Hi!Decided it was about time I started to do some work on FU3, and what better place to start than RAF (now sadly RMB) Chivenor where I flew for over 20 years as an Air Cadet gliding/motor gliding instructor. However, a lot of Chiv is a bit wet - try taxying down runway 10, you sink about half way along! So first job was to remove the water.Used Agtim's Geotilesviewer and found that the whole area looks like it is covered in small lakes. I also found it impossible to place Chivenor with any accuracy. The coastline in the tile is only approximately similar to the map. So changed a fairly large area to green land (a long job - I was using Serif Photoplus and it does not hav…

Dear All,I've had a couple of emails about what I'm up to so I thought I'd answer them all here!New FBOs - These are done, I'm just testing the install a couple of times first. My first effort caused a CTD because my night and day models somehow had different polygon counts :-(Half Moon Bay - About 70% done. The marina needs more work yet. This will definitely be a package requiring use of FLED before installation! LGS weren't too careful about placing boats there - most are off-line with the marina and there's a plethora of tiny sailboats in the harbour. They're so small, you only see them when you hit them!ASW28 - I've slowed down on this due to some frigglies with the …

I am new to the forum. I am a licensed pilot, but now retired and can't afford the cost of a new plane. I used to fly FU 1 and FU 2, but my current XP machine doesn't seem to work with them. I plan to reinstate an old machine just for FU 1 and 2, but I am also considering finding a copy of FU 3 especially if it will work on XP and if it flies reasonably realistically. I was very happy with FU 1 and a little disappointed in FU 2, because the flying was not quite as realistic as FU 1.I would like to get your opinions of the realism of FU 3 and if it will run on an XP machine. In general I spend most of my flying time on simulators shooting landings and doing acrobatic…

Hi Allan,I've just bought an 80gb hard drive and now have the space for both fs and fu3. So I've been installing fu3 since yesterday and have hit a problem. I've installed the game as per the instructions. I copied your folder with the extra planes, then I copied the folders you sent me for seattle and sanfran into their respective folders, then I copied the packages folder over into the fu3 main folder. Job done! Except that when I try to fly from Oswald field I'm way off the west coast of Sanfran in the drink!!! All your addon's are there from the circling GA's to the wee guys and their trucks. It's just that they are all sitting on the sea and when I go there m…

I recall from the old days of FU2 that slipstream effects, but also torque, were considerably more effective than in fu3.In fu3 most of the aircraft, standard or add-on, show praticaly no yaw tendency during takeoff and initial climb, and rudder, unless a crosswind is present, is normaly not required, something that is, IMHO, one of he major limitations/absences in fu3 FM.The Mooney is a good example of this. The real aircraft (and also the model in fu3) has a rudder trim position for takeoff & initial climb, but Mooney pilots still have to add right rudder to counter the slipstream effect during takeoff. In fu3, even if we enable (as I allways do...) torque, this eff…

Hi,I've made a cabin model and thought I'd convert for Flight3 use. Am using Robs informative Model2.html. Still, I have questions about the .e format. I've already converted the textures to .gif (v87a) using PSP and converted to seattle models pallet with Robs FixMip.exe. Texture dimensions are 256x256, 128x128,etc. I still have to convert the gif's to mip.I get the following error when trying to convert cabin10.3ds to .bin. Am I susposed to replace the 153,153,102 with a 100? If so, should I do this for all the material lines? It states it's expecting a material name. Isn't logs10.gif the material name? If not, what could it be? Where did "frontcolor" in line 1 come fr…

Blocked Fuel Lines then Engine FlameoutsHadn't flown this challenge since installing the new hard drive and Flight Unlimited. Was flying Hennies challenge, Olympia to Bremerton, weather file 28 "Mild Afternoon". Had blocked fuel lines immediately after take-off; re-started engines. Got about 9 miles out trying to get turned around to land back at Olympia, and engines flamed out again, this time my fuel quantity was "0" (tanks were full before taxi), and restart attempts were unsuccessful. Called mayday and was told nearest airport was 7 miles out. That was Aero Plaza (Hoskins Field). I barely made it to 25. Gears still up to limit drag. I ran out of lift just short, drop…

Hi all This is my first time so please be gentle with me! :-shy I had some help from Chris Lowe recently and he suggested I should join you. I have been reading the various 'postings'and feel a bit out of my depth with the great work you are doing on upgrading FU3.I look forward to seeing the DH82 Tiger Moth sometime as I have flown in ACDC. Although it was only a 40min flight it was unforgettable. The main reason for me coming on line was to ask how you get the screen shots from FU3. I read in the read me/manual that Ctr+Alt+Pcaptured the screen & Ctr+Alt+Q printed it but I can't get this to work. Thanks in anticipation of your assitance.Aub

I was looking at the Just Planes' World Air Routes DVDs figuring that they could be good study material for my sim time in September... wanted to get one or two that showed 737-300s and/or 747-400s. I ended up ordering six of the things.Has anybody seen any of there videos or DVDs? Are they any good?

Hi,I just uploaded this. So will be a bit before available for download.Hopefully it will be an aide to anyone wanting to upgrade the outer terrain classification, and elevation detail. If/when I can get the other outtag(a)(:(.tag mapped, they can also be useful for getting orientated applying improved or photo textures using dirtymac's outer terrain editor tool(his tool allows for direct application of terrain textures to the outer terrain .gtl files).File is in .xls so you'll need MS-Excel or Sun Microsystems freeware OpenOffice.org(formerly Star Office) available here its 64mb: http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/4/4/4-4-4.shtmlA shot of one of the tabs. Heads up gang,In my e-mail box today I got some returned 'spoofed' mailswith both one of my e-mail addresses and Chris Low'se-mail address in the header. Now, I'm not pointing a finger here at anyone in particular, butmy guess is the only person likely to have both of those addresses on their system is also likely to frequent this here forum. You need to be checking for the 'Win32.Netsky.P@mm' virus, and a remover can be downloaded from herehttp://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.htmlThere's lots of variants to this one :-(Thanks:-wavePete

Past being a WWII baby/todler, I always took a fancy in WWII aircraft. I will not shine the search light on my favourite as it is not possible to pick one from so many. To be honest, one reason I bought FU3 was also for the P51. However, back to the Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Company (NAMC). The YS11 was the only Japanese airliner to enter production since the 1940s, read some about it in brief at:http://www.aerosite.net/ys11.htmAlthough FU has the P51, I think the engine model (as most FU aircraft) lacks the realism of those fighters (and I shudder to think what things were done in many other simulators). I was always on the prowl for some simulation that really gives …

When I had all of my scenery packages installed in FU3 using my old PC, I encountered a problem just after take-off or landing at Alameda NAS or Crissy Army Airfield in the SanFran region, and also at McChord AFB in the Seattle region. The screen graphics would "freeze" for up to TEN seconds, due to the large amount of objects present. This was rather annoying, and it forced me to remove some scenery packages from both regions (Golden Gate Park and several other packages in the SanFran region, and several airfield packages in the Seattle region that were close to McChord AFB).However, I have just discovered that this "freeze" has been reduced to barely ONE second on my ne…

Hi,Flying Hennies BaronXp fun challenge. Refer to screen shot. I can't see all the text. When the challenge starts I'm external(F5) view which is good. I make sure it will be starting with F5 view because I intentionally end flights with that view. But when the challenges scripts start, it puts me in F3 view which causes the dash board to block the text. There any way I can control this? Edit his script.text in the challenge maybe? Prefer F5, but F1 or F2 might be ok to.You all take care,JimBhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75411.jpg

Objects in MSFS are built from planes having 2 triangles. Transform is moving the plane to the right position. So you can build hangars, towers, houses ...in a quick way. Without transform statement, the part is centered.http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/BGL2E.JPGhttp://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/bgl2e_1.zipThis are the first results using bgl2e http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/SAMPLES.JPG :-wave agtim

Sorry I haven't been around much of late... I have been fighting an vast array of viruses... continue to fight them actually. :-( Normal everyday viruses aren't much trouble but these "adware" deals are really hard to get rid of. A Norton scan just tells me to beware of these guys and will not purge them. I'm getting to where I'm almost afraid to get on the net. :-eek

Does anyone else have problems with "sliding" planes when moving from the parking spot ? This doesn't happen everywhere, but it seems to have become more severe since I started using FU3 on my new PC. When I apply power to start moving, the plane slides left and right, rather than moving smoothly in a straight line. It is extremely annoying, and if anyone knows a solution then I would be very happy to hear it !Chris Low.

HiIt's been a while...I've been a dedicated Flight Unlimited fan for ages, right back to FU1 when I've made my first international internet friend when we raved about the small square of real scenery and true to life aerobatics... :-jumpy However, I must confess that I've spent lately more time with FSugg9 than good for my health. Like the signature said I that read somewhere: "There is a thin line between a hobby and sanity".Now after that ellaborate introduction, back to the aim of this post. FS has spoiled me tremendously with its virtual cockpits. The feel of being in an aircraft cannot be better an experience simulated that way. I know, I know, many people rather hat…
