    Started by Guest JBlack,

Jim Young kindly granted that I could raise this question as a separate post.. (Note that I didn't want to reply to Bill's earlier comment as it would put that other thread off topic). Anywayz. I was wondering why the excellent Crash Modelling topic started by WebMax got closed down so soon despite it only being opened for 3 days...yet the American Truck Simulator topic is still open despite it being started nearly three weeks ago.. Bill has already responded to my question by saying: Thanks Bill, but I disagree that the topic was stuck in a loop. There was a genuine and lively debate going on -including a discussion between Devon and YtZpilot in which …

Regarding the damage modelling I'll keep my fingers crossed you will at least consider making more of it compared to what we have today because I always felt it feels odd that regardless how you handle your aircraft nothing bad will happen unless you actually slam the aircraft into the ground when the sim will just pause and you get a crash message with the aircraft fully intact. That to me always felt very unrealistic.

  5. Imagine you're flying a C172 in the real world and suddenly notice an F-15 flying off your wingtip and rocking its wings. Um, why is he there and what do you do? I got a bit of a kick out of this article and the Official FAA pdf relating to it. http://www.popularmechanics.com/military/a19202/heres-how-f-15s-practice-intercept-procedures-for-the-super-bowl/ https://www.faa.gov/news/safety_briefing/2015/media/Intercept-Procedures.pdf

  6. Hi all, As an aspiring pilot, I am truly curious about where many of you have come from on your treks to through aviation. Take it as an interview, of sorts. What is your past in aviation? How did you get here? Which, if any, colleges/universities did you attend? Did you originally plan to have anything to do with aviation? I have recently been looking into universities that offer aerospace engineering programs; I am near certain that I want my career to pertain to aerospace engineering. Speaking of which... are there any astronautical engineers out there in the AVSIMosphere? If you have a PPL, where did you go to get it? Were you always certain you wanted a pilots…

  13. I have been "learning" about flying and FSX for a number of years. With the recent discussion about "new" simulators I thought I would see what information was available about FSX development and ESP evolution. I am going to include a few links that might be of interest to some of you. After looking at this material I am more enamored with FSX/ESP and the evolution. Perhaps some of you (particularly those that have dug into the SDK in depth - i.e.Steve Parsons, developers, etc.)already know most of this. I hope you find these interesting. Let us start with the WiKI information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_Flight_Simulator Microsoft ESP S…

Alabeo added the PA-23F-250 to the inventory today. This is the one I got my MEL rating in way back when. From time to time, I have seen where folks have asked for an Aztec - this one looks like the real deal. Up to date with F1 GTN750 and Reality XP GNS VC panel integration and comes with a WX-11 Storm Scope built in. 47 screenshots here. http://alabeo.com/ Regards, Ray

  16. Started by high-n-dry,

I loaded this onto my system yesterday and am pleased with it so far. I agree with the approach taken to include only a few elements of 'realism' to begin with, but look forward to options to increase the diving challenge as the game progresses. I'm glad the focus is on the enjoyable aspects of diving, with just some of the more overarching reality constraints included. I really don't care to have the game constantly reminding me to click on a button to pop my ears every 6' down or so, or to have to stop and clear a leaky/foggy mask every so often. Been there / done that diving, and while having to do so certainly won't deter me from diving, I see no value to adding such…

I know what the autofeather does (basically, in layman's terms, at least) but what I don't see is under what conditions it would be set to 'Armed', as if the pilots were always anticipating problems. I had a nice real-world experience recently. I was travelling from Jaffna to Colombo via Trincomallee (Sri Lanka) and appalling weather prevented us from completing the flight the same day. The airline put us up in a hotel and I got chatting with the pilots, who came round to all the passengers during the course of the evening. Of course I mentioned MSFS and they seemed quite interested to talk to me (and a bit surprised at my knowledge - such as it is!). They asked if I …

  19. ^_^DoveTail updated their stance on the next simulator in their series. Just go to their "Our Products" page. They say they expect to have a release to market sometime in 2016. They allegedly are bringing in a Lead Artist to collaborate with their aviation team in producing the Simulator... exciting indeed ^_^^_^ ^_^ Some of you have probably seen this already, considering it was first posted on March 31, but the following, word for word, was posted on Facebook by DoveTail Games: """ Dovetail Games is currently recruiting for a Lead Artist to work as part of our Aviation team delivering the next generation of flight simulation. 20. I was browsing about DTG and the new flight simulator, and I came across this little post: http://www.winbeta.org/news/dovetail-games-flight-school-flight-simulator-will-soon-windows-10-pc According to them and a quote allegedly from the DTG CEO, Paul Jackson, a program entitled "Flight School" will be released soon, proceeded by the DTG Flight Simulator later this year. This article was published only yesterday, so let's see how the story develops and how Dovetail responds! UPDATE: Or you can just go to the Dovetail website. Check it out! http://www.dovetailgames.com/products Quote: "After acquiring the rights to develop and publish new titles utilizing Microsoft’…

After reading Ray Marshall's excellent review, recently, on F1's GTN 750, I purchased same to run on the RealAir Lancair Legacy V2 and Turbine Duke V2. The review was written in 2014 which makes me a bit of a johnny-come-lately but indeed Ray's comment, that this changes everything certainly has come true. It is absolutely amazing! My question - Is there a way of incorporating this into the panel of the Carenado Phenom 100 OR other aircraft - not the pop-up only - and if so, is there a website or sites that address this - ie requirements, how-to's, etc? I am running FSX SP2 on Windows 7. Thanks for any help.

  22. Ok - Probably the most answered question of all time (and probably the dumbest one of 2016 to date on Avsim), but I can't find many references to it. As an early flight-simmer I used to struggle along on my Amiga Commodore in my B17- Flying Fortress from Microprose and used to dream about owning the sort of 'mega-hardware' that those early FS programs were written for. As the years progressed (and I upgraded), it always seemed that the developers were forever one step ahead of me - inasmuch as they were able to introduce bigger and better effects and graphics that were always, tantalizingly, just beyond the medium/max sliders abilities of my existing Rig without bring…

  23. Started by HighBypass,

When setting up a flight in FSX, you have the choice of positioning the aircraft on the active runway, or any available gate/parking location at the airport. The list can be quite large if you've selected a major airport. My google-fu is failing me in that I cannot find any maps showing the locations of the aforementioned gates and parking. I really don't want to have to sit at the PC launching flight after flight selecting each spot in turn. Typical example - Manchester is the nearest major airport IRL. I can't find a map showing the parking spots. Plenty of entries for where to park your car when going on holiday and how much that will cost, but nothing for showing …

Just heard that Dovetail at some near point, is going to release 64 bit with DX 11 support, thats all I know. I think it was called DFS, and is a continuation of the FSX code. Heard some about it on Frooglesim News on Youtube.
