Does anyone out there have knowledge on how to attach a 'special effect' (fx_beam.fx) to a rotatable gmax item such as an airport beacon. I realize that FS2004 airports have rotating beacons now, but many of them are far from correct (believe it or not). We have several around here that are simply a couple telephone poles bolted together with the beacon atop. No metal towers.Simply placing a beam that rotates about a given point does not work well because the syncronization gets goofy. Therefore, I am trying to attach the 'beam' to the 'lense' of the beacon. I am open to suggestions (he says after spending two days on it). Thanks,Al

I'm looking after to get one for my casual needs. But I foresee using it to capture building and whatnot photo-textures for scenery creation. I'm presently leaning toward Sony's DSCP32, 3.2 MB. It handles picture sizes from 640x480 to 2048x1536 pixels. For sceneries, I would normaly work with 512x512 texture files. Now, as far as I know, using Paintshop Pro 6, when I try to reduce a 2048x1536 picture (taken on the web) to a 512 pixel width, the resulting picture is degraded in such a way that it wouldn't be worth to use it as a texture. My questions. Is there a way, I am not aware of, to get a reduced picture size by a fair amount, as mentionned above, that would still keep …

Hello all!I use Ken Nelson's utility LWMDraw5 for reworking textures around airport scenery, usually substituting grass in place of trees, etc. Are the small bgl's created and placed (usually in the local scenery folder) also of the type that create the memory leak problem? Any insight on this subject would be very greatly appreciated! :)Best regards,Mark

HiI cant find any info on the program tmfviewer that comes with Ground2K4_v5. As far as I'm informed it's a program to check your compiled sceneryfiles "on the fly". I have tried to "look" at some default bgl-files from the FS2004 scenery, but the prg shows me nothing. Which file-type is this program reading/showing?Best RegardsLars

(yes that's FS2002...)Hello all,for several weeks now I have been trying to make a small (fictitious) ocean island in FS2002, using Ground2k v.4.0. Now I'm finally almost there (I think...), but have a few remaining questions. The island is (by design :-) ) completely contained within one LOD13 area; so, no overlap issues. Here's what I have done so far:[ul][li]created an LWM polygon as "Land", slightly larger than the intended actual island[/li][li]on top of that created the island "base", as a VTP2 poly with shore line, at Level 3 (!).Question: If I use Level 7 (the Gnd2k default for a land poly), I end up with the island being covered with the ocean water texture (althou…

HelloIm new with G2k4 but I have successfully made exclude files with F2k4 to exclude those FS2004 road. I have also sucessfully made LC files to change the ground texture. But, I have tried to add roads and I just cannot make it work.I click on the New Object icon, then click on a point on the map which puts me into the Polygon/Line screen. I select line/lake shore which higlits the lines tab. I select the type of road from the list, width, etc then click ok. I then draw the line where I want my road. I compile but the road never appears in FS2004.Im doing something wrong and need your comments.Tom Jones

Hi,I've got a real problem with my Ground2k airport scenery. The scenery first was compiled with Ground2k V.4 and does not contain any AreaFill in the source data. But I have still many CTDs (Crash to Desktop) while using the GPS.After some weeks I've found out that without the VTP2-Roads everything was working fine. I've created new VTP2-Roads with the latest Ground2k4 V5.32 and got the same problem again (!). When using the GPS, flight simulator crashed.Well, then I just deleted the VTP2-lines and changed every "MaskClassMap" in the terrain.cfg to "0" because someone told me that could cause the problem. But now I've found out a new problem: When I fly the Learjet with G…

I know this may sound dumb and it may have been answered before (when I was ignorantly not paying attention (-:*:-*) with using AFW 2.60 I am not really able to achieve the smooth rounded edges that MS default seems to achieve on their taxiway edge. I have achieved the effect with GMAX but the placement of these polygons are tedious. Any insights into how MS has achieved this? Is it just to do with hand coding and/or making lots of vertices on a polygon?ThanksShez

I'm being lazy!I want to create a merged bmp texture map from side and front views from pix I have taken with my digital camera. Each view is a different cropped pix. I have Paint Shop Pro 7. I know it allows what I want to do but its help system does not allow a keyword search like many programs. If it did I would search for merge, multiple, etc. The help PSP offers is by topic and I can't find it in there. The objective is to have photo realistic textures to apply to Gmax created buildings.I'm sure many of you out there know where to tell me to look in the documentation or the help in PSP. Give me a shortcut if you can. Thanks in advance,Larry CostaPS. I have brought Cr…

Hi, Especially newcomers I suspect that a lot of you have two or even more monitors on your system. If not and if you want to be really effective in Gmax get a second monitor. I run two 17" in 800x600 mode. Anything higher makes a lot of things too small. Gmax can be expanded to use about one and one-half of the two. This allows me to have more Gmax rollouts to use and open other windows like the calculator, FS20004, pix of buildings I want to place on my home airport, etc. I don't know how I would get by with just one monitor using Gmax. I think I will try it just for kicks. There are lots of low-cost video cards out there that will do along with 17" monitors, some ref…

Hi, Happy New Year all!Been monitoring all the posts on the new SDK and playing around with the XML stuff. One strange little thing I've noticed. There are 2 rigs - gen_rig01 and gen_rig02. The second is one of those objects that won't appear but gen_rig01 (GUID 4a5ceec84f2a9e27f12ee7a40f0c856c) works fine.In experiments when I placed it on land, the helipad was landable. However, as soon as I placed it on water it wasn't!Any idea why that should be? Seems to defeat the object a bit:D

Hi Ground2K-specialists!I have an error in my Ground2k4_ver5 program (downloaded here from AVSIM's File Library). When I try to draw a line instead of comming with the properties window for polygons/lines I get an error 339, saying somerthing about a missing file named "TABCTL32.OCX".Does anybody know whats wrong here? Where can I find this file and where do I place it in order to get the Ground2K working properly?(I added a patch to the Ground2k4_v5 called Ground2k4_pachtv5_32)Best regardsLars - DK

Jumbolair is the fly-in community near Ocala, FL, where John Travolta lives. It has a 7500 ft runway, and taxiways from every residence to the runway, so the planes don't have to taxi on the streets. The runway can be found in FS9 by looking up "17FL" or "Greystone" The actual name of the place. If someone could add the streets, taxiways some homes, I think it might be a poplular place to live your virtual life. :)Here's the website that give all the info:http://www.jumbolair.com/

The FS2004 SDK Doc shows a Region Code of K6 in an example. I thought this was the ICAO region code. However, DAFIF APP_C.TXT (attached) doesn't list a K6. According to this, the US is KZ not K6 and Airports begin with KAxx through KYxx in the 48 states.Did M$ make a mistake?Does someone know where this list can be obtained? ICAO has it but the price was $38, too expensive for my freeware project! Thanks,Larry JonesCountry CountryName ICAORegion http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64529.txt

I downloaded this program today and have been unable to figure out how to use it. The help section does not seem to work, and it is a fairly new program which is still being developed. Can someone help me get started? I'm new to scenery modification...Thanks!Robert

Hi to all,I'm newbie with scenery object adding.I installed a not existing bush airport in FS2004 near my real House.I would like to add some airport building, like a little Hangar, and a Small Tower. Starting to read the BGLCOMP content I found in Seattle Tacoma example "name" with a long value to define it.My questions are, since there isn't any explication:wath is "name"?There is a list of those codes or is always the same?If it is a list where is possible to get it?Thanks

I've been experimenting placing vor/ndb objects. The FS2004 sdk shows four different GUID models for ndb's and eight different GUID models for vors. Specifically they are:NDB 2fb72c664727290c20da70b983ee4c98NDBHigh 5a003f364f9768dd6861b3b0859a7763gen_ndb01 4808a0b04d43fc5620867d91fc8c6eb3gen_NDBWater 127ae2844ec325ae72e3cfbca3f57dbfsm_vor 2d95f02a45821b58ead890949e8e2d81SCO_gen_VORsmall2 3893d6944314f5190bfeb6ac3a280d3bSCO_gen_VORsmall2DME c0b537c348ba808acae1ff8e842e871aSCO_gen_VORsmallDME 047814f745fce832044fa0b5b034827fsco_gen_vor03 ffbf01ac44442d331e0e9a86c3f2cd48sco_gen_vor03DME 3a5affe143e95cb6df00d3b5786eb8c3SCO_gen_VORsmall c545a27211d2e2ec1000849c2ae…

The attached post has a lot of information about creating approacheshttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho..._id=17929&page=However, I have one particular problem I haven't been able to solve. If, for example, an ILS approach is selected through the GPS to a particular airport, loaded, and activated, you will find a new waypoint assigned and visible at the end of the approach runway, e.g., RW17. This waypoint does NOT appear on the Map View. This waypoint will not appear on the GPS if the approach is not selected, loaded, and activated. Therefore, I don't believe this waypoint is stored in any of the scenery files. If the waypoint is not stored in any of the sc…

I am a newbie and am trying to create a small island in a single grid for FS9. I followed the recent thread relating to creating an island for FS 2002. I am still creating only the landmask with the shore. The settings for the mask are: General - Poly with Shore, LWM, altitude = 0; Lines - 1032 Y Ocean/Bank/Perennial; Layer 9, Width 20, Land on the right is on, Join ends of line is on (I did not join the ends when I drew the mask); Layer SCASM settings are default (16)LWM - LWM/Poly is set to Land; Altitude is default -.9999 meters.I assigned Landclass 130 Y Rock to the Land Class grids all the way out to 8 x 8.Can anyone tell me what I am still doing wrong. Thanks.Cra…

HiI was editing the taxiways names for my custom airport and I noticed that in the drop down menu for the taxiways connectors properties there are a couple of missing letters like the I and the N. I opened other custom airports and saw that they have these letters in addition to fancy ones... So I wonder how can we add those missing letters in AFCAD2?Michel
