Any helicopter pilots here? What are you flying in 2024?

Featured Replies

I've resurrected my HPG H145 to fly in MSFS 2024 and it seems to work well but it has a couple of issues and from what I gather Hype Performance Group was contracted by Asobo to provide the H225 for the deluxe edition so they've been neglecting their payware products to finish work on the H225 for SU3. Not exactly nice treatment of your paying customers, but I guess if MS comes knocking, you back up your Brinks truck for a trip to the bank. 🙂

What's a good helicopter in 2024?

BTW, I got a couple of new controls... a VKB joystick that you can take out the centering springs and it stays where you put it which makes for a nicer cyclic. And I've also just purchased this very cool collective which is affordable and top quality...  https://jpi3d.com/controls/  I highly recommend it. There's a video on YT that goes into great detail.

Hi there, just started my helli journey and going through the MSFS 2024 flight school activities. I have a Puma x flight control set up and awaiting my vr kit.  Any advice re best starter chopper to master would be much appreciated. I’m not sure who or where to by addons from.

Taog‘s Lama is my favorite.

You cant go wrong with Flyinside 206

I own, since 2020, the Flyinside Bell 47 and 206, the Nemeth Designs Schweizer S300CBi, the Cowan Simulations R66 and Bell 206B3.

I just noticed I also own the Taog's Hangar Lama !!! Bummer I had forgotten about that one and didn't even install it ...

I like the S300CBi and both Cowan's

I don't like the Flyinsides that much 😕

Will see the Lama ...

Helicopters in MSFS have to be used with parcimmony. The flight dynamics have evolved since FS 2020, but IMO they're still not to the level of a DCS UH-1H or CH-47.

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

I don't fly helicopters myself but the Taog's 500c has been getting good reviews and is, I think, the first native 2024 helicopter.

The Cowansim 500E is loads of fun. And of course for the more relaxed modern flying experience the HPG EC145 and EC165. Autotrim for the win!

My current top 4 (no particular order) are the Taog 500c, Taog Huey, Miltech MH60 and Miltech CH47.

I remember having fun with the 206 ln FSX. I’ll have to try helicopters again in 2024.

As I recall, I had the collective mapped to an axis on my throttle quadrant. What do you guys use?

I just got the Taog's 500c

Very well done. One of a few so far made for 2024.

More of a hands on Helo. So far, very happy with what I see, but just got it so only a couple of test flights.

Miltech MH60 looks good if looking for a more advanced Helicopter.

MSFS 2024 -Too many airplanes to name. Too many airports to name.

My #1 right now is definitely the Taog's Hanger 500c.  Native 2024 and a really good addon.  I'm not a real pilot, but those that are say it is a very good helicopter.  For me it is tricky to fly, but consistent.  Once I got the hang of it, it is really rewarding.

I've never tried the Flyinside stuff.  It was never on sale and I don't know if they are updating for 2024 or not.

I used to fly a lot of the Cowansim helos, but kind of waiting for 2024 updates.  They all port over ok, but have little issues.  They are planning on updating now that their big S76 is out (which I have not tried).

Right now, Taog's hanger is my favorite for 2024.  The older helos are not native 2020 but seem to work fine.  There's just something about the 500c that is just hard to beat though.  Makes me want to grow a moustache and fly around Hawaii.  🙂

Yep! My next heli buy:

100% on the Taog renditions here. Though I prefer the later Huey and the new native Cayuse/500 as they both have engine/gearbox damage model and that brings the helo fun a step further in 2024. Watch the Torque and the speed... its so easy to overspeed and then you get into trouble 😄 The older ones are nice too but missing some stuff. Imho if you jump on the Huey and the Cayuse you can't do anthing wrong in 2024. Very immersive and a real joy to fly.

Cowansim a have a few but the never lighted my fire. And the latest seems to have splitted the community into love and hate again also.

HPG I hear a lot good about the 145 and the missions pack but honestly they are too modern for me. I have the 160 as I found it interesting for VA use but never got really into it. And they have to work on 2024 support.

Flyinside... Loved the 206 and the 47 and they had their big time beginning of msfs2020 but they are actually grounded for me in 2024 as they are not using the helicopter controls due to the fact that they are internally build as aircraft category and from what I got its not easy to change and we'll have to wait looong for native ones if they ever come. Plus the current PR desaster around the Gazelle doesn't make me feel comfortable atm.

Cheers T.

Yup, if you see the chip detector warning you in the Huey, get on the ground quickly while you can still do so in a controlled manner!

Bought Taog's 500c this morning.  I am totally enjoying it compared to the other helicopters I have in 2024.  It flies beautifully and is pretty challenging to land, but I'm getting used to it every time I fire her up. This was a wise purchase for 2024 in my opinion.

Really beautiful cockpit and exterior.

I notice that helicopters don't employ "auto trim" like the planes do.  Is that correct and is there a setting to toggle it on?
