this forum, I would need to modify the 3d model and to look for a "white book" which explains how to do this. Can anyone tell me where I might find this white book or how I can modify the head position in the virtual cockpit (I am aware of the he…

Ok, assuming that we could find the required terrain maps....at the required high resolution....and add the required colour palette...and the necessary high resolution terrain mesh (nobody said this was going to be easy :-)), I decided to have a poke around in the California section of the airport listings at www.airnav.com. The current SanFran regional area in FU3 extends (very roughly) from 37 to 38.5 degrees north, and 121.5 to 123 degrees west. I listed the airports that I would like to (theoretically) develop if the region was extended to 39 degrees north, and 120.5 degrees east. Actually, I would also like to see it extended WEST to 123.8 degrees west. Now, before yo…

do not just complain about missing source of fu3, but do something :-)There is a way how you can convert AI planes into static models in a easy way.1. start Gideon's ResViewer2. open the file models.res3. select the plane you want, take the models with wheels down. file 498 is the Trainer.4. export the model, choose convert and give as name trainer0.bin5. start Gideon's ModelViewer and load this new file trainer0.bin6. you will see now error messages due to missing texture mip files TRAI234.mip. TRAI235.mip, TRAI236.mip, TRAI237.mip write down the name of the missing filesnow you can see a white model of the Trainer7. back to ResViewer, we search now the missing mip file…
