Am an old hand at AFW but skills rusty. Scared of .xml, gmax, etc.I'd be glad of advice how to fix this stock scenery of the runway at PAKY - Karluk, Alaska. I've tried using SceneGenX but it won't compile. http://pic5.picturetrail.com/VOL84/1407476...34/74879348.jpgConfucious say: 'Maybe I've missed something obvious'

OK, so now I am moving along with Slarti pretty nicely except for the following problem: Occasionally, I am seeing lakes where there is lake-side land being "clipped" by a water texture. Also, in what appears to be the same problem, entire islands are being overlaid by a water texture so that only the coastline, but no land texture, shows up.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/99061.jpgFor the moment, all lakes produced by Slarti are mesh-clinging lakes, meaning that they do not have a fixed elevation so I do not believe this is an elevation problem. In Slarti, I am using options like UndefLand = 1 (so that undefined areas in the watermask become land) and LWMMerge = 0 (so …

Ever since I discovered that FS2002 could be modded when my neighbour gave it to me, I have gotten the bug (again). You see, I used to mod a couple of other games years ago, and was well into it. So going through huge text files looking for one tiny little variable and designing 3D models is something I am used to. Still annoys me sometimes though...I have now replaced every default airline in FS2002 and added lots more. A few other things have been added too, AI traffic etc. Come to think of it, Heathrow is nuts now for the traffic, I think I should back off that part!Then... I discovered Kai Tak. And I downloaded several files to do with Hong Kong and the actual …

I have been making a few objects within FSDS2 and would like to place them now where I want them. My process so far is to make a place folder in the Addon section with the subfolders for scenery and their textures. I created the objects in FSDS and set the location within the Area block of the project properties. Then I set the range to 32. Set the reference point to 7 with a scale of 0.02 and an elevation of 1644.548 meters for the mountainous area I am placing it. I am also using Area Type 5 (NEAR/FAR)What am I doing wrong after I save the .bgl into the scenery folder I created? Almost forgot to say I also made a new layer in the scenery library for the area I am creati…

I made a few searches, but didn't find what I was looking for.Can someone point me to a thread or two about adjusting default runway elevations? Many are too low, in huge trenches. Especially in hilly or mountainous areas.

Eleven months ago I purchased LAGO's much publicized Flight Scenery Enhancer (FSE) for FS2004. FSE appeared to be the dream tool for designing your own scenery. It was advertised to allow you to creat sceneries directly within FS2004 AND to allow you to use your own scenery object library.Like most people here, over time I've developed quite a library of my own preferred scenery objects. A program that would allow me to place those objects from directly within FS2004 was amazing.Unfortunately, while FSE did work splendidly within FS2004, you were stick using only it's prepacked objects which are limited and in some cases worthless unless you're developing a military air f…

Folks, I've searched high and low for a thread or tutorial covering this topic. If one exists, please point me that way. Question: is there a way to allow default objects to persist at greater distances? Can this be done generally? Or for a specific object? You have to be almost on top of some objects for them to appear, or at least for them to have all components.Jon

Hello all! After KORF (Norfolk) I have taken awhile off and moved to Jacksonville, FL. I've gotten the bug to build once again, and I can't think of a better place than KJAX. My first scenery was quite a steep learning curve, but this should go much better. However, I do have a couple of questions for everyone out there...1) Has anyone successfully gotten the help of their airport in providing building dimensions? I went to the city to get the info from blueprints, but the airport has undergone so many renovations that there are hundreds of updates. I am thinking of going directly to the airport, but I'm not quite sure what to go in there with... So, does anyone ha…

What is a good command/tool to slice a large bmp into smaller 512x512 pixels (for example) squares? I tried the PSP7 image slicer but it appears to be more for web design. I also have Photoshop 7.0.ThanksShez

Just as soon as I try to assign a single material back the the ESDG Hanger, GMax refuses to export any longer:Assertion failed: file .SceneGraph.cpp, line 646 (m_uBGLMatrixIndex != 0)I think I'll just leave the hanger the way it's been working, using the FS2k2 MakeMDL and FS2k2 CAT program.Folks are just going to have to use it the way it is. I've wasted two entire days plus too much of Arno's and Nick's time trying to resolve the myriad issues with converting this WORKING project over to FS9's XML system... :(I would have been nice to have it working with Rwny12 Object Placer, but enough is enough... :)

Hi,I was exploring the possibilities of using my own texture lines. For example I would like to use my own river (or stream) texture. FS has only 2 textures (1024 and 1025) and, as far as I can tell, they are equal :-hmmm My first experience was to use a pack of named textures. This has nothing to do with Terrain.CFG. In SBuilder I use a similar approach that I found in Ground 2k. The approach is to use an integer to refer to the pack of name textures. My LINES.TXT in SBuilder ends as follows:...[Texture.1261]Title=Bridge dirt / 10 lanes / undivided medianColor=0 200 50Textures=na.bmp[Texture.5001]Title=Water Texture for linesColor=0 0 255Textures=001b2wa1.bmpNamePack="ri…

I am using Afcad2 to add ILS's to a runway on an existing airport. They are created successfully and I can use them in conducting an ILS approach, but neither the Garmin GPS database, nor ATC seems to know anything about them. The map view is aware that of the ILS and frequency, yet ATC will only give me the choice of a Visual approach or a GPS approach, but not an ILS approach. Is there some other database which must be updated so that ATC and the stock GPS database know about the new ILS?Jeff Walker

  15. Hi,Great forum you've got here. I am attempting to use FS2004 for data playback and visualization for an experimental helicopter. In order to make this useful I need to very accurately place objects (in particular traffic cones, one road, and a fence-line). I have the results of a high precision survey in WGS-84 lat/lon/altitude, but have recently read in the Terrain SDK that the format that microsoft uses for lat/long positioning of objects is not necessarily WGS-84. Is there a utility out that can convert between the formats (source code would be preferable as I have a number of coordinates to convert)? Thanks,Kris

I installed some mesh scenery for the Maritime provinces and since the road data is different, I have pairs of parallel roads and bridges in certain areas.I was wondering if there is any tool I can use to determine which, if any, of the stock bgl's I should remove so I don't have duplicates. Thanks, Adam

  18. A post on the FLIGHTSIM Scenery Design forum asked about all the water around YSNF. I took a look at it, and since I am a novice terrain scenery understandee, couldn't figure out what is wrong with the terrain. The problem is the same in FS2002 and FS2004.If one of you wise terrain scenery wizards to take a look at this problem and define what was needed to correct it, I would appreciate.W. Sieffert

Working on a large project including many buildings (60), i have encountered following problems. (i use NovaSim,APFW,and Paintshop pro). The digital immages are all 512x512, 256 colours,256k in size, but even they are taken with excatly same camera, and processed same way, i have major differences in the "way they act" in my scenery. It seems there is a General problem, with all surfaces south oriented, the texture will not load, and you have nearly to drive your plane into the building (pass it) before the do load. Untill then they are completely faded and non sharp. Other textured sides loads at the same time without any problems, but there is quite a difference in when …

    Hi all,I've got a project that uses a photo texture grid in FSArchitect for the ground polys. It's generated a good grid and everything works fine, except that I'd also like to add some seasonal textures. Right now my code looks like this for an example grid:LoadBitmap( 0 24 0 0 0 0 eg58_ground_su0000.bmp ) Points( 0 -750 0 -750 -375 0 -750 -375 0 -375 -750 0 -375 ) TexPoly( 0 32767 0 0 0 0 0 1 255 0 2 255 255 3 0 255 )I'm not familiar at all w/SCASM -- could someone give me a quick pointer as to how I'd alter the above code to load seasonal textures i…

I have tried generating LWM code with the following restrictions on the use of the AreaFill command:1) Never use the fill command in a transparent cell2) Never fill with the same type (land/water) as the cell attributeSo far no crashes after messing a bit arround in the map and gps. I do not think 2) has anything to do with it (it's just standard common sense optimization). Looking at how the cells are sorted it is clear that the attribute is a pretty important thing to FS - more important than the location of the cell, so FS could easily be in a different rendering mode once it makes it to the transparent cells (they are last in the list).Only problem so far is that it s…
