I was wondering if I could illicit a little tutorial about manipulating strings, in particular rotation.I have searched the net, and the forum here (thought I am not as adept a searcher in the new format as I was with the old one) and cant find the answers.I have looked at the big formatted strings in text based HUDS (special fonts) but what I would like is a more rudimentary explanation/understanding. I can rotate ploylines & bitmaps as good as any. I do not understand how the length of a string is measured or fixed and how to assign the axis of rotation of a string within an assigned field. For example rotating a single line string with 2 or 3 off-center numbers in …

Not a great many changes but sufficient to warrant a new version. GPS flags decoder included (as suggested by Bill) and also a backcourse flags decoder that works on the same principles. Possibly the most interesting bit is changing cursors 'on the fly' (yeuk! - lousy pun).-Dai

I've noticed that Ken Mitchell's wonderful panels for the airbus aren't very FSX friendly (or at least a couple of gauges he utilized were made for FS98.) Was wondering if anyone has already updated them to work with FSX? If not I would like to tackle it, with Ken's permission of course. Does Ken post here?

Thinking out loud here..... Why in single prop aircraft have I never seen a moving prop in the 2D panel main view?Let's say we have a twin ....Saab 340 with no VC but wing views modelled. If I toggle my hat switch on the yoke to rear left/right.... the chances are I will see a moving prop.So in theory in a single prop aircraft one could model the prop (wing view stylee) and then one could see the moving prop in a 2D view.I am not a modeller and I am a huge fan of 2D views......and really the only reason why I do not use them in single prop GA is because there is no moving prop.S my question is.....Am I right in thinking it would actually be possible to see a moving prop i…

Has anyone installed Dietmar Loleit's Radar Gauge (radar_v1.zip) in FSX that is on the front page of Avsim today? I have tried it and can't get it to work. In his PDF he had the gauge size as 0,0. I set it equal to the size of the bmp background (380,380). I put it in the new FH-1 aircraft as follows:// This Panel.cfg file created by FS Panel Studio panel editor utility - http://www.fspanelstudio.com// Built Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 12:40 FSPS Build:20340[Window Titles]Window00=New WindowWindow01=Radio PanelWindow02=Radar//--------------------------------------------------------[Window00]file=FH1Pan.BMP size_mm=1280window_size_ratio=1.000 position=7visible=1ident=0gau…

    I wonder why ACES never put any #define(s) for the GPS_FLAGS variable in the gauges.h file? // defines for GPS_FLAGS#define GPS_FLAG_ACTIVE_FLIGHT_PLAN BIT1 //bit1 = 0x0002 1 = there is an active flight plan#define GPS_FLAG_ACTIVE_WAY_POINT BIT2 //bit2 = 0x0004 1 = there is an active way point#define GPS_FLAG_ARRIVED BIT3 //bit3 = 0x0008 1 = last waypoint reached#define GPS_FLAG_DIRECTTO_FLIGHTPLAN BIT5 //bit5 = 0x0020 1 = manual direct to flight plan active

Hi folks.I know that its Ok to release repaints of FS default aircraft textures. But what about repaints of FS default aircraft gauges? I have finished a 330/340 model including VC for FSX and have repainted the default 320 engine page to fit four engines. Can i include the repainted gauge (not the whole A321 gauge, just the modified upper ecam, overhead and pedestal) here on Avsim? cheersTom

I installed the Airport Chart Viewer program into various panels as required by the instructions with no problem. However I am having a problem with getting the panel icon to work after installation. I used Flight 1 FS Panel Studio to install the icon (CV-Icon.cab) on various panels but cannot get it to open the Airport Chart Viewer program while I am flying. The icon appears but is non-functional Any advice would be helpful since it looks like a good programThanks

I have to confess, the following short statement in the Aircraft Configuration Files section of the SDK has been giving me nightmares:-'Offset (in feet) of the aircraft's reference datum from the standard Flight Simulator center point, which is on the centerline chord aft of the leading edge.'According to a friend who used to design aircraft and now designs airfields for his sins, there is no such thing as a 'centerline chord' in the real world. The planform view of the Hornet in the SDK suggests that Microsoft's centerline chord runs from somewhere on the wingtip to somewhere on the opposite wingtip. I have tried using the 744 example given in the SDK to puzzle out the p…

I have found several repaints of the Project Freeware Group's DC-9-51 for FS2000. The file description says that the model has rotating fan blades. However, when I load the planes in FS2000, the fan blades do not rotate even though the engines are running. Does anyone have an idea if there is something wrong with this model, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Hello everybody, a while I posted my InFlightData gauge project problems. Well I hit another snag in that I am trying to calculate the local time at the destination airport with an active flight plan.I believe that my variable for this time at destination is using GMT time difference I think it just adds the time difference in the current plane position. Has anyone else tried to code this idea? For example i want the gauge to read as follows:Current time: 21:00 (working code, ok) (Melbourne, Australia)Time at destination: 19:00 (currently spitting out wrong values) (Perth, Australia)My snippet of code is shown below: <Update id="Depart_Dest Times Calculations"> &l…

Just a thought that came about, after monitoring this forum for quite some time you come to the realization that a lot of easy stuff is being asked at a rate in which it exhausts the experts here and makes them un-willing to takle the guaging problems that people are having instead of building guages for people or teaching them a whole gauge making process. What I'm essentially saying is the wealth of information out there isn't consertrated and is consistent and that isn't well helpful making the task of gauging aicraft a real tuff on.So I was thinking that we Pinn a few basic tutorials that would give good examples to work and learn from, for example the following types …

  24. Hello, I would not say I am a programmer! However, I have been modifying panels for quite some time now. My problem is likely in my fundamental understanding of how gauges in FS 2004 panels work. I installed an 'autobrake' panel gauge (actually the switch form the default 737-400) into my Cessna 208 panel. I can select the settings without a problem, however when landing I cannot get the gauge to 'activate', ie: the autobrakes never come on. I've installed a few gauges in this panel before like the King Air HSI. That works fine though. Is there something I must add to the panel.cfg or aircraft.cfg files that would enable the autobrakes? I scanned those config file…
