Thinking maybe Global Forests Didn't download properly, I disabled it in Scenery_Packs.ini and turned on the forest layers in SimHeaven - the sim came alive with trees! XP12 is more beautiful than I have been seeing this past week! Trees were very thinly plotted on the terrain.
