One of the devs explained this in a Q&A a while back, that it's very resource intensive to actually block the light correctly. 2024 has a completely new atmospheric engine, so maybe it will be corrected there. The clouds can be better because they were better (pre SU5 & 7), that's the disappointing thing for me, I care not for any other Flight Sim so when this one suffers regressions it's a step backwards that could've been avoided and that's exactly what happened with this Sim. October 16, 20232 yr What Asobo needs is to stop being stubborn! Third part is that developers can make the Flight Simulator better; they always have, and that is particularly true with the weather. They need to release or implement a good weather API so developers like HIFI can integrate their solutions with the SIM. MSFS 2020 is beautiful and has great physics, but the weather is just horrible. I have stopped flying on MFSF because of the weather. Asobo will be shooting themselves in the foot if they do not fix that in MSFS 2024.

October 16, 20232 yr I just wish MSFS had better clouds. They look awful a lot of the time. I mean, look at this, terrible. https://ibb.co/MBFrnGF

METAR is terminal weather report within 5 miles of the airport. Asobo has contract with meteo blue which fetches global weather data. I doubt meteo blue would be happy to share they paid services with 3rd party developers. All Asobo needs to do is to improve data exchange with meteo blue. The whether I'm getting in MSFS right now is fairy accurate to real world I fly. I understand not every part of the world can enjoy weather services that we have here in USA. So I see some people are frustrated . Neither HIFi nor REX ever represented weather realistically on a global scale, they we just true to terminal areas extrapolated to long distances flight sim addict, airplane owner, CFI
October 19, 20232 yr What I am missing in the wheather besides the poor quality of the clouds is turbulence in the clouds and aircraft light reflection. No matter how big is a strom cloud is, when you get into it you still have a smooth ride without any concequence...That ruins the feel... I am not a programming specialist, but I think that it is not a big deal to implement the turbulence in the clouds. If there is a default wheather radar that depicts the precipitations, why don't they add a code that in such areas there should be a turbulence depending on precipitation level? Something like that. Also, at night time the aircraft lights are not visible in the clouds, just with some minor exclusion. It also ruins the feel... But to be honest, I don;t believe that MFS2024 will change much... It is just a marketing and we will have the same 2020, just with some more features but same bugs.... They dumbed down the storm effects from the beginning (as admitted by Seb in an early Q&A), but I swear they later improved physical effects of going through clouds but that was well before they then added the Turbulence Sliders. Since then it seems going through clouds doesn't affect the aircraft as much, I have my slider on Realistic (or whenever the real option is). But as long as I remember there always was no turbulence in the clouds. That's what I've been desperately missing from the beginning of 2020...
