What are your opinions on coastline and lake shoreline width? At least one freeware lake scenery author I have encountered believes that lakes look more realistic with no shoreline. Myself, I think a small shoreline makes the transition from the land to water texture more visually appealing but Ground2k or Slarti alignment problems between the water texture and the shoreline prevent me from using a very small shoreline (what I feel looks the most realistic when properly aligned).What you say?

Hey All, For the last day or two I have been trying to get my own satellite textures to work in Flight sim 2k4. So far it has been going ok except for one problem, everytime I load my imagery into flightsim there is always a watery boarder around it, whether it is on the coastline or not (see attachment). I have tried everything, using Photo Scenery Maker, trying different size bmp's from huge to tiny, tried it in different parts of the state, all to no avail. If anyone could help I would be forever grateful. Thanks!

Hi,I've been using Ground2k4 5.33 for months. I keep getting a VB error while using this program : error code 480, 'Unable to create image in Autoredraw mode' (my translation of the French error message).The problem is easily reproducible, it occurs after creation of a new (blank) project, using a big .bmp image as background (usually 16000x16000 x 256 colors). When sliding up/down or left/right, the error happens, then back to desktop. The same occurs when zooming out several times. I've tried with various color depths (24 bits) or sizes...It is a very annoying bug for I have to save my work every minute or so, before attempting any move around the workspace... or else e…

I was planning to create a ground layout for the airport using gmax. In gmax. I have a big image for the airport layout but this will make it huge to load in FS as one piece.Is there a way to map this image using slices on the Gmax ground layout surface or any other idea?ThanksMichel

It was discussed on another thread, but I'm asking again since my post there may have gone unnoticed.I'm very interested to learn how I can do that with GMax.I have an apron light object already designed in GMax, how can I add that landing lights effect so that it illuminates the ground ?Are there any tools I need?As I understand this can only be made with the prior toolkit for FS2002, but onced compiled into a object, that object will work in FS9 as well.Is that correct?Thank you for your helpGeorge DorkofikisAthens, Greece

helloim using ground2k4 to create my custom scenery and im having a problem with generating waterclass BGL file...i already have a river with shore line and islands...the river is i believe default waterclass that i have limited by LWM land polygons that define the shore line ... now i want to change the water texture applying diferent waterclass ... but after generating BGLs i cant see any diference under fs2004 g2k4 generates landclass BGL file without any problems (like LC_053_013.bgl also raw file with the same name) but there is no waterclas BGL that should have the same name with WC leters at the beginning ... although i can see generated raw file for waterclass wit…

How to create nighttextures ??. I have quite a large number of textures, and it will be imposible (besides the terminal building) to make a complete set of Photoreal _lm textures, so i have tried to manipulate/edit them in Photoshop/Photoimpression adding shaddow colours etc, but it only result in them not showing up in FS (grey).Any hints, links to tutorials,and Mentor help is most welcome :-zhelp

I added a missing taxiway to KCKB, now I have trees in and near the taxiway. I Downloaded Excbuilder2, I see several options for exclusion, but I don't know if any of the options would help. I tried to email Paavo the author but the email comes back. Anyone know if Excbuilder will remove the trees?Richard L Hill

I have a problem in the Revelstoke area (I have the BC FSGenesis mesh)Revelstoke airport is surrounded by "icebergs". I can find the airport only with the help of GSP as the runway is hidden between walls of ice.Is there a fix for this problem?RogerP.S. Nearly Finished with my Project, i face some heavy Impact from the textured objects. Im using NovaSim, Paintshop Pro, and textures are 512x512,256 coulours bmps. I have a medium machine, 2,4 Ghz,1 GB ram, Geforce/5600. I have an overall very nice framerate (24-29 frps fs locked at 30) but passing the buildings,(even they are loaded much earlier) they have an impact on plane (it jerks), and slow momentarily FRPs down. In other words, they seems to Stick to the plane ;o).I wonder if there are any possibility of "easing" the loads/impact of the PHOTO textures, or other parameters to attend to (Im very New in this field)And how does other designers manage large Airpors, mine …

Hi guys,I have a straight forward question for most of you ;-)If I have a 3D shape made in gmax and I want to texture let's say the 4 faces of it, is it better (in terms of FS2004 performance) to use 4 256x256 textures (ie. one texture file for each face) or 1 512x512 texture file including all 4 faces in it?ThanksMarios

Hi,I've tried to use comma-separated seasonal textures list directly into a VTP texture list entry but it failed. I've checked the BGL generated against the MS SDK documentation and could not see where the problem was. If I create a texture file with exactly the same name as the comma-separeted list, it is used, so I suspect this feature was anticipated and documented but eventually didn't make it into FS9.Anyone succeeded to do that ?Too bad, since it would allow local use of seasonal lines and polys without modifying terrain.cfg.Thank you for any feedback you might have.Arnaud Clere

I have the ESDG_Hanger compiled properly with the FS9 MakeMDL.exe and am able to place it anywhere through the .XML lat/lon/hdg entries.Now I need to add the "Conditional Animation..."I moved the .asm and 0.asm files to my CAT folder and ran CAT.exe (the FS9 beta version), entered the needed parameters/conditions, and it politely generates a new ESDG_hanger.MDL via the latest BGLC.exe...Here is where things go south quickly!Moving the new "CAT conditioned .MDL" file back to where I originally started, I try to compile a new .BGL by dragging my ESDG_hanger.XML file over BGLCOMP.exe. Hello,Having grown comfortable with Ground2k and LWMViewer for enhancing lakes, I now want to learn Slarti, since Ground2k is a very labor-intensive tool when trying to enhance lakes for a larger region. However, I am struggling with a learning curve. I have read the Slarti manual a few times and have walked through the example, but I am stuck on the very first task involving the terrain data. I was successful in locating terrain data from the SRTM web site mentioned in the manual, but the reference lat/lon coordinates that I am supposed to put under the (Source) key in Slarti's INF file don't seem correct. Is anyone using Photoshop to edit road textures. These are the roads in SceneryWorldTextures such as RoadsSu.bmp.Is there a short way to get the files back to FSim?I have been using Photoshop Version 5.5 for some time now, since it is easy to create edit and save transparent layers within the file for the various elements.For example I create one layer for the basic pavement, then build layers on top for tire marks, center stripe, cars and trucks, median strip, lights, shadows etc. This enables me to easily change color of pavement for example, or change the center stripe from white to yellow etc, without altering the other elements.Here is what I have been doing.For each…
