WIN8 OS Forum

As simmers experiment with and adopt WIN8, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

  1. Started by Russ K,

I installed FSX and it worked. I had an issue with Outlook 2013 and iCloud. It locked up my Outlook so it didn't work and I couldn't even uninstall it. I did a "Restore to factory settings" on the computer. Now when I try to reinstall FSX when it reaches near the end of disk 2 it stops and says there's an error with the windows installer. Any suggestions?

Did any body try the final bits of 8.1 RTM with FSX? does it have the same problems of Win 8.1 Preview with FSX?

Just after touchdown, my FS9 suddenly lost the sounds and later, it closes. Any idea? I'm having this problem for a month

Has anyone tried using fscaptain on windows 8? Everything seems to be working but I cant hear any of the sounds. Im having no issues so far with windows 8 and it seams run run fsx great. I just cant get any sounds from fscaptain.

  5. Being sustainedly paranoid about the many glorious ways Windows can go mad, I am sensitive to complex assemblies like .NET corrupting, thus creating endless mysteries in performance and massive entries in the Event Viewer logs. Perhaps well-known to others, but on Win8 at least (maybe Win7, too?), I FINALLY discovered a way to "fix" .NET without getting confused by the MS NetfxRepair tool (which always goes half-way, only to then inform you you should reinstall the version of .NET if you are still having problems, which, of course, you never can tell.... and there's no further info on how to do....). It's not in Uninstall programs, but: you simply have to UN-tic…

To all that may be bashing Windows 8, I thought I would report my findings. I am running FS9 on a Win 8 64 bit system. AMD FX2 processor, Radeon 4800, Gigabit mainboard with 4 gb ram. I did run into the GDI not showing the aircraft previews, but I found that was only in full screen. If you go to a windowed mode, all is well. Works like a charm. I have for extras the PMDG 747, PSS 777 and 757, Level--d 767, and the WIlco airbus series 1 and 2 with the evolution upgrades. All is working fine. Including the PSS and wilco radar. So far all my payware scenery is working fine. I have also installed FSBuild and HiFi's ActiveSky Evolution and Active Sky Graphics. Pretty much the …

I figured out why joysipticks keep cutting out it essentially has to do with the windows 8 power settings, and something called selective suspend. Now I will disable this, and every now and then, I'll come back to fly, after awhile, only to find that the settings have been changed back to power saver. I have noticed that certain other things will not save occasionally when you turn off the computer and turn it off and back on. This is driving me nuts, how do I stop this auto reset of my settings?

I would like to return to FS after many years on hiatus. I used to be on FS2004 with gigs of addons. I have recently built a new computer that uses Win8 64bit. Before I buy FSX, I've been doing a lot of research and finding a lot of reported issues with this config. Everything from cannot install, cannot register, to frequent crashes. What are the chances I will be able to install FSX and successfully be able to use it? Is it just a matter of working through some issues that can be fixed or worked around, or is there a very good chance that I just won't be able to install or run it in a stable environment. Thanks very much for input. Tim

Has anyone had any luck installing PFE on windows 8? The program installs but when I go to launch PFE it acts like it does nothing but appviewer shows an immediate crash. I have tried all of the different operating system modes and no luck. I am usually good at figuring these things out but this time I am stuck.

WIN8 Has Blocked a Program and Won't Run It I have a friend who has WIN8. I sent him a program that works fine in Windows 7 with no viruses. He tries running it and gets an Error that Windows has blocked the file as it is a suspicious and won't run it. Is there any way to override the WIN8 security feature. I have an option run this program as administrator. He does not get that option. He does get the option to run as Administrator on other exe programs. Please help. Bob.

  11. Everytime I try to use my "V" key it tells me it cannot capture the image? What program can I use that's already installed in Windows 8 64 that I can use to capture images, say via print screen and using Paint,as I did in win7 32? and the "v" key Works there. Berlopez

  12. I'm trying to decide which OS I should choose for my new buid dedicated to FSX (and other flightsims) and games. I see three alterntive 1) Win 8 OEM 2) Win 7 OEM 3)Win 7 retail Because of the license term for the Win 8 OEM it's my favorite sofar. But what issues will I have and can they be resolved or worked around. It's a must that my FSX set will function in Win 8 if I'm going to buy it. So what issues are there ? I have heard of two 1) Loosing joystick connection when switching to another windows. But my impression i that working solution exist with FSUIPC, Or ? 2) The EZdok addon not working good in FSX. TRue ? Whats the problem. What can be done ? I …

I have serious problems getting Radar Contact to work properly under Win8 (in Win7 I had no probs at all). Symptoms: When RC issues a command to me, FSX freezes for about 30 seconds (not every time, but most of the times). There is one way to get rid of that - but it's of course no solution: When you click and hold your left mouse button on the RC window while FSX is frozen, the freeze is immediately gone, but only as long as you release the mouse button. Anyone else experienced that and is there a solution to this problem? Best, Bernhard

Today, I installed the Windows 8.1 preview. My excitement for all of the cool new features was cut short upon starting FSX. Several seconds in, FSX threw a fatal error, a G3D.dll error. I use FSUIPC, which I understand normally fixes this error, so this is not a fix in this case. A friend tried running a clean install of FSX and had the same problem. Has anyone else installed 8.1 and found a fix for this error? I use this computer as a development machine and must run FSX fairly frequently to test add-ons, etc, so if I don't have a fix soon, I will have to do a clean install of the RTM Windows 8. In case it is of any use, here is the log from Event Viewer: Faultin…

Sorry if this has been asked before but searching the forum for "windows 8" turned up 20 bazillion threads that seemed to have nothing to do with running FSX in windows 8. Basically I'm just curious what the known issues are with FSX and/or addons? I did see in the Win8 forum something about joystick issues and they can be fixed with FSUIPC. So I'm more concerned about are there other issues with FSX itself, what about addons like OrbX scenery (guessing no on that), or things like REX or more advanced aircraft like the 737 NGX? I'm building a new system soon and debating whether to install the $39 special of Win8 Pro Upgrade that I bought at the end of last year. I w…

I've just re-installed FSX in windows 8 and I'm having the following problem. I have 2 monitors and when I run them full screen the main monitor is stretched half way across the 2nd, or sometimes it is squished into the top right quadrant. It don't work like it did in 7! I can run windowed but the mere fact that it dosen't work is giving me major stress ;-) I know my Nvidia control panel is set right and my choices in FSX are correct. Anyone had any experience of this? (i've tried compatability mode and running as admin btw) Ta Jim i5-750 @3.8Ghz 8 gb 1600 ddr whatever GTX 460 one 1920x1080 monitor one 1280x1024 monitor

  23. Hi everyone, I am a complete Newbie to the AVSIM forums. The main reason I am here is, because I heard that it is the best place to find solutions for FSX Issues. I recently bought a new Notebook PC (i5@ 2,6GHz; 6GB RAM; Nvidia GeForce 740M nd Win 8 :-( ). Although I am thoroughly impressed with the new machine, FSX has started somehow clashing with WIN8. After FSX and the Acceleration expansion pack FSX worked perfectly for a couple of weeks. Now all of a sudden, upon running FSX I get an error message mentioning something with the Side by Side Configuration: "The application could not be executed because of an invalid Side-by-Side configuration." A scree…

I can't believe MS is seriously trying to sell this crap. With their "W8 success " I think this MS is about to go tits up. I just purchased a new laptop for my wife and spent 2 days playing with it....OMFG I'm taking it back tomorrow. if this is a sign of things to come I don't think we will ever see any flight simulator products from MS ever again. Somebody shoot this dog.
