I was given a copy of the SoldOut Software release of Flight Unlimited III the other day, so it prompted me to chuck out the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro which has been driving me nuts since the day I got it (as did its replacement) and get a decent joystick (Saitek Cyborg Evo Force).FU3 is great considering its age, but I think the SoldOut Software release is terrible... no keyboard quick reference, no airport maps (I presume there were some with the original version?), and a next-to-useless manual. If it wasn't for this site I'd have been completely lost. I've got the airport map guide, updated scenery, trees, etc. installed now. Thanks for the excellent resources!Just a fe…

Following up on pastorpilot's post, I would really like to know if anyone is currently using FU3 with Windows Vista. I will be adding a review of FU3 to my website in the near future, and I would like to know if there are any compatibility problems with Microsoft's new OS.Christopher Low.

Greetings, My new machine will have Vista Ult. Has any one had any issues running under Vista, I should know about? As per a previous post here, I am planning to just transfer my FU-3 folder to the new machine without re-install. I remember (years ago) there was some issue with N-vidia cards, and seems like there was a patch, or something. The new machine has an NVida 8800GTX. The old one has a 5500 series NVidia card. So I'm assuming that if it works with that card, it should work with the new one. Does that sound right? Thanks,Steve

This may be old news to a lot of us but here's a tip. I decided to put a copy of my Seattle/SanFran FU3 installation on my father's computer. I'll be using it when I visit and he might even take to simming once he sees what it's all about. However, rather than going through the whole installation process and then adding addons, tweaks and packages I just burned the whole thing on a data DVD. Then I pasted the whole thing into a folder with the exact same path as the original. It works as intended. This approach does not put anything in the registry but FU3 does not require that. All it takes is a shortcut to the main exe on the desktop. There may be issues with different v…

Hi all,In a moment of madness *:-* last weekend I decided to build myself a set of pedals. So.. armed with an old Saitek two axis joystick, some pieces of timber, tools, a cool drink, and my wife looking on and shaking her head slowly from side to side as they do at times, I set to work and ended up with a construction which is IMHO not too bad. Pedals pivot, not slide, but that's OK. I figured the extra effort to make them slide was just not worth it.I connected my contraption up to a second game port and got FU to recognise it OK after a bit of research. Then, being on a bit of a roll (in a manner of speaking) I said to myself, "Myself, why don't you add some toe brakes?…

Hi all,Question: IF (notice the stress on IF) it were possible to revisit Gideon's amazing cockpit builder and add new features, what kind of things would we like added?I don't know what is possible at this stage, but some feedback would be good.Cheers,Bruce H

In have been poking around north of Port Angeles ,Flew to Victoria and Vancouver to see if airports existed or flat ground to put one on .Vancouver would be great but That little Island is not flat .I found a nice flat spot for Victoria Intl airport .It's about 6 degrees south of the real location (48.38.48N)(123.25.33W).I placed the three 150 '(should be 200') wide runways in place and tested ok.I will probably put taxiways and lights when I get time .Will have to lay a lot of concrete. That whole area is good for more Ferry Routes too.CaptRolo

Hi all,I have now been flying around seattle, sanfran as well england and wales (shame no scotland:-) ) for a while now and gaining proficiency at flying the simulator and making landings instead of my usual smash into ground style. I am very happy with such a great game and super addons made by all you guys.I have a question. In the UKS version the AI traffic control still speaks as if it is in the seattle/sanfrn version. That i dont mind but all the airport options etc that come up on select vectors direct to.... are also in the seattle version. How do i know which airport say seatac international is in the uk version i think its heathrow. Can someone direct me to a list…

... and if not exactly well at least recovering...First off I have to say I'm sorry I haven't been following any forums for the past few months. My sciatica took a turn for the worse in November and I have not had the level of concentration needed to run any sim... driving or flying. I'll get back to it but it may be a while yet.I hadn't heard from FlyBert (Bob Stiles) since May or June so I was very surprised this afternoon when he called me. I had been afraid that he had dropped off of the map entirely and we would never hear from him again. He has apparently been in 8 different hospitals and / or nursing homes since that last contact and he is in one now.Apparently his…

I've just acquired my first LCD monitor, a Dell UltraSharp 24" wide screen. Native res is 1920x1200.I haven't run FU3 in ages and thought I'd try it again (my last attempt a couple years ago resulted in some weird sound problems). This time the sound is fine, but the image is stretched horizontally to fill the wide screen no matter how I set the monitor driver resolution. That is, when I set FU3 to run at 1024x768 and my monitor the same, it fills the screen anyway.Any suggestions?--Carl

Hi there, it's been a while since I was on here. Must be 3 or 4 years now. Mostly due to my joystick dieing and then one of my FU3 cd's being severely scratched. But I've got a new joystick and new copies of FU3 and FU2 :) so I can get back into it.Anyway, hi to anyone who remembers me.Time to download some new everything for my (still) favourite sim and contact someone about aquiring UK.All the best,Ben

Finally I took some time to look at all the nice enhancements for FUIII that I downloaded the last years. Take for instance the scenery enhancements packages of Christopher Low and others; Seattle 2005 and SanFran 2006++. I haven't explored the latter, but in one of the read me Chris expressed his disappointment that so few report back some discoveries in his enhanced world. Well Chris, thank you very very much, I cannot imaging the enormous effort it must have take you and others to figure out and realize all the additions. The FU world looks quite a bit more interesting, especially with the enhance AI traffic keeping you company. For a non-flltime simmer it is however har…

Hopping around (in CL Seattle05) I saw the peculiar signs KOOB EULB TCEJOR at Gray AFBTaxiing to the other side it appeared that the letter P is missing and probably also the unidentified flying object, allthough the antenna park behind looks like a UFO imprint.Erik E.

I am running Flight Unlimited III in Windows XP and it looks terrible, I know that's not how it should look, since I had Flight Unlimited II running under Windows 98 awhile back and it looked pretty good, so obviously some aspect of XP or some drivers or DLL files are degrading Flight Unlimited Graphic quality, any ideas for fixes folks, [ nb my Graphics on my computer otherwise are fine in that eg FS9 looks superb on it ]. I tried various resolutions and running Flight unlimited under Windows XP Windows 98 emulation but they did not improve the graphics. Best and Warm RegardsAdrian Wainer

I figured I would try to add some nightlights by creating a 2D model that showed during the night but not during the day. In other words, a rectangle with a transparent day texture and light spots once it switches to the night model. It works. However, I don't know what the frame rate consequences would be with a really large one.I've been trying for some time to attach a small zip with the pertinent BINs and MIPs but it won't go through. In any event, daytime transparency and nighttime light spots did the trick.Hans Petter

One of the recent emails was about Thruxton airport (from giklesrdturner, Giles). Over the weekend I tried to put together a rough package for this, based on (rather limited) information on the web.So far:Made and added asphalt and grass runways, added trees.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165182.jpgAdded ramp and some hangars (thanks agtim, Jon).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165183.jpgMade distinctive semi-circle hangars.Made and added control tower.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165184.jpgAdded Thruxton racing circuit/taxiways (using existing bits - I'll redo this as custom if enough interest).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165185.jpgLocal tourist trap:h…
