IDK about yal but when it comes to weather I just go into Metar-taf.com and plug in the weather stations by hand. Doesn't take but like 5 minutes. I don't see the purpose of buying or relying on the weather engine

How much does it cost?

  • I am absolutely hoping for this.. imagine a flight sim where you could hop in and out of any vehicle without having to go to the main menu.. you could fly a heli, land on a field explore the world, th

  • I'm really tired of this argument. You don't want missions? Fine, just do your thing as you used to. No one calls DCS an arcade platform even though it has plenty of missions, so why say that about MS

Would I normally research some backwoods Aussie strip or where to go hot-air balloon in Africa?

Not criticising your post at all, @bonchie, but I saw that line and just wanted to say that this is pretty much exactly how I do use the sim. I either have areas where I know the scenery is simply amazing, or I'll look on the map (or Google Earth) and think - "that looks like it might be interesting", or maybe I'll see a new little airstrip available for sale or on flightsim.to. Pick a plane, whatever I feel like using, sometimes appropriate, sometimes not. Jump in and go exploring. Record a flight while sitting in the cockpit with all the waypoints and POI markers on, just following my nose. Then turn the markers off for the replay, where I will spend almost all the flight in outside views or paused and exploring with the drone cam - grabbing screenshots all the time. And not just in out of the way places - pick an interesting major airport, use a big tin tube, and have fun with GSX and explore the airport and surrounds with the drone. Sometimes I might even push back and take off, but I will hardly ever actually then do a "proper" flight. Mostly I'll just "esc" out of the sim after a couple of minutes. Arrivals are the same but in reverse (start the flight mid air a few miles out).

And then there are things like flying F-111s to Libya, taking Chinooks around SE Asia etc if I feel like using military aircraft. I recently did a mini-recreation of a Red Arrows display over my hometown on the day after their actual airshow.

This sim is already effectively packed with missions. And I've got to say I won't personally be bothered about using any specific missions in 2024, but it will be nice to have a whole new set of aircraft or facilities to just play around with on my own.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Looks good.  Half the fun of MSFS is doing your own weather.

I think it is too soon to conclude, but I feel the greenish tint from 2020 is gone in the 2024.

The MS/Asobo related presentations will be livestreamed and placed on their YT and other channels:
Saturday presentation on MSFS 2024: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6riRXgRsCU
Sunday presentation on MSFS marketplace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfA0NHuPlT8

I'd assume other major devs will also place their presentations and related info on their channels/forums/etc right after presenting at FSExpo.

FSElite is live streaming today's announcements seminar at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsuBNiyjtn4&list=TLGGWbWEEB8RTeYyMTA2MjAyNA

Unrelated to 2024, but Navigraph is also announcing something tonight at FSEXPO

Looking at those shots, msfs2024 makes msfs2020 looks like fsx.
