Bill and others,I have been using the techniques described in the vc lighting tutorial and have gotten to the point where I have the _L.bmp in place to hide the ugly black when the light is out.I have run into a significant problem that may result in the scrapping of the entire project if my suspicions are correct. My panel is not square. At my current level of understanding it looks like the the gauge planar will either be partly outside the cockpit edges or I will have large empty spaces in the panel due to the need for square textures. See screen below. Obviously if it is outside and black this is not gonna look good at all.Is there a way to fix this? The image shows t…

Hi guys,I using the Flight Factory Simulations RV-7 payware.Nice little aircraft...I'm planning worldtrip with the real aircraft of this type, in a couple of years form now. So now it the time to do some routing and fuel testing with the FFS one.The aircraft comes with the Left/Right/Off Fuel selector, just like in the real aircraft. However, I like to modify it towards the C182 L/R/Both fuel selector.I've installed the C182 fuel selector on the panel, but unfortunately the Both position does not work.I can select L, R and OFF, but the middle one does not keeps it position. What do I need to change in the cfg file, to make it work please...?Thanks for your help,BigglesFlyin…

I now have a fully backlit set of gauges for the VC of my Flight1 C172 -- and it looks really good at night - except that the overall VC lighting ( which I believe is provided by a FX file) is too bright . Can anybody advise how to lower it's intensity please?Unlike Miltons D18 - which provides separate switches for the gauge lighting and the VC cockpit lighting, with the C172, both sets of lighting are either on or off. Thanks Barry

Anyone interested in taking them up? I've worked on them and not had the will to carry on with them. Started them last year and only found them again recently. I did have an MD11 one somewhere, but that is gone now!Anyway, anyone interested?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122135.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/122136.jpgOtherwise these will be winging their way toward the Recycled Bin!

Here's the plan:I'd like to add a pitch-adjustable searchlight to a helicopter I'm building in GMAX. For that, I'd like to "hijack" FLAPS (yes, flaps) functionality (GMAX part Animation) to animate the searchlight. Flaps would give me the control of several pitch positions (from straight down to forward facing) by using F5-F8 keys. I've done all the part animations and keyframing (tried without keyframes as well, as per SDK) but I am not getting flaps functionality at all. To test the animation (and my sanity), I assigned "light_land" to the part and it works perfectly - except it turns off the lights at the end of the cycle :(Question is: Is it possible to invoke flaps i…

Hi all, I have made a panel modification with RealityXP gauges for the C421 with additional gauges in the virtual cockpit. Is it possible for me (not a complete computer dummy, but a non-developer) to adapt the night lighting in the virtual cockpit by editing a texture file? I have tried imagetool, but haven

With help from Tom, I have a really well functional rudder/Torque control on my chopper. I took the code, used the info from Rob about trapping keys and ran further with it and built a functional trim system for a chopper ( they do not trim available in FS9 for choppers). But as usual I am stuck, as I want to limit the trim throws to a maximum of -10 and +10 in both X,Y axis.I have tried various permutations and combinations of -10min 10 max, -10 max, 10 min and Vice Versa in the ON KEY sections with no success.Any Hints? (L:trimdown, percent) (L:elevControl, percent) != if{ (A:ELEVATOR POSITION,percent) (L:trimdown, percent) (L:elevControl, percent) - - 163.84 * /-/ (&g…

Hey guys, I found the problem with the bad frame rates on my gauges, but the solution is harder. I am trying to make a pop up of the gauge(PFD) but I need to determine which gauge is drawn in order to disable the gauge on the main panel when the pop up gauge is on. What I need to find out is which gauge is drawn, but I have no clue on how to figure that out. Thank you very much for your help.Sincerely,Tiberiu Brasov

Hi!I noticed that in all (I suppose) FS2004 a/c's, there is a delay of some tenths of seconds between joystick/yoke/rudder deflection and the actual deflection of control surfaces (or VC yoke/rudder). My questions are:1) Is it just a visual delay (i.e. effecting just the a/c visual model)? Or is this delay actually reflected (taken into account) in the flight dynamics?2) Should the second hypothesis be true, why it is there? I noticed it's is in other flight simulators too (e.g., IL2 series). So I suppose it's there to take into account the fact that in a real a/c you can't probably wag the flight controls as fast as you can on a pc joystick. That's good, but on the other…

Somehow, the Boeing777-300 cab file (gauge) has been deleted from my system. I search on all Flight simulator CDs, but cannot find that CAB file. Can anyone help me to find it - i know it's there somewhere on one of those CDs, but i just don't see it. Please help. Thanks.

Just to point out to robains that many of us are working hard at producing quality freewarwe (or in my case open source) AC that will rival anything bought from a vendor. Maybe not in doodads, but in overall quality of experience and fun to fly. And with high framerates! My question is why some people choose to release a product as payware, thus seriously limiting their models addoption potential. Wide addoption of a quality free model is IMO is far more valuable in the long term than the limited revenue gained by the low sales volume of a typical small "third tier" vendor (who often have litte or no production or marketing history to boost interest).Anyway back on topic. …

Can a Click event be used to trigger more than one bitmap? For a spring loaded switch (self centering) could the click trigger a switch down bitmap followed, a second later, by the switch moving back to center?

Hi everyone, I am in the process of planning/building a simpit based loosely on the BAe ARJs and have a question. Is there a program (free or payware) that will display FS panels on networked computers via WideFS or similar, as most of the "remote" panels/gauges that I have found are for 1 and 2 engined aircraft (not 4). And when I do find engine instruments for 4 engines they don't really fit the aircraft. Thanks in advance, Adrian W.

Has anyone coded a gauge to illuminate a gear in transit light? I looking at this and was going to try A:GEAR TOTAL PCT EXTENDED call using >1 and <100 (as the light remains on until ALL wheels are up or down). Is there a better way or am I on the right track?

I am trying to program a gauge that will intercept the elevator signal from joystick and process it on its own. I don't want FS to translate those signals directly into elevator deflection. I understand that one way of doing it would be through disabling joystick in FS (KEY_JOYSTICK_CALIBRATE event) and handling it throught DirectInput. 1. Is there a more elegant way of accomplishing this ? I only want to "steal" the pitch axis. The roll and yaw can be processed by FS, as far as I am concerned.2. Is there a way to read in the FS joystick axis assignments ? Should I be forced to use the dreaded "disable joy / DI" approach, I would like to preserve the FS assignments in ord…

Hi, looking at photographs of military aircraft cockpits, the round knob on the end of the gear lever looks transparent and I'm pretty sure this illuminates. Can someone please tell me the colours and sequence of its illumination. At the moment I have guessed,Lever up, gear up, glows white and stays on.Lever down, gear in transit, glows red,Lever down, gear down, glows green and stays on.Just to complete the story, I also have a set of 3 lamps for the 3 gear legs that are off for gear up, red for transit and green stay on for gear down. Thanks, nick

Me again :DProgress is being made in the Beech 18G I have been working on. See screens below. I have been researching the type extensively and have come to the conclusion that its actually a Beech Midel G18S (much later version) and that Greg's use of "N18G" as its ATC REG is unfortunate indeed as that REG is listed as a "Fatal accident resulting in a total loss of the AC". Gonna have to change that, lol :).Anyway, the only think left to fix is the landing lights. For some reason I can not see the light when in the VC. The light is visible from the 2D, and exterior views, but not VC view.Having redone the config files there seems to be no way to add them there (adding the…

I have read Robs post about trapping the ON KEY events with keyboard codes, such as (L:keytest, bool) ! (>L:keytest, bool) Which simply uses the spacebar as a switch.Does anyone know if it is also possible to trap joystick events, such as the hat switch ?Steve

I want to control the tail rotor of a helicopter using the RUDDER_SET function. This works OK: (A:RUDDER POSITION,percent) 163.84 /-/ * (>K:RUDDER_SET) However, I want to be able to influence the position of the rudder(tail rotor) based on external variables such as throtttle position, so replaced it with the following: (A:general eng propeller lever position:2,percent) 50 > if{ (A:general eng propeller lever position:2,percent) 5 / (>L:addrudder, enum) } (A:RUDDER POSITION,percent) (L:addrudder, enum) - 163.84 /-/ * (>K:RUDDER_SET) But this seems to start an incremental counter that, as soon as the (A:general eng propeller lever position:2,percent) 50 &…

Is there a way to make nose gear steering independent of the rudder ? I currently use joystick as a tiller and pedals for rudder control. To make it act as a tiller, I assign the joystick axis to rudder. However, this causes the rudder to deflect. Is it at all possible to control the nose gear independently of the rudder ? Or does the ground steering actually occur by the yawing motion and the steerable nose gear is just a fancy visual effect ?Adam
