DX-10 Discussions, Hints and Help

Interested in getting DX10 Technology working properly in FSX | FSX-SE?  This forum is for general discussion of how to get DX10 working properly and settings.

  1. So I decided to upgrade my ATI 6770 to a GTX 660ti. After the install, driver upgrade, etc I went to check out FSX. I no longer have the ability to see the DX10 preview. I tried deleting the fsx.cfg and made sure that I removed the ATI drivers before installing the new card. I had been running the DX10 with the 6770 with great results as long as I didn't run any weather. Weather now is no problem I just want my DX10 back. John

    Hi all, Looking to change over to DX10 using the fixes etc that are available here, including Steve's scenery fixer. In DX9 mode I can set two different screen resolutions in the fsx settings page, I have one that's 1980x1080 and the other is a smaller 19 inch screen. Sometimes I like to fly with one in VC and the other showing "Spot views". However when I went to DX10 Preview mode I only see a box for one screen resolution setting. Can I only use fsx in DX10 mode with one screen or is there a fix or maybe something else to get two screens working again. Going to spend some time over the next few days working the fixes etc etc to get DX10 working properly…

    Goodday gents, Since a couple of weeks my poor FSX suffers from really bad stuttering that i have never seen before. That is, with DX10 only ! I have been using DX10 with great satisfaction ever since Steve's DX10 fix came about (the freeware version). Didn't give me not only much nicer views but also a huge difference in fps and smoothness compared to DX9. Never been happier with my FSX performance. I'm not 100% sure but it looks like this mysterious stutter doesn't have anything to do with my FSX settings but possibly rather with my system although i see it only with FSX, not with other, graphically demanding, sims that i play, like Railworks (TS2014) or Eur…

    Anybody else try Shade in DX10? I spent a few hours flying with it last night and trying out the different presets. It looks amazing in DX10 with bloom enabled. It makes the sim so much more atmospheric. The sky colors at dusk and dawn are BEAUTIFUL!

  10. Hi guys, I think my Fixer is not installed or doesn't work properly as before. I formatted my pc, reinstalled FSX and Fixer (last installer) following all the steps required. Apparently seems all works fine but I have a great doubt it doesn't working properly because I have no shadows in VC (before formatting shadows are evident), especially in default c172. Specific tick box or shadows is checked. How can I verify if it's installed properly? Do you suggest to delete Shader10 cache? Or reinstall from scratch?

    I recently purchased this oh-so sweet tool but sort of feel like I may not be getting the most of it. I read through the manual but still am unsure as to what I need to do with my NI settings along with my cfg file. Hopefully someone with a little more experience could give me a couple pointers? 12. Hi all, I've been using fsx for about four years on my i3 Windows 7x64bit system, with a Radeon 5770 card with two monitor outputs, up to now in DX9 mode and everything has run as smooth as silk, I'm very happy with it. However after buying the PMDG 777 and trying to fly EGBB to OMDB a number of times, I've started seeing OOM errors on approach or indeed on touchdown. I've tried flying OMDB to EGBB too and the same thing. Now both scenery's are addon's, UK2000 and FlyTampa respectively, but I have flown to default Auckland and default Boeing field without a problem, using this aircraft! I don't get these errors with any other aircraft, PMDG, A2A, Quality WIngs, Aeroso…

    ...The frames, that is... So I've done a vanilla OS, overclock, and fsx install with DX10. Tweaked and tuned as per the latest hardware/software guide, and other articles by PJ. It runs like a dream, without a stutter in the world. That is until today, while doing some test flights in default Seattle.. Flying various default aircraft, I would circle the downtown area several times, with frames locked and holding at 30, then head away from the city, turn around and repeat. On the second or third time doing this, my frames began to plunge. First to about 25-27, and then with each pass and circle, down even further, sometimes jumping down to 12-18. I can fly away…

    Hi. Not really the proper place, but because it is picture based, I thought I'd shoot this here. I just did a fresh install of everything, and my Milton Shupe Beech 18 VC panel has a MSFS overlay all of a sudden. Running DX10 (worked fine before). Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?? Thanks ;;

  15. Hello everybody, I decided to give FSX a try again because of the pmdg 777, DX10 fixer, REX and all the other high quality addons. Also got a Nvidia 680 so i can use the inspector now! So I did a clean install with acceleration. I then followed the guide found on Avsim. Added a couple tweaks, set up nvidia inspector, and did the DX10 fix. My FPS is amazing, BUT there is yet again another problem with FSX! There are black squares everywhere over my scenery! I think this has to do with DX10, but ill post the screens below and let you have a look. Thanks!

  16. Hello fellow DX10 users! I thought I'd post here first to see if any of you have the same scenery problem. I don't think it's an issue with DX10 but I can't get rid of the problem and know there are more tech savvy around on this forum! See pix below. In the first pic I have this odd line and cut-off scenery in the water (this is above Dubrovnik in Croatia). I'm using UTX, FTX Global in DX10 mode. I can't get rid of this line or scenery cutoff despite shuffling the scenery priority around. The other problem is - with UTX ENABLED - Dubrovnik disappears! The second pic shows what happens when I disable UTX. Dubrovnik reappears but the white line and cutoff scene…

    A feature of DX10 preview which I find particularly annoying is the brightness of automobile headlights. At night it is only slightly annoying but when you see them in the day it's just too much, especially when an addon has a parking lot full of static cars and trucks which creates a mass of twinkling bright white pixels in the far distance as you approach. So I ask: is there any way to control the headlamp brightness? BTW I usually have car traffic set to zero, and thanks for reading.

    To my amazement the manual of the DX10 Fixer doesn't even MENTION nVidia Inspector...! A lot if people (if not everyone?) use Inspector to take care of FSAA. Right now I have FSAA working perfectly fine in FSX with DX10 thanks to the 'old' guide and nVidia Inspector. I had a look at the options in the DX10 Fixer but the FSAA I use right now (4xS) isn't even available as an option in the Fixer. Furthermore I also use 4xSGSS because without it things look absolutely awful (shimmering cockpits). To my huge disappointment I read in the manual that the performance improving trick to let the clouds not be antialiased does NOT work when you use SGSS... BUMMER! Now I was thin…

    I am running the free version of DX10 that it is available here in the library and I was wondering if DX10 has a problem with running DXT5 (compressed) clouds? Every time I install clouds from AS2012 graphics and they are of the DXT5 format I get untextured clouds. If I install the 32bit everything runs fine except my FPS take a dive. Are DXT5 vs 32bit much different in terms of FPS for the sim? How come DXT5 clouds don't render correctly if at all? Thanks

  21. The title pretty much sums it up. I have a modern system (Ill give the complete specs below) and I honestly think I should be running better than I am. I have tried several help guides, including doing the online FSX.cfg configurator to no avail. I have been running ok in DX9 (24-28fps with frames locked in the PNW area (ORBX)), but performance has dropped a bit more once I made the switch to DX10 (14-19 in the same area with same settings). I also cannot seem to get the AA working to anywhere near the screenshots that I have seen. Any ideas? 22. I thought I was having issues with DX10 AA not working but I shut off sweet fx by accident and the AA was perfect. I tired changing settings in sweetfx but nothing made the jaged edges go away when sweet fx was enabled. It not only effected text in the VC but also on the menus. Im running sweetfx1.4 anyone else having this issue? and just an FYI lumasharpen is off as I know it causes bad edges!

    I'm not sure why, but I started trying to get the best possible image (relative to AA) using DX10. The best I could come up with visually (pretty close to shimmer/jaggy free) is the following (ignoring fps for the moment): nVidia Inspector Antialiasing - Setting: 4x4 [4x4 Supersampling (D3D only)] Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling: 8x Sparse Grid Supersampling [GRAPHICS] MultiSampleQuality=4 MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 [DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce GTX TITAN.0.0] Mode=2560x1600x32 Anisotropic=1 AntiAlias=1 It's important to note that MultiSamplesPerPixel and Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling should match each other. I used NI a few years ago but had CTD quite often. The settings werent much different then the ones set in the NVidia control panel. I heard the older version was more buggier then the current. I run DX10 now and have most of the recommended tweaks in my FSX.cfg. I also have the DX10 fixer. Is it worth going with the NI. I run an older NVidia 470 with okay fps's and use a OKed i5 2500 at 4.6gz on W7 64bit. Also installed latest Nvidia drivers (331.58) and have seen better performance without touching anything else. Is there a lot to be gained with Nvidai Inspector? Just wondering. Thanks.

  25. Hello guys, I'm now flying about 2 weeks with DX10 and I actually like it very much! Though, I think my frames can be better on my system I7-2600k 4,6Ghz 8GB RAM GTX 560 (non-ti) Yesterday I flew from Amsterdam to New york (Aerosoft scenery and FSdreamteam scenery) with the PMDG 777 At Amsterdam (heavy scenery) I got about 17 fps in the cockpit At New York I got during landing about 15fps in the cockpit. Switching water settings from 2x to 1x didn't help very much. So here's my CFG and maybe you got some hints what to put in: [AccelerationPack] ControlsFirstRun=0 HomePageFirstRun=0 [AContain] LabelColor=FFFF0000 LabelDelay=1000 ShowLabelAirli…
