WIN8 OS Forum

As simmers experiment with and adopt WIN8, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

  1. I am so glad I didn't upgrade to this fiasco: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/30/start-button-officially-returning-with-windows-81 You can upgrade to Windows 8.1 or just stay with Windows 7, I think I will just stay with Windows 7

Morning Captains!! I've got a problem with my FSX textures by night. When i'm placing my plane (PMDG 737) on airport by night i discover that my taxiways and buildings textures are missing - they are grey. On daytime the textures are fine. I suppose that this problem is connected with DX10Prview but when i've unchecked that option on my FSX configuration site, i'm not able to flight because my airplane is incomplete - HUD deactivated and other things. I'll be greatfull for help.

FSX Windows 8 will not install. fix. go to the right side of your screen and go to your search menu. type "cmd". go to your apps. right click on your on the command prompt. run as administrator. at your main windows drive the command prompt should say "c:\windows\system32>. then type-net user administrator /active:yes . should look like this "c:\windows\system32>net user administrator /active:yes. this will enable the hidden administrator that is turned off by default. then run fsx and install. try this link if you need help. DO NOT OPEN REGEDIT AND CHANGE ANYTHING IN THERE. just install disk and run. http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...ndows-8-a.html

I have Windows 8 so I'm posting this here, I don't know where else to post it here. This all started when I downloaded an FS file with a .rar extension and I needed an application to unpack the .rar file. I got unwanted adds whenever I used IE, and found an add blocker that seemed to fix that problem. Somehow, now, I have a trojan horse infection that makes a screen lock when I start up Windows and gives me some garbage about having to pay a ransom. I can't get to any other screen on the PC to run Malware and/or my anti-virus scanner, bit on a Mac I have at home I went on-line and goggled it. I found a site (bleepingcomputer.com) with an an app called Hitman.pro …

  6. Hi, It was like I liberated three of my four CPUs today: I casually decided to delete all the cruft 32-bit Java had been installing on my Windows 8.1 system.... and lo and behold! The whole thing literally feels like it's running 4x as fast! Someone please kill Oracle, and Java, permanently, please? Every time Java updates, it defaults itself to storing "gotcha crap" on your computer. Yet another chore to remember. Computer slow? Delete all the crap Java stores on your system! In Control Panel. Hope that helps someone like it did me, today.

Hi, I've noticed while trying to understand an odd intermittency error I run into with the Milviz F15E on Win8.1 which has been generating streams of c0000005 errors (application hang, out of memory basically) without crashing FSX, that there is key in the registry under WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatibilityFlag\Layers including the above command to FSX. I'm assuming this key tells FSX to not release that DirectX sound .dll when a FreeLibrary command is issued by the program, I theorize to solve compatibility with something that crashes if it is released. Can I safely delete this key? Just Export it first, and then Import it if it messes up FSX by being ab…

I just got a Windows update message reminding me that support for WXP is about to end. My current *flying * computer is W7, but this *internet* pc is XP. What if I do nothing? What are the risks? If I really must abandon XP should I get W7 or W8.1 for strictly internet usage. FSX will never be installed so that's not a concern. Thanks! Bruce

Am I the only one who is unable to run FSX in full screen mode with ANY addons? I cannot start any addons without my PC going into windowed mode automatically. When I press alt+enter, I get a black screen, or I am able to interact with the add on but not FSX. In windowed mode everything works perfectly. I played with my graphics card (gpu and cuda) options but nothing is working. It's simply annoying. For instance, FSCopilot uses a radio tool. I am able to use the tool, but the moment I click on anything within FSX, the radio tool disappears behind the window. I am using a single screen as of now and applied single screen settings in my Nvidia settings but it didn…

  13. ...how to go back to windows 7. I loathe windows 8 and want, need to go back to windows 7. I've read some places that its kind of pain in the rear to "downgrade" back to 7, however. I have windows 8 pro and just picked up a copy of windows 7 home premium. I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I was planning on backing up all my fsx gear and just starting from scratch. I also found this youtube video, what do you guys think? Is it this easy? THANKS!

I'm not sure if this is strictly a Win 8 topic or not..... but I couldn't see anywhere else here to post this. I am running Win 8.0, have yet to upgrade to Win 8.1 and don't know yet if that would fix this issue or not. I recently downloaded an addon for X-plane (nothing against that sim, I use it often, as I do FSX/P3D), and fell into a trap where I saw a big green "download" button, which downloaded not the file I wanted (that was a link in small letters), but the download app iLivid, and without realizing it installed it on my system (still thinking this was the download that I wanted). I posted to the CNet forums yesterday about an issue I'm having, and I'm …

  16. My problem is a bit different than the selective suspend option, I have it turned off, and I still get the occasional turn off, and it often seems that doing anything in another monitor, or selecting a program outside of fsx causes this, but not all the time. I was wondering if there was a 100% surefire way of getting the joystick to cut out? Or is it random with everyone else?

Hi! Just bought a new computer and is trying to install the FSX (Gold) in Windows 8.1. I have tried to install in a new folder directly under C: as many recommend but only the fonts get there, the other folders will be spread all over in the Program Files folder and Program Files (X86) instead. Even tried once the default recommendations from the DVD, but the same there, only the fonts get in to the Program Files (X86)\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator X. The rest is spread all overt the Program Files (X86) folder. I have administrators permissions but there is actually no chance to "Install as an administrator" when I start the install-program from the DVD, or do…

Today I got the Samsung 840 Evo 250GB. I am starting the move from the old tech (HDD) and moving towards the better, FASTER technology. I have been looking around for good deals on Windows 7 - I then thought, how about Windows 8.1. I love Windows 7, but I want something 'new'. I bought the SSD primarily for FSX and P3D v2 (when I get it). How does FSX/P3D run on Windows 8.1 compare to them running on Windows 7?

Hey gang, I've been trying to install my fsx copy on my brand new system which has 8.1 as its main operating system but without success. I'm getting a gfxhelper error right at the end of the installation. I tried installing it in windows 7 compatibility mode, but that didn't help at all. I'm lost here, and could use some assistance. Thanks in advance for your time. Ami.

I've had nothing but problems using Windows 8. I'm curious, is there anyone who has Windows 8 and if so, can you share your experiences ? I've had enough and will have my operating system changed over to Windows7. My computer is eleven months old , I have Windows 7 Home Premium on my shelf, but I can't remember if it was ever used . If it has been used on another computer in the past would I be able to use it on this computer ?

I am plauged by the Windows 8 joystick issue. FSUIPC dosn't recognise my Saitek axis so I cannot registered it through FSUIPC. Is the joystick problem in Win7, or it only in Win8? Many thanks.

I have FS9 running under Windows 8, installed as follows: C:\ Flight sims\FS9. It's is running smoothly at 60 fps. I want to make some changes in the FS9 config file, but I don't see the typical path for accessing the config file, ie; Users...(Name)....AppData....Microsoft....FS9. Honestly, I have forgotten if there are hidden files involved, or other changes needed to get to the FS9 config. Can someone refresh me on how to get into the config file?

  25. This is serious! I have been trying to get Windows 8.1 to co-operate with me with recognizing my RevoDrive X2 (not 3 X2) and it is a no-go in every way. So far I have not been able to go back to Windows 7 Home Premium no matter what I do. Any info on the internet has not helped me whatsoever. This is most disappointing. It has been weeks now and I am getting frustrated! Kind regards,
