The other day when I flew on vatsim, i got cleared on the ILS approach via the arrival route. Before that clearance i got a descent to 5000 feet. And when I got cleared on the ILS I never recived any futher descent clearance even though the ILS started at 3000 feet. So does a ILS clearance via arrival route mean that you may descend with the glide path at own discretion or do you need to recive an explicit descent clearance also?

Hi, As we are getting into the colder part of the year, I thought I'd ask a question about deicing. So, in real life, when you are at an airport which requires you to perform on-stand deicing, should you tell ATC that you will be performing the on-stand deicing within the next couple of minutes, or would you just do it at your own discretion?

In the underlying link you will see a LNAV/VNAV approach on Skiathos (LGSK). What I don't understand is the fact that at the end of the approach the plane will leave the magenta line and moves to track 001 and that both the LNAV- and VNAV-knobs are activated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcGpbp52K01 Is there anyone who can explane to me how this is done. I'm wondering how you are meant to know which NADP that should be used for departure. I know that it usually says on the charts, but at an airport such as EKCH it only says: Noise Abatement Procedure No turns allowed Before: etc.... So should I assume NADP 2 should be used since that seems to be the normal one at which you accelerate and derate at the same time?

At an airport such as LGSM (Samos) there is a VOR and NDB approach heading straight towards the runway, which means that the last part is flown manually, so that you align with the runway. So, I'd assume ATC clears you for the VOR (or NDB) approach, but since they've cleared you for a VOR approach, are you still allowed to start flying the visual bit of the approach, or do you need to recive another clearance stating that you are cleared to start flying visually?

Hi, In the Boeing 737 I am aware of how to perform a Engine bleed off takeoff, and using APU bleed for the packs. Now just out of curiousity, I'm wondering if it would be possible to have ALL bleeds off (Engine bleeds and APU bleed) for departure and therefore obviously not using the packs. Or are there any systems other than the air conditioning that requires any type of bleed air, which would make it impossible to have all bleeds off? Thanks in advance

Hi, I've got a question regarding using the transponder on the ground. So, I am aware that in real life pilots usually tend to set their transponder to ALT RPTG OFF during taxi/pushback, and when they get onto the runway they set it to TA/RA. Now, my question is; when I flew to CPH, the ATIS said "squawk Charlie on push" which I assume means that you should set your transponder to "on" aka TA/RA or XPNDR. But if that is the case, why does just CPH (and maybe some other airports) have it differently than other airports, and if I would still set it to ALT RPTG OFF, would ATC ask me to go to squawk mode Charlie since that what it said in the ATIS? Hi Guys, I recently bought the PMDG 737 and after playing with it for a few days, I got this problem. I wanted to fly from OTHH( Hamad International Airport, Doha, I use TAXI2GATE scenery ) to OMDB ( Dubai International Airport, Dubai, I use FlyTampa scenery ), I tried entering in OTHH into the pos init page, but the plane says 'Not in database', so I then googled and found out that I need to update the planes nav data and downloaded navaids (navaids link: http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids3.html ) and updated all regions. But, still after doing this it didn't work, it still says 'Not in database'. Please help me in this, thank you for your help.

Hello, I have logged about 1200 hours in a (real) 182Q and Mooney 252, with about 150 hours of actual instrument time. I stopped flying for 10 years while my kids were little and will begin again soon in a 2008 T182T. I would like to assemble a home setup that accurately simulates IFR flight in the Cessna. I have tried this in the past and been disappointed with the results: specifically, I couldn't trim the plane to fly an approach realistically, as the altitude and airspeed would oscillate wildly with small trim changes as if the plane had no inertia. Hi, When do you use autoland for during a landing? I know that the 737 needs to autoland when the visibility is 200m, but what is the visibility is for example 400m? Would you still autoland then even though it's not at the minimums of 200m? Thanks in advance

Hi Guys, I recently bought the PMDG 737 NGX base pack after a lot of research. My first flight went perfectly fine ( my learning flight ), during my second flight( always load in long panel state ), I went to the external view and came back to the virtual cockpit view, I couldn't press any buttons, the buttons did not respond to my mouse clicks. I don't use any add-on camera software ( EZ dok...,etc ), I tried re-running the Simconnect.msi Programmes ( but still nothing worked ). This happens in the default PMDG liveries too and also my add-on liveries too. Please help me in this, I have waited so Long to fly the beautiful PMDG 737, thank you for your help:)

Hi, Recently I discovered that when the temperature is below 10 degress, GSX tells you to start engines after the pushback is completed due to icing contiditons. So my question is, do they not start engines until after pushback if icing conditions are present in real life? And if so, why is that? I don't understand how it can make any difference if you start the engines during pushback, or after the pushback. Thanks in advance

This an issue that has been explored before but a long time ago and with no solution, ie... http://www.avsim.com/topic/63846-acceleration-autopilot-problem/ So, I'm using FSX SE and have the same issue in every plane. When going above about 22,000 feet using autopilot, and using any acceleration above 4X, the plane begins to violently go up and down a few thousand feet. I thought it could be the acceleration pack that steam edition comes with but I have the disk version with acceleration and have never had this problem. I'm hoping there's a simple solution solution to the nagging issue because it makes full flights impossible because of time restrictions. Thanks in ad…

Hi Jim, thank you for the welcome. After a hectic weekend at family wedding back to normality. After a flying career on helicopters in the Royal Navy i took up flight sim on Microsoft 2000, flying all scenarios and a box load of add ons. Now having just purchased a Mac OS X El Capitan, those programmes are not for this machine so thought buy X plane 10 Global, after seeing you tube videos with all the attendances of push back cargo loading and flight services great, loaded up all discs but the free add on would not load. Hi I'm wondering if you have to include aircraft type on your initial contact with ATC during approach and on ground (Approach controller and Delivery), or if you only need to do that if specified in the ATIS. I'm quite certain that you always need to do it in the UK, but my question is regarding the rest of Europe. Now, the reason that made me think about this was because the other day when I flew with ATC, I did not include my aircraft type in my request for clearance to delivery, since it didn't say in the ATIS. But the ATC then asked me to tell him my aircraft type even though it did not say anything in the ATIS or on the Charts. So this made me wonder how it …

Hello All, I've just encountered a problem with the view hotkeys in FSX after installing the Aerosoft A320 family. The F9-F11 keys no longer switch the views in other aircraft. The only functioning view hotkey is F12. I've already tried changing the key assignments in the controls tab in the settings but that did not seem to work. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

I am a relatively new member. First I hope I am posting in the correct Forum - let me know if I am not. My question is - I am tempted to try out the Friday Harbor and the Victoria/San Juan Islands FSX Scenery in the AVSIM Library but I would like to know if it will be compatible with FSX-SE? Hi to everybody This is my first post to this forum and I am seeking some help/advice with regards to a new computer and operating system. I do not consider myself a ‘gamer’ but I do like MS flight simulators. I currently have FS 2002 & FSX Standard. I did have FS 2004, which I let a grandson have, but a disc got damaged and I did not bother to replace it. I also have British Airports and VFR Scenery for most of the UK. just installed UTX USA . the files show up in the settings\scenery library\addon scenery drop down memory 1 to 11. But there is no change in the ground appearance any place in the USA. FSX STEAM, from discs, Win10. * have a high end video card , processor and tons of memory. My son who runs SYSTRONIX built it for me to run FSX. frame rates are mostly 40 to 50+/sec. I think the card is MSI GEFORCE GTX 950 DirectX 12GTX 950 GAMING 2G 2GB 128 Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 X 16 HDCP etc. any ideas about what is wrong ?

Hello all! I've been a long time lurker on avsim and decided it was finally time for me to check in with the community. I've been simming for a few years now. Always enjoy it. Started out with just default FSX aircraft... then discovered the great world of payware add-on aircraft. That has been quite unhealthy for my wallet For the past while, I had been swimming using my laptop -- a MacBook Pro 2015 with the dual core i5 and iris graphics.
