No not Ms2002-for real.Last time I flew the Deb I had a triple-altimter/vsi jumping +-200 ft., prop overspeed, and autopilot going crazy (increasing uncontrolable oscillations) because of the jumping-all while in imc.Luckily-in for the annual for the last week-oops took two weeks-needed a new muffler.Took it out for a test flight yesterday-prop works great (turned out the cable was binding in a tight space-was corrected)-muffler works great-altimeter and vsi still jumping but only 20-40 ft. vs. 200 but airspeed indicator jumping in sympathy now. Back in the shop.Ready by Sunday for a flight to Oshkosh?....w'ell see...may be driving instead if not looking pristine in the n…

Can anyone point me to information concerning video card vs. cpu? What I'm looking for is an explanation of what is the max video processing I can use with my 1.3G Athlon. For example, if I get a Ti 4400, am I going beyond the ability of my cpu to keep up? Is it a waste of money?Conversely, if I buy the Ti 4400, would I see a net gain if I also replaced my cpu with a faster one?Any help on an explanation of this relationship would be appreciated.Wilson

Now, before anybody accuses me of it: No, I don't have a crack problem and I don't hallucinate stuff (to my knowledge, anyhow)!Last night, I was taking a little flight from Nashville to Jackson, MS when I realized that my fuel gauge was going down in a big hurry. I could actually see it winding down. I had a nice economy cruise configuration going, but this thing was going nuts! I'd taken off with both of the main tanks full and the aux tanks about 50%. Should have been plenty of fuel for a flight of this nature.Figuring that I'd not make it to Jackson, I brought torque to 10% and made for the closest airport. I watched the fuel gauge the entire time. When the thin…

Are, as Mark Twain said, exaggerated.I'm posting first (so it will get buried, unlike me :>) but for those of you who saw me land last in the F16 and then crash, I bailed out before I hit those buildings. It was only the second time I've ever landed a jet, and the first time it took me several miles to roll to a stop -- apparently there aren't several miles of grazing land around Heathrow airport for some odd reason (I didn't know about reverse thrusters -- I've been told it's F2 but I'll never find out, since that was my last jet ride. The FAA English equivilent pulled my ticket as soon as I came to a stop and I need to take a boat back to the states).BTW, I helped es…

If you are wondering about relative OS performances you might find this review interesting, with reference to FS2K2:http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/hardware/features/os_shootout/I did because I use Win98Lite, one of the four OSs reviewed.98Lite is a way to take a Windows OS and "nobble" the integrated browser and email client - disintegrating the cumbersome IE and Outlook express code from the registry and Windows Explorer. It leaves you with a very light and fast OS, and the opportunity to use an alternative Browser/Email client like Navigator or Opera, or indeed to separately install IE leaving Windows Explorer unencumbered with web code.98Lite comes in three varieties - f…

I am only a few months into this hobby and, apart from a few sample flights in other aircraft, I've been learning in the default Cessna 172 and 182 craft. I now have the urge to step-up to something bigger like a small jet and learn that. I'm not a purist and fly with FS aircraft easy settings - I'm happy just to get off the ground fly VFR taking in the scenery and then land without too much bumping! Last night I tried the default Learjet which was the right kind of thing but it has only a 2D cockpit and I prefer 3D with smooth panning views. I have FS2002 standard (not Pro) so no Beech. Any recommendations for a freeware jet suitable for a learner and not too big a step-…

Hi Folks,After doing some research on the net, I was really looking forward to experiencing Frankfurt's impressive skyline while flying with FS2K2 - especially considering that MS advertised it as a "high detail" area. Unfortunately, I've only been able to find 2 custom buildings - the Commerzbank Zentrale and the MesseTurm (Trade Fair Tower). These buildings are impressive; but they're located pretty far west of the city near Mainz (along the Rhein) - everything else is just "plain" autogen. I'm not complaining (I was actually pretty impressed with the MS rendition of downtown Berlin); but I expected to see a little more detail in central Frankfurt. Is it just my system …

Afternoon all.I have a rather sad PC in terms of performance:600mhz128 RAMVideo cards etc ( not sure ).What I'm asking of you experienced PC users is advice on what to upgrade to improve FS performance on a limited budget. If I was to spend about NZ$500 (approx.US$250.00) what should I be looking at?Increasing RAM to 256?Faster CPU?Newer video/sound card? The main problem I want to get around is the very dodgy looking scenery, and being able to fly at night in clouds, with rain, and not have the PC 'stuttering'. Oh, and to be able to get down the glideslope inside 60 minutes would be a bonus too!My guess is the RAM, but given the limited budget, I would appreciate opinions …

Hi.Can anyone please tell me where to find the switch to turn on/off the taxi light for the default 737?I can turn the landing lights on and off by either pressing 'L' or using the overhead panel, but for many occasions this is overkill and all I see is glaring light in front of the plane. There have been occasions where I've started a new flight and the taxi light is already on, but there must be a switch somehwere!!!Many thanksAllblack

Hi all, I've got two more questions about FS2002 defaults. One: is there any way to have the engines OFF when the flight starts out?? I like to go through the startup procedures, but it kills realism to shut them down...and then restart. Two: can you land in Antarctica?? I am on a quest to touch EVERY continent in the world with my trusty (default) Cessna Caravan!! Sadly, I can't find anway to touch down into Antarctica and then re-take off from the same point. Anyway to start a flight at certain co-ordinates?? Thanks for any info!

I was just on a flight from San Francisco, flying down the coastline towards LA when the textures suddenly turned weird and started looking like this...I shut down FS and rebooted my computer thinking it would go away, but it didn't. When I started FS again, it looked the same. But if I use Slew to go up the coastline, the textures turn normal again somewhere just north of LA, but if I slew back the textures look like this again. I also disabled 3D Hardware, thinking it was a problem with my graphics card, but the problem didn't go away in software mode. What could be the problem? I've never had this problem before.

NOTE: This edition of the rules includes the full text of Tornado's NOTAM #2. This Notice to Airmen includes specific restrictions on air space usage around the destination airport, Heathrow. This is the seventh thread in the Round the World Challenge series. We start a new thread when the old one gets to around fifty posts or so in order to make the topic easy-to-follow for everyone. To find out how this flight got started, follow these threads, in order:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7103.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7301.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7345.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/7399.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dc…

I've taken a look around for a FS2002 version of the Grumman Goose but haven't located one. Anyone know if one exists? The only thing I have found is an FS98 version.I was inspired to do some island hopping after remembering a cheesy 80's television series (points to anyone who can name it).If my search is fruitless, can anyone suggest a similiar, 30's or 40's-era amphibious plane that is available as a GMAX FS2k2 add-on?Mack

Anybody try viewing streaming video from AirVenture? How do you view it? Everytime I view it and the airsideTV website all I get is the same video repeated each day! After that my explorer browser gives me an error message and shuts down. Not much fun! Any ideas on what I am doing wrong? Thanks!Airbus

Is it only me, but people think that Gyro drift is excessive. It seems to drift a good 10 - 15 degrees every few minutes, which is unrealistic - more like 5 degrees every half hour in real life.Is there a way of changing it in the configuration files?thanksRichard

Need some help on a minor problem.Recently, I've noticed that some of the ATC voice instructions kind of "stutter" or hesitate, particularly on numbers such as "9".My FS2002 sound "quality" setting is at "medium".The sound card is a Creative SB Live (OEM).Can anybody offer some suggestions to eliminate this irritation? Many thanks.Jim Turnbull
