Start with an Orbx TrueEarth regional scenery. Click "install". BOOM - done!

IIRC, they have a free demo area of TE Great Britain South, and it's gorgeous.

Would be nice if we had a global true earth HD!

I am using SimHeaven and GF. You need to deactivate the forest-layer of all SimHeaven parts. I use the tool "xToolbox"  for these operations. Moreover in the "scenery_packs.ini" place the GF

Yes and the pro version is well worth the couple of quid/dollars for a months trial too.

Will I need to purchase the pro version for each computer? I run three external visuals with a server computer running the show.

That's not Global Forest, so I would imagine the vegetation will look different. I'm also thinking about disabling SimHaven #7 for forest and see the difference if any.

Hey Mike...I think you are supposed to disable SimHeaven #7 Forest entry when using Global Forest.  And also, the latest I read was Global Forest was best placed at the bottom of the Scenery.ini.  Seems to work fine for me....

I have no ideas to be honest. I would take a stab in the dark and say yes?

Thanks, I'll check it out. Maybe that's the reason for my shimmering trees.

Do they have a discord channel? UPDATE: I see they have no channel.

So it looks like $160.00 a year to run my flight deck, just for their algorithms... No thanks, Autoortho is good enough. Would be nice if the map enhancement tool had a pro version for those of us that run networked setup.

Disabled forest entries of X-WORLD, left GF entry where it is by default (seems ok), and no difference in performance. Still struggle to even fly at 36fps with Quest 2, I think it's beta6 definitely.
I disabled GF at the end, at least I can fly smoothly in VR. Will see the status from beta7.

EDIT: Just saw that GF entry must be BELOW X-World. Will test that now.

I'm seriously contemplating getting X-Plane 12, but I'm totally not looking forward to all this hassle to make the sim look good...

It is not a hassle at all. It is very interesting that this sim is open source and totally customizable. I find it satisying to learn new things. Installing add ons is as easy as extracting a zip file and putting that folder into an X-Plane folder. Super easy. You don't have to be a coder or programmer.

I would ease into. Setup hardware. Setup planes then casually upgrade the sim.

If you are coming from MSFS, the learning curve is super steep because you know what has to be done. But surprisingly, it is very easy and straightforward. Some setup elements and features are similar to MSFS which gets me wondering, who copied who?

You will be surprised at the speed at which the software boots and how robust and reliable it is.

Yes, but I don't use it in both XP11/12 since I fly in VR exclusively.

What does it mean to be a commercial member? I see commercial members on the forum but I never see them selling or promoting anything. What are the benefits to you? What is your product?

Commercial Member = Developer that sells the addons commercially. Not sure what are the benefits of that tag, if there's any. In my case, I'm the sound designer behind MD-80 Pro Cockpit Sound Immersion v1/v2 for Rotate MD80 Pro, and HotStart TBM 900 Cockpit Sound Immersion sound packages.
