This post is not meant to slight Kittyhawk in any way--I am going to use it as an example of something that I've done and many designers have done--and I wanted to post a warning so designers are aware of it when trying to get their aircraft in the right "scale" for various projects.A while back, someone had noted that Kittyhawk's 737-700 seemed oversized. I couldn't tell, since it is hard to know unless you have something to compare it to. So that's what I did...I created a "yardstick" in GMAX the exact length of the 737-700. And the Kittyhawk model was indeed too long, and now I know exactly why.When a mfg gives a length measurement for an aircraft, simply put it is …

this is a really dumb question...but I dont know the answer.How do I create a *.cab file? I thought winzip could do it, because it can open them, but apparently not. Whats the process?I need to update an xml string in a cab gauge that I have.ThanksEric

I am trying to make a very simple xml gauge. Its an Anti-Skid(dummy) switch that when turned on it makes a light go on. The light(bitmap) is located in another gauge(in the same cab file). For some reason I can not get this to work. Everytime I add the "anti-skid light" portion of the code into the cab file it totally messes up the whole gauge. Here is the code below, please tell me what I am doing wrong..I have exhausted all options : (GAUGE #1(L:antiskid,bool)%Anti-Skid (%((L:antiskid,bool))%{if}ON%{else}OFF%{end})L:antiskid,bool) ! (>L:antiskid,bool)GAUGE #2(L:antiskid,bool)Any Help is appreciated.-Virtual Pilot

How come?Everytime I use 'Dark_Orange' as a colour in a xml-gauge it comes out White? Few colours that are usable give the colour I want. I tried to work in 16 and 32 bit but no go.Whats Up???ThanksBassy

Rather than bury this in the other thread, I thought I'd describe the entire process here.Thanks go to Lou "Firestriker" for providing the idea and the hints needed, as well as a "test model" which provided the needed heirarchy already set up. His XML code worked, but didn't work as well as I'd hoped. After a lot of T&E, I have finally managed to crack this particular nut.This is the parts heirarchy:The "dummy nodes" are tiny cubes that're hidden within the elevator(s) and have their pivots set for the correct axis of rotation. IMPORTANT NOTE: these MUST be real geometry! You cannot use GMax "dummy nodes" that have no geometry, otherwise the animation is stripped ou…

Does anyone have a solution for controlling the exits via embedded XML?I tried the following, but it didn't work completely. The keyboard will still open/close the main door, but the mouserect doesn't work at all... :( door_passengerEXIT OPEN:0percent10010HandTOGGLE_AIRCRAFT_EXITAccording to the SDK:TOGGLE_AIRCRAFT_EXIT Toggles primary door open/close. Follow by KEY_SELECT_2, etc for subsequent doors.

I'm relatively new to gauge programming and not very familiar with XML-programming. At the moment I'm in a learning process, mostly by trial and error. My question now is:Is it possible to to create an XML-gauge (namely a click spot), which does exactly the same, what is assigned to a certain, defined (keyboard)-key?E.g. one creates a gauge telling it "do, what the B-key does!". So if the B-key is assigned to setting the barometric pressure, this XML-gauge will also set the barometric pressure. But when the assignement of the B-key is changed to - let's say - "zoomig in", then that XML-gauge will automatically (without reprogramming) also take over the new zooming-in func…

Hey,n4gix developed this really good code for drooping ailerons. It works great, the only thing I need to get to work is for it to be a smooth animation rather than just appearing in the up, or down positiion. Here is the coding, what has to be changed?Best Regards,BWIA330 aileron_droop_left (A:GENERAL ENG PCT MAX RPM:1, percent) 20 > if{ 80 } els{ 0 }

FSDS2.4 - fs9 - XMLIs there a method of selecting just the 'main' tanks when there are 'aux' tanks present in the model?I have made an XML gauge to select each of the aux, main and centre tanks individually and using the 'enum' unit value. Is there a workaround?Regards Ted

Hey everyone, I just found this tutorial from www.suurland.com. This guy has extensive experience in 3-D modelling, and has written a tutorial on setting up a box with 3-views. The tutorial is written for 3dsmax, but can probably be used for gmax as well, due to the similarities between products. There is an extensive library of aircraft 3-views as well, but a lot of you probably knew that :)Hope this is helpful, I'm downloading gmax right now to try it out.http://www.suurland.com/tutorials_blueprint_max.htm

First off, if this isn't the correct forum, please excuse my intrusion. A desperate man often makes simple mistakes.That said, here's the problem: I'm not an aircraft designer; I am familiar with GMAX and FSDS2 to the point that I can do non-aircraft macros. I learned what I DO know because I am trying to recreate an old Strategic Air Command base, Loring AFB Maine (USA). The project is about 85% complete, but I've run into a show stopper.One can't have an F-111 base without some kind of F-111 there. I've found three F-111 aircraft in the sim world, all three for FS2002 and I'm doing this for FS2004. The two ALPHA's (F-111A and EF-111 RAVEN) produce the "incompatibl…

In my quest to find the reason why some users of my "groundhandling" gauges have problems with sounds not being played, I (accidentally) found a reason: slow framerates.There is something every XML gauge designer should realise when creating an XML gauge.As Arne Bartels already explained a few times in various posts, if you give an event in an XML-gauge, the result of it will not be visible untill the next time the gauge is scheduled.Example:If you have XML code like :....(>K:TOGGLE_LOGO_LIGHTS) ......(A:LIGHT LOGO,bool) //Read LOGO lights state......the new LOGO light state is not reflected in XML untill the next time the gauge code is run.Unlike G:Var's or L:Var's.FS…

#1 in the "A" variables there is a "ENG1 HYDRAULIC PRESSURE" and a "HYDRAULIC1 PRESSURE", along with the following in the aircraft.cfg:{hydraulic_system}normal_pressure = 3000.0 //PSIelectric_pumps = 0 //no electric pumpsengine_map = 1,1,0,0 //pumps on Eng1,2Is there any way of turn these on and off?#2 in the "A" variables there is "GENERAL ENG1 OIL LEAKED PERCENT". however I can not find any settings for turning this on, or setting amounts. Have looked thru the .air and the .cfg's.#3 for the life of me I can not get the DC amps to drive a meter, being direct current I can get a text readout, however I can not get it to drive a -/+ style gauge as DC wou…

I've searched around the forums, and been unable to find the answer to this, but does (>K:AP_PANEL_VS_HOLD) actually do anything? Regardless of the value of K:AP_VS_VAR_SET_ENGLISH, there doesn't seem to be a VS HOLD capability separate from AP_ALT_HOLD.Does anyone know why K:AP_PANEL_VS_HOLD exists? If it's not to command a V/S, is there some other purpose?Thanks,--Jon

Hello! is it possible to read the gear compression using xml ?The reason that i ask is that i would like to model a tyre as real as possible. Meaning that when an aircraft is taxiing or standing still, the tyre is not perfectly round, giving the impression of having some weight on top.thanx.http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~elche/Genera...a_fl_md_wht.gif http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~elche/Genera...a_fl_md_wht.gifDiego CoslovichWebsite: http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~elche/index.htm (under construction)E-mail: [email protected]

Hi all, I am considering an update to my XB-70 of a while back, but only if I can figure out how to get the wingtips to truly fold down as a function of speed. I believe this can be done with an XML gauge linked to the flaps. The XB-70 had no flaps so that option is available. The flap positions (2) and rotation can be controlled in the .cfg file. I am very new to XML so I would appreciate a start on this. I am acquainted with Arne Bartell's defintion of the gauge parameters and have done some cut and paste XML files for scenery locations. I really need a template to get started or any other help will be appreciated. Thanks---------Paul

Has anyone had any succes with using the PSS777 panels for the FS2K2 version (FMC, MFD etc) on FS9?I'm tried using the FS2K version on FS9, which works fairly well, but the MFD doesn't work. The overhead panel (FS2K2 version) also does not fully work.Richie

Anyone seen a decent model for FS2004 that is similiar enough to a 172P model that one could use the carb heat option? The real air is a good model but its based on the R model and has AUX.

I am very displeased with the panels and aircraft.cfg files for any H-60 Blackhawk I have seen. (They seem to be all Bell Jetrangers with H-60 3-D models wrapped around them)I want to design a real H-60. I am working furiously at both the cockpit, having done most the panels, and about to begin on gauges.I have also started modding the Config file. I am starting with Jordan Moore's H-60 from Hovercontrol, which is beautifully rendered.But as soon as I put the correct gross weight and empty weight, it will no longer lift off the ground. I have tried added rotor data from the R-22 but without any improvement. All I can to is drive around on the ground.Any and all help w…
