I like to put a few pics on the forum from time to time. Here's some recent ones (and if you're on a slow connection, the warning in the heading will help you avoid! Why won't this beautful new plane move?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166626.jpgAhhh, got it ...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166627.jpgTakeoff from Old Sarum in this magnificent glider:Note, I haven't added a runway here because of a quirk of the real runway - it is domed (not doomed, just domed) so that from one end you can't see planes starting to take off from the other. Near the ramp (beyond the grass) is the little control tower, witht he windsock mounted to the back of it (as per real one). htt…

Hi guys,I've always wanted to learn ifr on a simulator so thought I'd give the lessons a look. Apart from not being too impressed with the instructor :-lol (I mean he says he's doing one thing but he's obviously not!!) they don't really provide enough information about the instruments and how to use them or provide enough detail about the various heights and stuff you need to know to get in safely. Any simple and shallow learning curve stuff out there that would ease me in to it?Thanks,Duke

Dear All,I'm sitting here and can't believe my eyes. After postulating last night that we merely had to create maps and put them in, Bruce (the Great, Almighty, Lord of Alstonville and Keeper of the Crusty Banana) suggested some tricks and...To those of you that don't realise, UKS has NO night lighting, apart from models. Now we've found a way ('coz I wanted to edit old lights) and can create what we want, where we want (give or take 16 metres). The results certainly lit up MY life :-lolLand's End during the day:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166075.jpgAnd here at night! http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/166076.jpgPlease ignore the placement - these maps are merely …

The new UKS has been posted on Christian Sorensen's site:http://lundbykrat.com/FU3/FU3.htmand is a massive download (over 250 Mb). This contains the new terrain from agtim (modified slightly for bumps and classification), models database, new packages, airspace definitions, David Reeve's voices, Ansgar's models, my current config file, all sound files needed etc.But you must have a working version of FU3-UKS to start with. No terrain maps are provided. The installation is simple - I recommend1. Install FU3-UKS (not available on AVSIM).2. Backup.3. Delete packages and regionUK-southairports to make sure number of icons if within limits.3. Overwrite with downloaded files.4.…

Hi Folks :-waveWould any Seattle region users like to help me find rogue night lighting? There is a lot of it in stupid places - like taxiways and beaches (PAE). It should really represent buildings and streetlights, not open fields, either (Harvey, Asplund etc.) :-rollIf you see some that you don't like or you think shouldn't be there, let me know which airport and roughly where they are (post on this thread). It doesn't matter if you think they're obvious, I'd still like to know ;) I will include all of the modified N2 tiles in a single upload. By then, the fabulous Bruce (all great Australians are called "Bruce") may have worked out how to regenerate the N3-7 tiles ;) …

I have had a number of emails from people about the FU3 UKS 2007 update, which you can get from here: http://lundbykrat.com/FU3/FU3.htmI have found that for the upgrade to work, it is important to do a preparation step first. So from an existing stable version of the UKS region, do the following:1) Make a backup copy2) Delete all files in the following directories:The step is simple: you need to delete all files in the following directories:PACKAGESouterrAIRPORTS (leave sea and sfo if you want to - I have tested and this works and gives a link to the other regions!).regionsUK-SouthAIRPORTSregionsUK-SouthGENThis is necessary because of icon limits in FU3 and because new ver…

Hi All,I was wondering how many people had tried flattening airport areas in the new Seattle terrain? According to the Avsim library, 77 keen folk have downloaded Agtim's new Seattle terrain. That means that 76 others downloaded it and I'd bet that some of you may have tried it out and one or two may have tried flattening airports. Judging by the overwhelming (cough, cough) response to my previous postings, nobody's doing it. Maybe I'm wrong, or I'm the ONLY person out there enjoying the new terrain :-rollhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/164554.jpgSo far, I've done some areas and added 2 new destinations* (if you're not afraid of water...):Easton StateKachess LakeForest…

Hi,After a long lay off I've returned to FU3. I've downloaded a few packages of airstrips and was wondering if someone can tell me how I find them to fly from? I had thought that they would show up on the map, but I've only got the default ones showing. Anyone help me track my add on ones. I've put in Oswald field (an old favourite) but can't find it anywhere.Cheers,Duke

Ok, I've done some digging in sky.res and have decoded most of the sky textures which resviewer can't, which obviously means I can now change them. Before I embark on such a project, I'd like some feedback as to what anomalies there are in the FU3 weather (some which I know of but some which I might not), and what else in the weather system (in terms of textures) you like or do not like.I don't intend to replace all of the textures, just elements of them to make the sky better, or at least different.I will be using some of my textures from the FS2000/2002 and X-Plane cloud addons for this, and developing some new ones to suit the purpose. So, any suggestions or ideas ?Regar…

Most of you will probably know about the problems I've had with the Buckhingham palace victory fountain - that the wrong polygons show and it deforms badly as you fly over it as the different surfaces show in the wrong order. I've tried a bunch of things: - redid the whole fountain from scratch - used a different version of BSP - used BSP switchesStill nothing has worked. I wonder if its my graphics card. Is anyone else seeing the same problem? Anyone got a solution?I suspect the problem is that because I've put a polygon at zero height as a base for the fountain, FU3 thinks I'm trying to make a runway! It looks OK from a distance, but up close is a disaster. This problem …

To locate CTDs or just to see what happens during the start and quick flight selection inside FU3 use FileMon from www.sysinternals.com you can see each file activity with location and read offset. So you can learn which files are opened in which sequence, how models are loaded. This can help in debugging FU3 bugs. You can see which tiles are loaded, which part of resources - ones you know the offset and length of the read operation it's easy to locate it with ResViewer then you know which part it is. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/FileMonStart.jpgThis is the settings at start, click on OK and then start FU3 http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/FileMonRep.jpgafter CTD or end o…

Dear members,I'm introducing myself a little bit, i was a regular simmer of FU2 when i was younger and was very interested in FU3 when it was announced.Unfortunately the game wasn't distributed here in france AFAIK and i could not buy it internationnaly at this time.Well now i have it and was very pleased to go again for what made then strenght of the FU series like the very good FMs, highly detailed area and little details that seems not important but are for me like the runways and taxiways that follow the elevation of the terrain or the great ATC...Well i discovered also FLED and here's the purpose of my post.Basically since i flew in simulations i wanted to create an …

What a revealation. I've been working my way up the FS line these last 4 years until finally giving up with FSX (way to slow). Last month I experimentally got out my old FUIII, and wow, I'd forgot how immersive it is. Ok the graphics aren't up to FSX but it all works in real time, which FSX is never going to. Anyway I shall use it for practice as I'm now up to 20hrs on my PPL(JAR) and it seems much more GA orientated then FSX. The only thing I'd like that isn't in my FUIII is the ability to use UK airports. I'm learning at Thruxton and I could do with that area as I need to practice the circuit (In particular, overhead joins). How can I get hold of the UK scenery pack so…

Folks ;-)Needing a break from bulldozing landscapes (!) and waiting for more feedback from testers, I did a floatplane version tonight!Haven't fully sorted the flight model yet (it still crashes and sinks..) but I'll get there - it IS my first floatie :-roll I gather now that there mustn't be ANY contact points that touch the water...And no, it isn't amphibious - but dont worry, I'll upload both types and paint sets are compatible (i.e. the paint sets carry BOTH wheel and float textures). The rudders don't turn (blame BSP.exe) but they do retract, jess' like the real ones ;-)Anyway, whilst you're admiring the tank-sized floats (they ARE to scale and weigh 600lbs each - no…

WOW!I wasn't expecting such a quick response. Thanks to all for their input.So far, the list goes like this. I have included the (possible) FU3 base aircraft for each:Modern (jets)-----------------------Concorde - 747/BeechjetVC10 - 747/Beechjet737-800 - 747/Beechjet717 - 747/BeechjetThe reason for both 747/Beechjets is to include 4 engines in some and the extra instruments as well.Modern (props)-----------------------C-130 - 747A400 - 747Twin Otter - Baron/Kingair/Dash-8Pilatus (Porter?) - Mooney (speedbrakes etc) or TrainerSaab 340 - Baron/Kingair/Dash-8Again, 747 for engines/instruments.Classics-----------------------PBY - Baron/DC3F-86 - Beechjet with one engine.P-38 …
