For those who're interested, I've posted a MSCV++ .NET 2003 Setup Tutorial on the 'other' FS website in the new "Panel & Gauge Design" forum.I've also posted the first installment of a new tutorial on converting single gauges to mult-gauge format for those who might find this information useful.BTW, in case anyone might wonder "Why another Panel & Gauge forum?"...This forum seems to be (mostly) about XML gauge development, which is terrific! But, it makes it somewhat more difficult for those who're "into C" to find information quickly. ;)BTW, I would welcome anyone who wishes to author a tutorial or provide useful 'hints and tips' to do so. By no stretch of the …

Hi,I have what I think is a software problem and not a hardware problem and sure could use some help with it. I fly FS2002 PRO under Windows XP SP2.My problem is that when I make my 2D panel file (in either Adobe Elements, Corel Photo-Paint 9 or Corel Draw 9 and use any kind of gradient fill I subsequently get "banding" in the areas that have the fill. This banding only occurs in the FS2002 2D panel screen. I have attached some JPG files showing the virgin 2D panel file and a screen capture of the panel as produced by FS2002 that has the "banding" in the lower left corner. I am unable to produce the 2D panels that I would like unless someone can tell me if they have ever …

Hi there. I'd like to get automatic slats to work, using XML code I copied from another post a while ago (sorry, I forget who wrote it :( ).I'd like to use leading edge flaps instead of the water rudder, as this way drag and lift can be added.I know almost nothing about XML, unfortunately, and so I was hoping someone here could tell me exactly how to write the new sections.Ideally, I'd like to use the FSDS2 keyframe animation l_pct_lead_edge_flap0 , if appropriate. Many thanks for helping a noobie.:) This is the code as it is now:(A:Airspeed select indicated or true, knots) 140 < (A:INCIDENCE ALPHA,degrees) 11 > && if{ (A:WATER RUDDER HANDLE POSITION,bool) !if…

Why is it that when I select SMOOTH SUBDIVIDE it usually boogers up whatever I am workin on? Take a cylinder for instance, 12 sided and a few sections (pic 1) and use SMOOTH SUBDIVIDE on it it goes from looking like a cylinder to something better suited for cracking walnuts (pic 3). SUBDIVIDE does not have nearly the same effect and it in my observation is much smother. Subdivide even has a habit of popping up the new point it makes from the plane of the original poly and making what was once smooth, kind of rough, faint triagles appear in the shaded model (pic 2).Advice appreciated! No subdividing, yet...http://home.wi.rr.com/pbartelt/1.JPGSubdivide...http://home.wi.rr…

As a panel developer, I sometimes crash FS when developing gauges. When it happens, it takes a significant amount of time (and the disk turns continuously) before the FS crash window appears (see attachment).Do you know a way to avoid this? This window is useless for me and takes many seconds to come up, so I would like to have FS crashing and stop immediately, without having to wait for that window...Any help is welcome !!Eric

Is there any more elegant way to make fowler flaps for an aircraft using FSDS or is placing the Part axis way below it so the flap travels along an arc (kind of linear) using the stock flap animation about the best bet?Hope this question makes sense. I think that if you know what I am asking, the question is clear enough.

I decided to give "MAKING" rather then "USING" a try, so I picked up FSDS V3 and got to work.I have moved on to cutting windows from the fuselage of my aircraft using boolean operations. Problem I am haing is that when I apply smoothing, the wrinkles caused by the numerous polygons that boolean ops generate make my plane a complete mess. Help in resolving this is appreciated.http://home.wi.rr.com/pbartelt/nosmooth.JPGhttp://home.wi.rr.com/pbartelt/smooth.JPG

The Question: Is there a way to position window Y relative to the current position of window X?Background.I've been re-designing some of my favorite panels for use in a dual-monitor envrionment. I arrange the monitors like this [1][2].Monitor 1 holds the primary flight display (left 1/3 of the instrument panel) and can be toggled to the Minipanel view. Monitor 2 holds the middle 1/3rd with the engine displays plus other windows (GPS, Pushback, Throttle Quadrant). My Minipanels usually have a background consisting of part of the window frame, and the top of the instrument panel with part of the MCP, Master Caution, etc. I also have the AGS HUD in the minipanel view. One last question!Back when I was using FSDS2 and wanted reflective textures, all I got was transparent textures. Now when I want transparent textures, all I get is reflective textures!I am trying to create some transparent railings. I have created a DXT3 file and the alpha is black where I want tranparency and white where the railings are located.Since I also have a light texture, which settings should I use for the texture in FSDS3. "R" and "L", "A" and "L", or "R" and "A" and "L"? What setting for the Alpha? I am using 255.Do I need to use some special settings for the texture? Thanks,Phil

I have previously used _lm files to provide night-lighting. These were simple bmp files with no alpha. However FSDS3 appeared to assume that if one bmp texture file had night lighting, they all did. So, it would refuse to texture any bmp file that did not have a corresponding _lm texture file. Also, my dxt1 transparent files became reflect files. So, I decided to switch to using _L files for night lighting. I have changed the regular files to DXT3 files with a black alpha. For light files, I have used my old _lm files and added a black alpha channel. In FSDS texture properties, I have checked the box for "Light Map" only, not Light Map with Alpha. (Although it doesn't …

Is there a variable (or a set of variables) that tells me whether the GPS is opearating in Enroute, Terminal or Approach modes? For Term and Enr, I supposed I could simply look at the distance from the waypoint and conclude the mode from that, however, "App" mode is supposedly within 2NM from the FAF (at least in the real world), but how does one determine this distance arbitrarily in MSFS for any waypoint? Or is there simply a flag variable that tells me the mode?

Hi guys.I've been fiddling about with g-max for around a year now but keep stumbling on basic modelling techniques to give a good visual result.I've attached a screen capture of the model I'm working on at the moment. My question is, which is the suggested best method for creating the wings? The method I have employed is to create seperate spline profiles and shape merge them to both sides, then extrude the resulting polygons to form the wings. I then used the boolean cut method to cut out and form the ailerons. In creating the tail surfaces, however, I did these as separate objects and left them "floating " in position without attaching to the fuselage in any way. I also …
