I noticed something unusual about the Runway 32R approach lighting at Moffett Federal last night. The sequence lighting was strobing in the wrong direction, and it was also exceedingly short :-eek I also discovered that the terrain has a discrete step in it a short distance from the runway threshold (about halfway along the overrun lighting). This created problems when I tried to realign all three sets of lights. Therefore, I decided to chop the overrun lighting in half. This removed the lights that were sitting on the slightly higher section of terrain (those furthest away from the runway). I then aligned the remaining sets of lights, and added proper sequence lighting. …

Hi all, have again problems with the taxi and runway lines when approaching a private airfield.:-madIt has lines when I start, but not when I approach from an other airfield. Also shift F11 does not help. I flew the original Trainer so no topic with contactpoint of the wheels. It shows only after touchdown. With the beaver even not that. How can I handle this or is it still a bug from FU3? Any cfg entry? Thanks for thinking about.SincerelyTFT

Hi all,I've found this site:http://simscreens.net/It's nice, has many nice screenshots from all kinds of sims - BUT it doesn't have FU3 shots! This is irritating! ;-)Maybe someone should show them that FU3's graphics are far better than FS98's? ;)Cristian

Here's a black taxi. I tried to curve the sides more to make it realistic and the dimensions are based on accurate specs for a London taxi. But the textures came from several models, all combined. Here's one parked outside my holiday house down at Half Moon Bay. Sorry about the red bus - its tourists you know, turn up at all hours.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/46048.jpgDrive carefully, don't scratch the paint.RobD.

Dear All,These files are for those of you that wanted a copy of my configuration file and the weather file used during my recent screenshots. I have fiddled with a lot of things and some slower PCs may run a tad slow without reducing terrain detail level from '999' to '103', and maybe a few other 'softeners'.To use:- Unzip these files to a temporary folder.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/45731.ziphttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/45733.zip- Make a backup copy of your flt3.cfg file.- Copy this cfg file into your flight3 folder.- Copy the .wsd file to your flight3weather folder- Have fun.* Turn the 'Haze' slider up a bit for nice sunsets and sunrises.* If you have other…

I have FU III but can't figure out how to get thermals.I load the very hot weather (100F) and cruise around but can't find any thermals even over built up areas which should give some thermals.I have set the wind accuracy to maximum and ridge lift works like a dream. How do I create weather that will give me thermals? How can I create my own custom weather? The weather dialog in FUIII only allows me to change the winds after or winds before. What about the temperature etc?Maybe I just don't know how to use the interface but the manual that came with FUIII hardly says anything about creating weather.ThanksPaul

  9. This is just a quick post to provide some useful information regarding the use of my Seattle 2004 pack with outer terrain scenery installed. It seems that FU3 includes the "extra airports" in the total number of airport icons for the Seattle region, even if they are not visible on the map. Therefore, anyone who does not use these "extra airports" (and who is having problems getting FU3 to run with Seattle 2004 installed) might like to know that removing them from the FLIGHT3/REGIONS/SEATTLE/AIRPORTS folder will very likely solve the problem. Two users of my Seattle 2004 pack who were having problems getting FU3 to run have used this method successfully. You don't even need …

I want to offer both Peter & Jimmi a major thanks for their thoughtful looks at these 2 simulators. My personal opinions.FlightGearInteresting that this comes so close on the extensive discussion of that sim we had in the chat just 2 days ago. I will continue to keep an eye on this one but my sim time is limited by work time. I think this one will have to mature some before I'll give it some of my precious sim time. Thanks again Peter... very good discussion! :)X-PlaneI always keep an eye on X-Plane. Jimmi those screenshots sure look a lot better than what I had (have but not installed) in 5.3 or 5.4... what ever version I was up to. I guess I hold a bit of a grudge be…

I receieved X-Plane 7 in the mail some time ago.Upon starting it for the first time, it crashed right back to the desktop. My first thought was "Hey, this is just like Flight Unlimited III!" :-lolThe sim appears very touchy with regards to addon scenery. I even had to manually delete some 3d objects from so called "complete" scenery packages (the Socal and Destination Florida scenries in particular). Just like FU3...It appears the I'm about the only one having those problem, though. Guess the sim hates me...or my computer.Anyway, after some tweaking and messing with the scenery files, I got the thing up and running.I got to feel the famous flight model in action. Feels ki…

Wanna improve your horizons? Simply? No files to download or install, if you can type 3 numbers, it's easy! Some of you may have seen this already. I posted some info about it in another thread recently but I was concerned that there may be some bad side-effect. Since then, a number of people have checked it out with no problems so here it is! I'll warn you first - there is a slight framerate drop. That said, even if you have a slower PC, try it anyway, just to see what you've been missing ;)To do it, open you find the line in your 'flt3.cfg' file: opt_terrain_detail xxx (where xxx is a number between 0 and 103)Change it to:opt_terrain_detail 999A couple of notes:1. When y…

This is a replacement comprehensive database for the San Fran region, and contains latest models from Hans Petter, Andy, Jon and Agtim - thanks to you all for your invaluable contributions in keeping this sim flying. Installation instructions are included in the ZIP distribution file, but simply it is delete your existing regionsSanFranGEN folder and replace it with the GEN folder in the ZIP. I would appreciate any early reports of problems. It runs well on my machine but if there are mistakes I would like to fix them and resubmit a corrected version quickly. Conversely, any reports that it works will be warmly received! The database is also suitable for the UK-South regi…

I finally got around to installing Switzerland. I put it as a region in my UK South sim and this one has no Seattle or SanFran folder and no outer terrain. I was aware of the CD path and the fact that some folders were empty and I put the respective Seattle files into the region wherever I spotted a zero kb file. A long time ago Glidernut posted this:Sum of the files in your REGIONS Switzerland Folder are emty. You have to fill them with the same datea that you fined inyour REGIONS SEATTLE files. For an example you'll see a file called "Aimodel.dat"if you open it it will be empty. then go to "seattle "and copy it and put it in "switzerland". so on and so forth for the rest.…

Did ever this thought come to mind? Well, a few weeks ago I presented a workshop during an international conference. I had to entertain 30 delegates in two sessions of 3 hours each on the principles of confocal laser microscopy. This was done during a very bad spell of an infectious laryngitis. By Friday afternoon 17:00 I had no voice left...However, after a week of antibiotics and all other muti the doc could throw at me, I can now actually type this without drifting into the drugged haziness clutter of noise in my brain. To cut the proverbial long story short. I had as an aid in my quest with croaky voice not to bore people of fame, a good data projector for my MS Power …
