I am working my way through the GMAX Gamepack Tutorial to create a house object. All has gone well up to the point where the tutorial says"53.Switch to Edge mode. On the Edit Geometry rollout, click Turn. Note The endpoints of any edge that you touch while the Turn button is active will switch to the other vertices. In the following diagram, the first polygon shows the first position of the edge; the second polygon shows the edge position after the first edge has been touched. "The sticking point for me is in (53.) where the tutorial references the Turn button. I had been proceeding very well up until this point but for the life of me I cannot find this "Turn" button t…

Hello I was flying in to OIMM (Mashhad airport, Iran) with the standard scenery and I noticed a strange thing, powerline pylons and a road between the two runways. So i thought i'd try to remove these, I used Leung's FS Scenery Creator to add an exclude at the positions where these pylons stood. But it didn't work, nothing was changed at all.I am completely new at doing anything with scenery in FS, except in FS5 were I designed some airports. Are there any suggestions what I could do here to remove these pylons, and this road which sits between the two runways? Thanks for help. :)

I have made some small sceneries with FSSC and used FSDS to make my own macros. To keep up with the new trends I have tried SceneGeneX.It works fine with the different objects from witin SceneGenX (like buildings, windsocks etc), but I have not been able to use tne standard MDL library or MDLs from outside. The SceneGenX and BGLComp seem to work as BGLs are properly generated with generic objects.I see a lot of MDLs when I select MDL objects, and when selected they also show up in the XML file and the compilation works without errors, but they never show up in FS.What have I missed?

I hope that I am doing the right thing here! For the past fortnight I have been wrestling with the 2004 SDk for producing my own scenery objects with gmax. I have searched the net and read dozens of suggestions on how to get it to work for me with no success. The solution to my problems all came down to finding the right directories! The SDk puts makemdl.exe, makemdl.parts.xml and FSModelExp.dle all in the same directory, namely g:gmaxgamepacksfs2004plugins. As far as I am concerned (and it is now easy to use and works well) the files should go into the following directories: makemdl.parts.xml ---------g:gmax the root directory FSModelExp.dle -------…

Hi all.I've spent an afternoon developing another small tool. PhotoCalc will help you figure out the download extents needed for photoreal images to cover a desired area. It will also give the safe extents for the INF file's "UseSourceDimensions = 0" and the bounding lat-long numbers. It's a beta. http://webpages.charter.net/ludowr/PhotoCalc.ziphttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/97352.jpgDick

I belong to a small VA In Aussie, but rather large Worlwide,"NoblAir"and owing to the departure of some talented people we no longer have access to painters..Scenery and terrain specialists and i decided to take the job on as i have a little time on my hands, but i dont think i am particularly gifted and i need a Mugs guide to scenery design and painting etc. I paid for FS Architect 2002 but am afraid it may be wrong for 2004,in my defense it did state 2004 aspects, but was not aware of any difficulties with it,we all have 2004 FS. Its tutorial is mainly aimed at the converted and not this Mug,i have downloaded FSDK but not sure there where to start, i need a basic area to …

Hello again...I am learning a new respect for those who do scenery design, and do it well. It is VERY apparent that good scenery design takes TIME - which is exactly what us relative-noobs don't get right away.Anyway - I am working on some photoreal scenery based on USGS photos, snagged via USAPhotomaps. (Fantastic program!) These are the .25m/pix color images, and they take up a hellish amount of memory when I try to splice together a useable section via BigJPG. Aside from investing in more RAM (which my mobo probably can't support anyway), are there any tips or tricks to get a large color BigJPG out of the program when it's yelling at you for being out of memory? (asid…

Hi guys,I have a problem with gmax v1.2 that is driving me crazy! I would really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on my problem! :-)I have to say that I am very new to gmax so I will need a dummy guide to solve my problem :-)And now to the problem.....I want to add some night lighting effects on the ground (more specificly to a default ground polygon used as apron in FS2004) as if there was a lighting pole above sheding the light directly down to the ground. That's all....no poles, no nothing...just the effect of light hitting the ground polygon from above! I have searched both the forum and the gmax help but I find bits and pieces here and there but whatever I tr…

In the TerraBuilder forum Rhumbaflappy brought up the fact that using Terraserver you can get it to project the pictures in geographic coordinates. The intrigued me, so I spent a little time there and found that it is indeed possible to get it to project the images in geographic projection, and with a little care, get them to the correct size in degrees per pixel. The thing that I am most interested in now is using the programming tools that Terraserver has provided to automate the process to get images as large as 8192 x 8192 pixels to cover an entire LOD 5 quadrant. Unfortunately I am not a programmer. I am an engineer and I understand the mathematics, and could outli…

The Virtual US Navy requires one or more experienced scenery designers. Projects will include naval air stations, weapons areas, ships and other projects that arise. Approximately 3 to 4 major exercises and deployments are held each year that will required adjustments to present scenery or additional files. Those interested should apply at http://www.vusn.ojicree.com/sceneryapp.aspx

  19. I have some good photo imagery, but it is projected into the state plane coordinate system Hawaii zone 3 (Oahu). ERDAS viewfinder doesn't seem to recognize this projection, that is the only software I have for reprojecting rasters. I have one file that's in MrSID. I saved it in tiff and it ended up over 4 gigabytes! So I got some alternative files (not mosaic'ed) that are in jpg with world files.I used a conversion program (corpscon) to convert the UL corner coordinates from the original (old hawaii datum using Clarke ellipsoid and state plane zone 3) into UTM zone 4/ meters and NAD83.Hawaii state plane zone 3 uses a transverse mercator projection, but the projection …

  20. This is a puzzler. AFCADS are suppose to take priority over stock airports. The AFCAD that came with Fly Tampa's KSAN as well as the one I downloaded are both being over ruled by the stock airport BGL.It has a higher layer number than the modified AFCADS. Whats going on here? All the other AFCADS are working just fine as far as I know. The modifieds are layer 10 and 38. The stock is layer 77... The puzzler is that I am showing two modifieds when I only have one installed. That other modified..layer 10 is actually the stock again.but it's lower and shouldnt matter. All of this is installed properly. The FT KSAN scenery is well above the Addon scenery and the Addon scenery is…

Hi,I am in the the middle of developing some photo scenery using Terramesh and I read recently that the photo area has to be certain size to work with MSFS. Apparently Microsoft SDK puts scenery into squares, trims it if its too big, but will not display it if it is too small. Can anyone tell me what is the minimum size the area has to be. (miles/kilometers) The town area I am working on is about 40 x 30 kilometers so I hope its big enough!regards Peter.

I've seen some very nice vehicles, specifically in a recently uploaded scenery, VTSS.W. Sieffert suggested an object library. This would be a great thing to be able to access as scenery designers when producing our freeware scenery.I'd like people's opinions please. Would you guys/gals be interested in uploading your creations to be used by other freeware designers? Thanks in advance,Adam

Is there a nice grass texture at a high resolution for grass around an airport. Since this is a flat area there is no need to follow mesh so something that could be used in a polygon would be good. Bad enough that we have blurred textures elsewhere but at the most visited areas - airfields - they should look decent.Dick Boley @KLBE
