I'm planning to build a new Core i7 FSX rig and at the same time replacing my eVGA 8800GT 512MB SSC (700MHZ GPU, 2000MHz memory) with a XFX GTX285 card but now I wonder if it would be worth the extra approx $50 to get the eVGA GTX285 FTW Edition instead with a GPU running at 720MHz compared to the XFX card where the GPU is running @ standard 650MHz - do you think that will make any noticable difference in FSX?From what I've learned FSX isn't that dependent on the graphics card but more dependant on the CPU so that's why I figured I could save those extra bucks, I wise decision or am I stingy? Also worth mentioning is I'm planning to o/c my i7 to hopefully about 4 GHz if p…

I have posted twice now about a sound problem...it is not a sound problem. All sound devices are removed from computer and drivers are uninstalled. It is the generation of ATC speech being sent to the ATC display....and even if I turn off the ATC portion of the speech text log on the screen the stutter still comes when they respond to my acknowledgment or request....you can tell this as you wait a few seconds and since I have ATC text turned off I get the stutter followed immediately by the text waiting for me to select my reply options. Sometimes when I reply I get a stutter also. Keep in mind all sound is disabled...all that is happening is the sound request are being g…

Hi there fellow flight simmers!I need some advice into purchasing a new video card. I recently bought a new HP with Intel Core 2 Quard Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz and 6GB RAM with Vista x64. However it comes with an Intel integrated graphics which is not that great. I'm looking into an XFX GeForce 9800 GTX - 512MB video card that will give me the best framerates (30 or more) with FSX. Is this a good decision or shall I go for something a little higher? Thanks in advance! :(

Hi folks,Just spent a frustrating afternoon downloading and installing the latest driver [181.22] for my Nvidia card [ Ge Force 7600 GS].Try as I might, I couldn't get it to perform anywhere near as well as the original driver [93.71] - particularly when trying to tweak it with nhancer- so I re-installed the original.I understand you should use some free software to de-install a new driver, but I simply deleted the new driver file in C drive and this seems to have worked OK.Whilst I am no IT whizzkid, I'm not afraid of updating stuff if it is worth it.Can anyone tell me whether I should bother with the latest drivers if I'm happy with the current set-up?Cheers..Stuart :(

All,I've had my ATI 3870 for just about a year now and it has served me well; however, it shows a lot of "tearing" when panning around in FSX (even with VSync locked on). Also, as many have mentioned before, clouds tend to give it troubles (even in FS9). Right now, Newegg is selling 9800GT cards for $120 price point. Is it worth it to upgrade to the 9800GT for FSX? Thanks,JoshuaRig:Q6600 OC to 3.2 GHz4 GB of 800 MHz MemoryGigabyte X38 MOBO22" monitor at 16580x1050500W Power Unit

I've just ordered a nice new XFX 9800GT XXX 512mb Graphics card for my FS9 rigWhilst I know how to change a Graphics Card, I'm unclear on the sequence of events I need to perform to load the new driver software successfully. I've read that I need to remove all traces of my old driver software..The card I will be taking out is an XFX 7600GT 256mb card.I know that I need to remove my current driver software from the add/remove programs in control panel... I think I then need to run a piece of software to completely remove any trace of any remaining bits... What this software called? What's the most recent and stable nvidia driver software version that will work best on FS9?I…

Im starting to feel that my system is underpowered as I go on with flying on active airports more than just the Russian domestic stuff.. traffic addons, Active Sky. Flying in 30% traffic with Active sky from Moscow to Sochi would get me 20-25 FPS since that what I got it locked on, which Im happy with. But flying out of Frankfurt for example would get my fps down to 10-15 and less. So here is my system..Pentium D at 3Ghz (64 bit, Dual Core, 800BUS, 2MB cache)2GB DDR2 800Mhz Corsair (2x1 sticks)8500GT.. slightly overclocked.2x80GB IDE harddrives (yes.. thats right.)XP Pro x64.Also got a 550W power and Zalman cooling on the CPU and the Gfx card.I have been looking at a BFG …

Hi allGot a Dell XPS system that came with a 3870x2 card, not impressed with it's performance, although found it more relaiable than the Nvidia 8800 GTS I have in my work system, for running FSXBut with 3870x2 when I turn on Dx10 preview, I get a drop in frame rates (8 to 14fps drop in at same airport and settings) and performance, never got that with the two Nvidia cards I have used for FSX, 8800 GTS and 8600, in fact it was the opposite. I went with the 397- in new system as the Nvida cards on my computer I use for work, kept crashing and Dell couldn't find anything wrong, changed everything from MB to Memory sticks etc.Done usual thing of trying out different versions …

Hi,I just received my new PC, and I experience a strange thing in FSX: Antialia does not work.If I uncheck the option in my FS config, it works fine (but aliased), if I check the antialias box, it's still not antialiased, andevery 10 seconds I have a black screen for 1 second. :( I have updated with the last drivers but still not working. Here is my config:Vista 64, FSX + Acc Pack, Q9550, ATI 4870 HD 1Go, catalyst 8.12.Did someone had/have this issue, or have a clue to resolve it ?Thanks a lot in advance for your help.Sebastien.

I now have a AMD 64 4000+ 2 Gb PC3200 RAM NVIDIA 7950GT 512M DDR3 AGP with Win XP Home SP2 and FS9.1 and FSX SP1.I currently use the 178.24 drivers from NVIDIA. I have encountered several problems where the video drivers could be the problem. For example SP2 for FSX gave me problems with vertical flashing spikes in the display. Other games has crashed with corrupted and flickering graphics which require reboot to rectify. I have also lately encountered several bluescreens when running FSX.So is it a good idea to install another driver and so which one and why? Another question. Do you think a ATI 3850 AGP would work better on my system than a 7950GT?

Having recently upgraded to an Intel Q9550 2.83GHz with 8.00 GB memory I decided to go the whole hog and get what seemed to be the best GPU.So I replaced my 512MB Asus 4870 with a GeForce GTX 295 which promised "blazing speed and performance."What a joke!Using exactly the same FSX settings as before it runs like an old banger compared to the 4870.Here's an example using the Carenado C152 parked at the end of the runway at Coffs Harbour (FTX Australian scenery) with frame rates set at unlimited, sliders in the middle, autogen medium, default fine weather.Asus: 29fps (vc panel) 28fps (ext spot view with terminal in background).GeForce: 18fps (vc panel) 20fps (ext spot view …

As stated in the title. My 9800GT should be arriving today and I want to get my FS9 rig back up and running asap. I've not purchased a new vid card in years and haven't used an Nvidia card in like 5 years. Wondering if there is a known set of "best" or "preferred" drivers that seem to work better than others. I'm searching the forum right now and most of the posts are referencing either Vista or 64-bit operating systems.Setup is:E4400 C2D @ 2.92 GHzASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboardEVGA 9800GT 512mbWindows XP Pro 32-bit SP2Flight Simulator 9.12GB A-data RAM22" LCD widescreen, 1680x1050 resolution.

Hi guys, I know I've already psted about graphics cards but I've narrowed my search down to 2. These are the Sapphire HD 4850 512Mb Dual Slot Fansink, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148468 and the BFG GeForce 9800GT OC2 ThermoIntelligence Cooling 512Mb, http://www.ebuyer.com/product/154968.So help in choosing the "one to be" card would be really helpful. Thanks.

Hi everyone,On my Dell XPS M1710 it seems the graphics card has come to the end of its life and I'm somewhat fortunate to be in a position of having a laptop graphics card which is replacable. The card is of the PCI-E type, 512mb of RAM. I'd like to replace it with something at least similar, if not better yet I would ideally like something that is good value for money. How much of an issue are the dimensions of the card, I'm thinking if i find something equal to or smaller than my current one then it should fit in no problem. Or are there some things I'm missing??Thanks :)Henz

Hi GuysI've had my current setup for FS9 for a few years now and thought it might benefit from a little upgrade. My current setup is an AMD Athlon 64 3700 venice cpu on an Asus A8N-E board with 2 gig of RAM and a XFX Geforce 7600 GT 256mb DDR3 factory overclocked Graphic card.I don't plan to upgrade to FSX any time soon because I don't think I could afford to build a machine that would run it at a reasonable speed...My upgrade will be to an AMD Athlon64 X2 6000 3.1ghz Asus M2N68-AM and 2 gig of 800mhz Ram... I know this is not as good as an intel C2D but it was a great deal and I'm hoping it will give my FS9 rig a bit more processing power without costing me a huge amount…

I've been having lots of problem with my new quad core/GTX 260, Vista 64 setup. Long story short, the computer guys that built my system told me that the new generation of Nividia cards (260/280) do not handle dual monitor setups very well anymore. Particularly two different monitors with two different resolutions. Any truth to this? My experience so far has been miserable on my new gaming rig.My old system, P4, 2 gig ram, Nvidia 9600 512, ran dual monitors just fine. I have a 24" LCD and a 17" LCD. The smaller monitor is not DVI, just a standard VGA connection. The 24" can do both. I ran the 24" at 1600x1200 and the 17" at 1024x768, using the smaller monitor for m…

Hi All To get this new video card forum going I thought I would summarise the generally held views around here about what video cards are currently the best choice for FSX. First off it is not possible to have this discussion about video cards for FSX in isolation without also talking about the CPU, the RAM, the Motherboard, the
