Hi,Running FSX. Like to place trees in my scenery. But how do I do that precisely ? Red the tutorial, but it gives no details on how to install it or where I should place the Annotator and the needed files. If I want to place trees in my scenery area... must I connect to FSX or use an air photo (screenshot). What about the location (Lat/Lon). Found nothing. Please give me some guidance.Greetz. Jos

While awaiting some input from the pros on this forum, I located a PPT presentation on ARINC codes. It shows an excellent visual representation of the different types of legs. I converted to a PDF file, and am attaching here. Hope this might help others who struggle with this issue.

Hi Folks, first of all, I have to say that I am a bloody beginner in creating scenery for myself. The question: Is there any program that decompiles BGL files into .apt format, so that I can open them in FSSC? BGLAnalyze only decompiles them into SCASM format. Could anyone help please?mixen82

Well, after skulking around this forum for quite sometime, I decided to take a crack at adding waypoints/approaches to a couple of airports I frequent that have no IFR approaches. I have some experience with panel mods and AFCAD, but no other design. After downloading recommended software, reading the manuals, and cracking a few AP******.BGL's to see how they were written, I think I have a handle on the basics. But a couple of questions:1. Any idea why BGLanalyze is unable to write a complete XML? It decompiles, but before the end of the XML is reached, I read an error writing the page. BGLXML 1.8 works fine.2. Comment, it's too bad the genius Lee Swordy can't find som…

Hello,Since the SDK for FS9 is apparently incomplete, I need to pick a few brains. I'm having trouble creating timezone BGLs for FS9. I was able to create FSX time zone scenery using the FSX SDK. Likewise, I was able to create FS98/2000/2002 time zone scenery using the SCASM compilier. However, when it comes to FS9, I have not been able to effectively make time zone scenery. I've searched the internet high and low for information on the subject and came across these 3rd-party BGL compiliers to name a few:BGLC_9 (which has no included documentation. I assume the documentation to use is that of the FS2002 BGLC's SDK since BGLC_9 predates the FS9 SDK.)SCASM (which seems to b…

I just used Turbo Squid to create a simple object. and I also selected a color to paint this object with.It is saved as dont.gmaxSo, now how do I convert this to a format that I can use as FSX Scenery object. I would think, I need to convert this to a bgl format as well as get a bmp texture out of this too.Any ideas?MannyAll right I found this in the SDK Help filegmaxIn order for gmax to work correctly with the scripts and tools of this SDK, go through the following steps:Ensure that .NET Framework Version 2.0 is installed. If not, install it from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en Install gmax by visiting http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax a…

I have noticed that apart from all the veg_*.dds files contained in the Scenery/Global/Texture directory, the FS9 legacy treesFA/SP/SW/SU/WI/HW.bmp still exist in the FSX/texture directory.Does anyone know when, if at all, these latter Trees*.bmp are used by the FSX sim, as opposed to those dds files contained in the Global/Texture directory. The reason that I ask, is that I find the trees in general to be too dark for the base textures and that they do not blend in too well. I was thinking of adjusting Lightness & Saturation, and also to aplly blur to them too, which I think might give a more natural look to them while flying. However, there are alot of the veg_*.dd…

I would like to get a clean copy of FSX World/Textures from the FSX DVD. I know that I can change the name of world/textures to have the FSX repair function load a new copy. However, the repair function appears to not be controllable. That is, it will also make other changes it feels are necessary using unknown (to me ) criteria. Since I have other file modifications in FSX I could loose those changes. Other than making a complete copy of my current FSX, is there a way to extract specific folders or files from the DVDRegards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke

I am trying to combine several photorealistic sceneries - a large one with a relatively low resolution and a scenery with higher resolution that covers an area which is considerably smaller.Preferrably, the smaller, but more detailed scenery will be on top of the larger one. But unfortunately, the less detailed, but larger scenery overrules the other scenery that has a higher resolution. Is therey any way to assign priority to the smaller scenery? This is my first posting and I solemnly swear that I did search the web before posting this question.Best regardsHolger

Hi everyboy fist congratulations for your fantastic forums and helping for the newbies like me ;)let's go with my problem...I try to develope one narrow area of land rounded by water with salt mines, close to LELC airport on Spain. I think it, for FS2004 and I use the SDK terrain for developing the textures, no seasonal variation. all the process work fine...But the problem appears when I edit the image for make the water masking.(0 for water and 255 for land on alpha) When I overfly the area close, no problem and the texture is showed fine, but a certain distance the texture change and some extrange portion of land is show. The problem not happend if no alpha channel is …

I'd like to place an irregular patch of dirt in FSX and have it blend into the existing background. I have the texture created in Photoshop complete with the blending that I want, but what format does this need to be in for FSX? Also, what is the best way to place it?Thanks,Jeff C.CFI, 2L

Microsoft spent a considerable amount of money acquiring and and integrating excellent landclass tiles. At 1 meter resolution they are actually outstanding. However, the display of these tiles seems to create less than desirable elements. The picture shows an example at the Sitka, Alaska airport where squares are inserted for some unknown reason and are a visual distraction. Also, the boundary interface from tile to tile is, in some cases a stark straight line which is also visually odd. This is in contrast to the very nice blending within the tile.I am sure this has been gone over before but I am wondering, with the maturity of FSX, has someone developed a strategy to mi…

This is an odd one...First - If I select "Create and Flight" and specify my airport but select "Active Runway" I spawn in the middle (more or less) of the airport and not on a runway. Yes I have start points, yes they work if I expressly select them, as do the parking spots.Second - right next to the airport is a dry lake bed. when every thing is loaded it's A-ok. However, sometimes things can take a long time to load on my comp - in this case the area that's supposed to be dry is CLEARLY water... When this is the case, I have a VERY rough terrain mesh and the textures are totally blured out. Frankly it looks like the textures loaded at this point are the same one's yo…

I've recently started learning how to create scenery for Flight Simulator X. I've started by working on small projects in Oklahoma like adding the Blue Ridge Wind Farm (the largest wind generator farm in Oklahoma; located North West of Lawton), fixing the landclass for cities, and enhancing some of the more prominent airports. What I'm wanting to do is create enough of these scenery files and include them all in one release. I've already created a few, but since I'm new to this I don't know if I'll be able to tackle some of the larger airports like Will Rogers World (Oklahoma City) or Tulsa International.I'm looking to see if anyone wants to help out with this project by c…

Hi there,i've been landing there about once a week in the past three months. Today (Jan.26 2008, 10:45 GMT) i noticed a big firework over the old fortress wich definitely wasn't there before. I could not find any informations if there is a certain holiday or whatever today in Corfu, so i am a little confused, what these fireworks mean. Regrettably i was unable to contact the developers of the scenery 'cause the email-adress provided with the file bounces. So does anyone here know what it's about these fireworks???TIAAxelCOC

Hi all!I'm using FSX SDK Annotator Tool to place some buildings in a custom scenery. I set the sliders in the Building Properties window to have only 3-5 floor buildings. But at runtime, FSX shows only 1-2 houses instead of 3-5 apartments. The base area of each building is 350 square meters. If you read the SDK specifications you understand that FSX forces all buildings that have an area of less than 625 square meters or greater than 1600 square meters, to have 1 or 2 floors. The question is: can I modify these limits? Can I obtain a 3-5 building olso with a base area less than 625 square meters?Thank you!AquiP.S.: Excuse me for my bad english.

I need a white ball object for a freeware scenery I am working on.And maybe even a White building with white roof..a simple building that I could use by resizing them. But if someone can whip up a white ball and let me know how I can add it as a library object. Mind you I would be distributing them as part of my freeware scenery with due credit to the author ofcourse! For these kinds of objects.http://www.fas.org/spp/military/program/smc_hist/Kaena.jpgIf you don't have the time to do this...if you can at least guide me in the right direction, I would much appreciate it. I looked at the "Beginner's Guide to Scenery Design" thread. Not sure how much of it is related to the FS…

A few weeks ago I drempt that FSX was able to display the history of the world. This I found one day by changing the date to 1943 and finding my home city (Seattle) was quite different...SeaTac was not there, and the Boeing plant 2 was camoflaged. The autogen cars were vintage for their time. Cool! Then I set the date to 1800, and I crashed immediately. I suspected this was the program barfing over not having airplanes yet. Next I set the date into the future 2108...very cool airplanes and cars in ai. Then I woke up.Next time I fired up FSX..guess what! I had to try it. Sad to say I found no affect of changing the date. I even tried May 18, 1980 to see if Mt St.…

OK folks, I feel like the village idiot. How do you make a building look normal in the daylight and lighted at night? In other words how does one use the ..._lm textures? I am trying to design a terminal that operates 24 hours a day, thus, it should NOT be dark at night. As usual thanx in advance for any assistanceJim

OK.. here is the issue. I am using Instant scenery to build sceneries and place objects. When I fly into an area with a scenery that was developed using Instant Scenery, the FPS obviously drops. but then when I leave that area, I cannot reclaim that FPS.It looks like, the BGLs are effective even when you are not in the vicinity of these objects. How do I limit these scenery objects within a finite Radius?andHow do I reclaim the memory used by these objects once I leave the vicinity? For some reason, these objects are visible from very far. Thats why I can easily run out of Video memory.Manny
