Dear All,To those wanting yet another view of Ranger, have a look at these:I know they're small but they give a great idea of the place - from the ground this time ;)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74578.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74579.jpgIf gliding's your thing, read this interesting article on wave soaring around Mt Rainier by Vitek Siroky (Blanik America President and very helpful chap - we wouldn't have the Blanik L-13 in such fine form if not for him). Hi,Renaming the Outer Terrain outtaga.tag, outtagb.tag, outtagc.tag(located in x:Program FilesFlight3OUTTERR) to geotiles.tag; and using Agtims Geo Tiles Viwer 2.5, I seem to be able to view and extract the classification and terrain elevation. Problem is I cannot find a flight3 outer terrain nav map that has a tile naming grid applied to it so as I can go directly to a location. I see Agtim has one for the hi-res. Anyone know if one exists. How would one go about creating his own? Right now all I'm able to do is randomly extract tiles and it's impossible to tell what part of the terrain they are for.Attached are a sample of land class and terrain elevation from outtagC b…

Recently I installed FU3 with v2.0 patch but I can't get it to run properly. With 3D acceleration turned on game usually freezes at loading screen after I press FLY button. It usually stops when MODEL CACHE or AI TRAFFIC are loading. With acceleration turned off it starts well but then freezes soon (?10 minutes) after take-off. I have nvidia geforce4 440mx graphic adapter with latest nvidia drivers running.Any suggestions?

I decided to play with Mustangs at Ranger Creek. The Dago isn't really meant for bush flying but it was worth a try.Dago at Ranger:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74253.jpgNotice the parked Twin Otter, the new windsock "platform" and a few more distant trees. They're all by courtesy of Jon Point. Then I landed. I thought the speed was right but I couldn't make the aircraft stop in time. I kept rolling, dodged a few trees and settled way south of the runway. Anyway, I could walk away from this one:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74254.jpgThen I tried the standard Mustang:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/74255.jpgI flew north, turned southbound and came in as low and…

Dear All,Time to clear some old projects from the desk! I have been working on these for a while (in between aircraft and birds) and thought it was about time to release them. So, what are they?1. New 'ntrees' for Seattle AND Sanfran. These upgrades will replace all existing trees - both the original LGS ones and packages. Looks 400% better (IMHO!). Separate downloads for each region.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/73688.jpg2. New FBOs! To replace the existing LGS FBO1, 4 & 6. After all these years, I was getting rather tired of the old ones! Better looking, withh night lighting too. For both Seattle and Sanfran.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/73689.jpg3. Multip…

There have been plenty of queries about the UKS scenery, but many people have experienced problems getting a working version. I think this is partly because the design team put in lots of changes very quickly without checking each change. Doesn't matter, by some chance, my own version of UKS works perfectly, but so far I can't seem to transfer a working version to other people. I have just tried again, and sent a current working version to Jon and I am hoping that he can help, giving him a complete installation on a hard disk that he loaned to me. He is then able to burn a copy for others. In case this doesn't work, I have made a copy of the important bits of the install…

With Andy's agreement, Luton is ready for upload. I have made two versions, one for fast computers, one for slow, based on the post of a few days ago. The visual difference is not too obvious, but the framerate doubles. Given time and continuing interest in the forum, I hope to redo all of the earlier airports using this method, and this should result in big framerate improvements. I will upload as soon as I hear that a stable UKS is ready for release.RobD.

Hi all, I'd like to say I feel immensely privileged by our friend Quentin van de Geer, who has been kind enough to send me a copy of his still-in-progress DH82 Tiger Moth for FU3.I know he's hesitant to post screenshots since he considers it to be in a very early unfinished state, but I simply couldn't resist showing you all some views of this beauty. I'm fairly confident that he won't mind:-)In addition, I sincerely hope this will encourage our panel guru, Steve Hess, to go on and eventually finish the promising panel he let us preview some time ago (Steve, are you reading?):-wavehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72494.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/72495.jpghtt…

Here are the Flight3 co-ordinates to generate Rimrock Lake. Things yet to do:Needed next is to figure out the co-ords for the lakes' rivers(above Tieton Dam and the west end of the lake) and Clear Lake. Also try and find photos of Tieton Dam and try and make a flight3 model of it. There is also a camp ground on the southern shores of Clear Lake, Tieton runway, and town of Rimrock(town is on hwy 12).Does Flight3 already have tents, campers models?flt.cfg:;Rimrock Lake ;generate_outer_megatiles 121.10106 121.22651 46.62058 46.65594Rules.txt://Rimrock Lake//////////////////// TYPE MIN ALT MAX ALT MIN LONG MAX LONG MIN LAT MAX LATRULE w 0 2…

  15. I read an "open letter" from the editor of a well known UK PC gaming magazine on another forum yesterday. He was interested to hear from anyone who had written articles for internet sites, or simply had interesting stories to tell regarding gaming exploits. Permission was given to freely distribute this, so I copied and pasted the text to another gaming forum that I regularly visit. Interestingly, I mentioned that I had written two articles regarding the Flight Unlimited series for PC Pilot magazine.....and one of the responses was from a member of the staff at this particular magazine (PC Gamer). He stated that "this Flight Unlimited stuff sounds interesting", and asked …

My apology for posting a test. Although I have HTML use enabled, seems to me I've lost the function of e.g. bold and so on. This happened in another post of mine on AVSIM. I had to reinstall the whole Windows XP system, due to whatever unknown incidence caused my PC to fail to boot... So please pardon this post as this is the only safe forum on AVSIM I feel free to do such a thing! This is to check whether it's an AVSIM script error or on my side... :-)Pieter

A models conversion program! Agtim, this is superb! (But your post doesn't allow replies (at least on my computer) so I couldn't reply directly!!).I think your little programs are amazing, and this new program for converting Flight Simulator to Flight Unlimited models is another great breakthrough! You have had some amazing successes recently - the UK scenery, the IOW packages, the terrain editors, the category editor, package viewers, model viewers, static plane models, Switzerland, (and I've probably missed a lot here) - don't you ever slow down? You and Jon seem to be driving the show single-handed at present.RobD.:-jumpy

It has been a while since I played FU3 and I lost the winter/fall palettes (for snow in Seattle during winter). Can someone post them here attached to a message? They are no longer available from the old forum posts. Also, maybe they should be uploaded to the file library?

Hello friends of Flight Unlimited,Recently, I got a Saitek X45 Digital Joystick + Throttle and experienced some trouble setting up all the analog controls for FU3. I wonder if someone could help me to figure out the missing bits of information to set up this device properly.I know that FU3 accepts analog inputs for the following controls:- joy_device (roll & pitch)- rudder_device- toe_brake_device (left & right)- throttle_device- prop_pitch_device- mixture_deviceSo far, I have identified the following X45 assignments for the various analog controls:1-1 Roll Control1-2 Pitch Control1-3 Throttle Control1-4 Rotary Analog Control 2 (the upper one)1-5 ?1-6 …

The interest in a full blown chat on a regular schedule has been going down of late. As of now we will have no more automatic chat every 6 weeks. If interest increases I may reconsider this in the future. You can arrange a chat with your friends any time you like... the rooms are there for your use.If you want to schedule a larger chat I will be happy to pin your announcement. I will try to attend such events if my schedule permits. If you wish to post the transcript in the library you can do so. (Remember to turn on logging in mIRC.) I would like it if you would submit such transcripts to Bob or me for review first before posting them to the library but that is a request …

Many moons ago I did some initial trials on framerates using McChord airforce base. The main result was a conclusion that number of polygons determined framerates, and that number of objects was not as important. The big airports in the UKS scenery generally have over 1000 objects per package, with some simple objects (such as Jon's trees), a few complex objects (such as Jon's tractor, agtim's planes) and the majority of middling complexity. The big airports all suffer from framerate problems on my computer. I have done a few more tests over the past week trying to find ways to improve framerates. Here are some results (all conducted at Luton in perfect weather, low haze, S…
