Quick question - how do I determine what the coordinates are for a given LOD8 cell? Not the lat/lon borders, but the MSFS world LOD8 coordinates (on the 786x512 grid of worldwide LOD8 cells). I'm working with custom textures and doing a LOD8 chunk at a time, and I'd like to name them by their LOD8 coordinates....are there any calculators/formulas which can help me figure out if I am in LOD8 cell a,z or b,y ?Thanks for any assistance!(The search of the forums have turned up blanks for me today)-Greg

Hello.I have been playing around with JHW/Albion Scenery's Cardiff Wales (EGFF) for a while now, but am getting in a tangle.The scenery comes with some statics that I do not want, so I deconstructed the BGL using BGLAnalyze. I then went throught the resulting Scasm file and removed all references to the statics. This worked perfectly, however, I have lost the flat taxiways in the process. The Bumpy tool doesn't work, because there are some parts of the scasm file it has problems with (I have contacted the author about this). So that is problem one!I created problem 2 myself, I read that flattening the area might might help with the taxiways, but it didn't work. Unfortunat…

Can anyone help me please?I need a rest from flight simming so I am trying to design some scenery (The Seychelles) and have downloaded the Ground2K programme. I never expected it to be easy so I read the manuals first before having a go. However I seem to be falling at the first hurdle.I am trying to enter the coordinates of my map but keep getting the error message "Points to be verified". I am sure my coordinates are correct but the programme just does not recognise them. Can anyone help please.Colin

In some circumstances Terrascene is an applicable tool. If no color photo exists for an area of interest. If the use of available corrective tools would be too time consuming. If the area is so large that the time to correct and add roads, rivers, lakes, and coastlines is excessive.With Terrascene you can achieve quite an accurate scenery of a large area although it remains synthetic. The roads, rivers, etc. are MORE ACCURATE than FS2002. Married to 38m terrain roads and waterways follow valleys and rarely climb hillsides except where the elevation resolution is just not accurate enough to place a highway close to a cliff. Ground2k can be used to tune those anomolies.The…

All those months I have been telling that we are also working on a VTP tool etc and now we finally have everything running, so I thought it's time to show a little picture :).http://home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen/pics/nl2k_vtp.jpgAs you can see there are still some bugs in it to solve, but basically all the polygons you see here are VTP or LWM (apart from the fields that are landclass). The roads are also VTP (but those have still some small bugs).

I am trying to create some photoreal terrain that overlaps with a shoreline. Currently, my plan is to use Terrabuilder for the photoreal terrain and Ground2K to correct the shoreline.I am worried that that photoreal texture will always overlap any corrected shoreline.Is this true?Thank you very much for your help.

I'm just starting out with Ground2k and had a few questions:I get error messages during "Create BGL" which seem to do with not being able to send a WinXP pathname to BGLC.exe. I didn't have any problem compiling the files manually from a DOS prompt. As I remember, Terrabuilder used to have the same problem under WinXP when it called the MS utilities to compile files. Is there a fix?I'd like to edit the mesh of some islands I'm creating. I used the resample button to move some points up, but I don't see any results in the finished BGL. Am I missing a step?Although the steps for recompiling the Landclass and Waterclass work, I seem to only get a .tmf file at the end. …

Hi all, I have this problem with Airport For Windows bug (I think) :I created airport scenery in Airport For Windows 2.60 Build 160 (AFW). The airport has only one rwy 11-29. Rwy 29 has ILS but only with localizer and DME (not GS) both on frequency 111.550MHz. DME is in touchdown zone, LOCalizer behind rwy. In AFW I checked ' without Glide ' and ' DME at touchdown zone (TDZ) ', but DME didn't work. DME at touchdown zone works only when I enable Glide or (when I disable Glide) when I check ' DME at Localizer ' (but I need DME at touchdown zone). So I tried create DME as an single object in touchdown zone (out of ILS object - here I checked ' No DME '), but DME didn't work…

Hello! Can someone tell me how I go about editing airports? I want to edit my local airport to add more detail and make it as accurate as possible. I will be starting real flight lessons soon and want to use FS2002 to learn procedures when operating in a large airport. Unforturnately, the airport modeled in FS2002 is lacking and I want to polish it up a bit.Is there a program that will allow me to edit the airport in FS2002 or will I have to make one from scratch and then add it into the sim? If there is a tutorial somewhere that would help I would be grateful to know where I could find it. I have seen quite a few utilities in the AVSim library, but I have never done anyt…

Hi,I have a question about the visual impression in FS. I'm wondering why is it not possible to see the runway until 7 miles out ?In real world it would turn up before 10 miles out, which makes it much easier to fly an approach ?Is there anyway to fool the system to get around this flaw ?ThanksMatts Falck

Hi all. I have built a carrier CV-8 Hornet for CFS2. I have been working on trying to get it added to FS2002. I tried the FsRegen method and have run into mixed results. I selected a material color... and then gave landable surface assignmentI cannot take off from it... used AFCAD to set the place and elevation... plane still ends up in water... interestingly enough... if I start off in the air and try to land... the deck is hardened?Anyone have any ideas why this is?

I've just tried to open some files to start adding trees and all I get is a black square when I try to load the bmp into annotator.The scenery works in FS, so what would I have done to my bmp's to make them so that annotator doesn't see them?

Hello!I am working on some funky Flash teaching aids - it seems there is a lot of confusion about basic geographic principles and how they translate to FS World, and I thought that a well-illustrated teaching aid will greatly clear up confusion.The question is: what is the actual geometric shape of Earth in FS (as in, 3D model of it, not the conceptual)? Is it FLAT, and when you fly to the edges, you are transported ("wrapped around") to the other edge, or is it a true SPHERE?I would have to conclude that it is indeed flat, with a true lat-long grid superimposed to it so that it correlates to proper navigation. This would explain why we can't reach north or south poles (…

Now I understand why there has been so much excitement about Ground2K.A big thank you to whoever wrote the "Ground2K_for_beginners.htm" (it has no name attached - and I understand why!) it finally allowed me to get the program running.Also a big thank you to Chris Fumey for a great utility.Geoff

Using the overhead FS2002 view (CTRL-S) is there a way to either discover the NW and SE extents or, given the center, the distance to these corners? I want to use an overhead screen shot in Ground2k to permit modifying the existing elevations of roads. Although a road maybe properly positioned, the mesh/elevations may not have sufficient resolution to prevent the road from climbing a hill in error. Many roads are cut through hills but FS2002 usually reproduces them as going up/down hills instead of relatively level through cuts in hills. With an overhead you could easily, with Ground2k, modify elevations to create proper hillsides and cuts (hopefully). Just need NW & …

Hi, what is the best tool to add taxi line markings on top of an existing (defult) apron?I did them with Gmax, not a lot of succes, given the fact that in order to mantain the resolution I would have to use DTX1 w/alpha textures with very high resolution.Tried with the Taximarkings SDK... no succes, if somebody nows how to do it that way, any help will be appreciated.

You can load an photo as background image in Airport/FSSC/GroundMaker and after that you can use it as a reference to draw your aprons etc.But you can not change the default one (this would give a complete chaos as well, if everybody would start changing default files). So the way to do it is to exclude the default scenery and then make your own to replace it.Arno Member Netherlands 2000 Scenery Team[link:home.wanadoo.nl/arno.gerretsen]Arno's FlightSim World for scenery design hints, tips and other tricks...

I want to place KCKB in it's correct location, it is about 1500 ft to the W/NW from where it should be. What #.BGL's Airpoirt and NavAid or better yet is their a program that will find a BGL one might need. I was planning on disasmbeling it to use within Airport for Windows to correct location of runway and errors in taxiways. Richard;
