Hi Windows 8 users. I have a quick question before I take the plunge and upgrade my FSX computer to Windows 8. I have already installed Windows 8 on another computer, and am quite fond of it (unlike some other people, who seem to hate it ) and my question was, is it possible to *upgrade* (i.e. NOT a clean install) Windows 8 over Windows 7? Will my FSX stuff be OK? Literally all I have is FSX, and a couple of aircraft addons. Thanks in advance. B)

So, it's kind of hard to explain but I heard this was the best place for support, so here we go: My FSX loads up fine, it allowed to select my settings and everything with no problem at all. However as soon as I actually finish loading the flight I am greeted with a frozen picture of the virtual cockpit. I can hear the engines running, the wind and everything. But the picture just does not move! I ran FSX on Windows 7 with no problem at all, but if you know how to fix this on Windows 8 I would be most grateful. I am happy to use TeamViewer to solve this problem. I have already tried putting the UIautomationcore.dll in my Flight Simulator X folder with no effec…

Hi, so far all of my FSX addons seem to work with Win 8. With one exception: AES. Right after the installation I was able to start the AESHelp application but the jetways did not show up in FSX. Now AESHelp does not even start anymore. All I see is the "Loading..." screen and then the program closes. I tried several compatibility settings but unfortunately that didn't help either. Now I'm wondering whether I made something wrong or if AES is just not Win 8 compatible. So I would really like to know if someone of you got AES to work under Wind 8? Thanks and Greetings Tim

Okay, I don't know if what I'm doing here is wrong, but I don't want to hijack someone else's thread for a similar issue. First, I'll start with some specs. The joystick I have connected is an Xtreme 3D Pro, by Logitech. I am running Windows 8 I have a dual monitor setup. I have the following mods installed to FSX: FSRecorder GSX FSPassengers Now to the problem. My issue was bought up in this thread The poster too has a dual monitor setup and whenever they click onto another window, the Joystick just randomly disconnects from FS. It still won't show up even after unplugging and re-plugging. The only way to "fix" is to restart FS. This whole time, …

Got my Win 8 machine running today. Have a Samsung 840 Pro SSD installed as the second drive. Started to install FSX but it went directly to the "c" drive without giving me a chance to change the install path to the Samsung SSD. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, Jim Driskell

Hey all, I recently installed FSX on my new computer with a radeon 7870 2gb. The FPS I am getting are decent at normal airports (30-60) and a whopping 9-10 fps at JFK. This is stock, no upgrades at all with medium - medium high settings. Based on my PC stats, I was hoping to run fsX with many addons, but at the moment it appears this will not be feasable. Before I do anything else, the blurries, noticable at all distances, need to be fixed. Even when the frames are in the high 60s, the blurries create a wave-like illusion of 10 fps. I have tried everybodys advice using the CCC, but with Windows 8 the majority of the options are no longer there. Likewise, you on…

Morning, Spent most of the evening while sitting here re-installing FSX on my new Asus 76GV....anyway, I unistalled it after a rash of unexpected fatal errors occured. After installing everything, discovered that anytime I bring the knee board up in any model, FSX crashes. Is this some sort of compatability issue with Win8 or is something else going on. As long as I don't bring up the knee board, everything hums along fine. Thanks, Mark Mark

I was going to put this info in the joystick thread, but then I realized that the post might get buried. MS has disabled F8 and Shift-F8 options at start up to enter safe mode. It was probably a security concern, reached by the same logic is not allowing the user to completely disable UAC, which limits the use of certain programs at OS start up. Anyway ..., if either your video card fails or you bork the OS with a corrupt video card driver installation (FSX users are always playing around with drivers), chances are you will eventually get into Win 8's recover and repair modes (depending on how new your motherboard is), which can literally lead to hours of frustration and…

Hello, Guys! I'm tired to see that Flight Simulator X always stuck in Windows 8. This is quite bad that Microsoft that they are unable to fix the bugs of Windows 8. Same FSX drive very well on Windows 7 but not on Windows 8. I changed the FSX's compatibility to Windows 7 but FSX still doing same thing. I don't know why? What compatibility mean? Is that mean, if you change software Compatibly to any other Windows then that software will run in that Windows. But it doesn't happen for me. If any one see my error then tell me how to change FSX's compatibility to Windows 7 in Windows 8. If you know any other solution, then please tell me. I don't want to remove Windows 8. …

Hello, I know that this may have been asked multiple times, however I am curious. Currently, I am running Windows 7 64-bit and I am currently getting decent performance out of FSX with medium high settings. I have been reading about the benefits of Windows 8 in terms of being a better system resource handler than Windows 7 currently does, so as a result I am very interesting into upgrading to the next version of Windows as soon as I upgrade my computer's RAM memory capacity. As a result of this prospect, I would like to answer the following questions. Does FSX in Windows 8 behaves in the same way as in Windows 7? Are there any installation problems that I should b…

A couple of programs used in FSX no longer work when I upgrade Windows. MRAI Compiler ceased working when I went from Vista to Windows 7. I spent many hours on the net searching for help using the error message generated, but to no avail. ModelConverterX (MCX) ceased working when I went from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I can not return to Windows 7 because it does not make use of all of my installed RAM. When I try to load a .dae model into MCX, I get exception messages and the model does not load. When I check the event log, it says that the triangles in the model are discarded because they do not contain any area. Any help with either of these problems …

I am looking for help with software issues. It seems that every time I upgrade Windows, one or more of the custom FS software no longer works. When I upgraded to Windows 7, MRAI compiler stopped working. Despite several hours searching for an answer, I was not able to fix the software and no longer can use it. When I try to use MRAI Compiler, I get error messages saying that a file is missing/unregistered. Now, I have upgraded to Windows 8. I needed to do this because of Windows 7 would not have used all my installed RAM. Unfortunately, ModelConverterX no longer works in Windows 8. I always get an error message when I try to convert .dae files to .mdl f…

I purchased a new rig on Boxing Day and it came with Windows 8. I wanted to take advantage of 64 bit processing and reduced CTDs. I was running a rig with duo cores and 4 GB of ram and a 500 MB graphics card. As the addons increased in complexity, my CTDs were fairly common. I was running XP 32 bit. I spent 3 weeks installing FS9, and all the addons. I turned off UAC, made FS9 an administrator, and followed Windows 7 FAQs in getting things set up. After some testing with default aircraft, it was time to return to flying. To my surprise, the iFly 737 does NOT run under Windows 8. Frustration number 1. This was confirmed on the iFly support forums. …

I have a newly installed Windows 8/64 (Pro) and a new instance of FSX, it has been running for several days now with no issues, until tonight when I encountered both the "missing controller" issue and a CTD. I had just installed a third party Start menu ( Classic Shell). I wonder how many of us that are having issues also have a Start menu app installed into Win8? In my case, I got sick of having to use File Explorer to go find installed executables that have shortcuts installed to the Start menu. I have my controller axes and buttons assigned in FSUIPC (registered), Thanks, Bruce.

With Windows 7 we had to install FS9 and FSX using a procedure that was not like installing them on to other Windows platform.you know like creating a folder outside of the MSGame folder and installing it there. So with that in mind does installing the above programs in to W8 require something different than place the disk in to the DVD drive and click away. Thanks Randy

Hi, I have a clean install of FSX on a new W8 machine. It runs nicely. But, after changing some values in the fsx.cfg and when I start FSX I immediately get the message FSX cannot write to the FSX.CFG file (which I have just changed) and stops. I never had this problem before and obviously it has to do with Administrator rights. But I am the only user and hence I AM the Administrator. As far as I can see, the file's security settings are ok, but 1 out of 2 times FSX cannot write and the only solution is to copy a backup copy back into the appropriate directory. Any ideas how to prevent these lock-ups? Thanks, Menno

I did a fresh install of FS9 on a new machine. All my add ons, payware and freeware seem to work so far. The only issue that I have a problem with is Edit Voice Pack. When I try to install or execute, windows is telling me I need a version of .Net. I would have assumed that windows 8 would have had that covered. Anyone have similar issues or any potential solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hello! I installed Windows 8 a couple of weeks ago and today i decided to try FSX (SP1 and SP2) togheter with a couple of addons (PMDG, REX). Before i upgraded to Windows 8 I used Windows 7 along with many others, and I was pretty happy playing FSX on a Windows 7 machine. FSX ran good on my computer and the simulator was pretty realible aslong as you didnt hit alt+tab or alt+enter while flying - in my case that would cause a crash in 40% of the times. I have only tested FSX for + an hour, which really isnt much at all, but i can already say that some parts of FSX works better whit Windows 8 than Windows 7. For ex alt+tab or alt+enter has not made my simulator …
