Hey guys, I notice that a lot of people here average 15-20 fps or greater on the ground in dense sceneries. In my case, i cannot compare to that. I can average around 10 or less most times, and depending on the aircraft I use, i can go all the way down to 5 fps. Now this is not even with every slider at max. I do not think i have a bad system as my specs are comparable to most on here. What am i doing wrong and how can i fix this? Here are my specs...ASUS A7V333 mobo /w KT333 chipset, 133MHz FSB /w latest drivers and BIOSAthlon XP 2000+ chip overclocked at 1.71 GHz.512 MB PC2100 (or PC2700 - not sure) RAMGeForce2 GTS/Pro 64 Mb graphics card, 43.45 detonator driversAudigy S…

Trailing seems now negligible under 25 ms according to most people. On my one year old laptop, details however disappear at dawn or dusk, dark textures becoming almost black. As FS2K2 is quite a bit underlit, I wonder how the latest LCD screens render darkish textures ? I'm thinking of buying a NEC 1760NX or a Samsung 172T for my mew rig.Dominique

I got a nice new Radeon 9700 Pro All-in-Wonder card today, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it work with the newest Catalyst drivers (or rather, how to make it work with all its features). I tried downloading and installing the 3.2 drivers and it worked fine, but on reboot during the driver install screens my system was reporting several "unknown" devices for which it couldn't find drivers. I figured I'd need to use the full installation from the CD. After uninstalling the 3.2s, I installed from CD and everything worked fine, as I was expecting, with all the correct drivers installed for the video capture, DVD Dec, etc. and no problems reported in the…

I just bought and installed an Envision 985e 19" flat-screen monitor, presently serving as my primary display. I have a 17" monitor now as the secondary display. This problem isn't unique to FS; in fact it's less of a problem in FS than in most other apps, but I figured I'd let you guys give it a shot. It seems that no matter what display mode, resolution, screen size (using the OSD monitor controls), etc. I select, the text/image on the sides of the screen is notably narrower than that in the middle. So if there's a line of text all across the screen, the text gets wider in the center and narrower on the edges, sort of a fish-eye effect I suppose. The actual edges of…

I am thinking of upgrading my AMD 1600 for the new Pentium 4 3GHZ with 800 FSB. Not knowing anything about computers, I was wondering whether to upgrade my Video card to a Geforce4 Ti 4600 or the new Geforce FX.Any help would be most greatly appreciated. Many thanks, kind regardschrisEGBB

Greetings everyone,I'm considering buying a new computer (like, next week) because my current one has a video card that isn't even worth mentioning here! It's got an Athlon 2600, 512 MB RAM, 120 GB HD but here's the problem (apparently): the video card is a GeForce4 MX440, 128 MB. I've seen several rather negative comments elsewhere on the forums saying that this card poses problems with reflections and other graphics features in FS2002, so here's my question: is this card really that bad? The thing is, this computer I'm considering is a brand name one, so if I go for a machine with a GeForce4 Ti 4200 128 MB (that I would be at one of those small shops), the price would g…

I just bought myself a Dell 2850 which came with preinstalled WinXP.I installed the fS2k2 and it was running OK. Without the slightest clue of the impending ramifications, I installed the DX9.0a. Now my system is running very slow (particularly the graphics).I saw a thread below which refers to system restore, which may be the solution to this problem. However, I do not want to lose the commercial products I recently downloaded from the various payware sites such as PSS, Flight1 etc. These products were installed on my computer after I installed the DX9.0a.I am not a computer expert and require advise here. Please helpGraham:-zhelp

I am not sure if I am missing somthing but my overall results from upgrading to the 9700 Pro have not been all that great. I have checked out rage3d.com and other posts here, done some tweaking of XP and still only manage about a 4300 score on 3DMark2003. I am running a Dell 8200 P4 2 Ghz with 1024 RDRAM. I am not sure if I have hit the limit of what I can tweak but I tend to think Imight be missing some more basic.Any ideas?

HiI see video cards listed as having the Ti4800 chipset. Wheredoes this fit in the NVidia line up??It looks (price wise) to be inbetween the Ti4200 and the Ti4600.Is it just a Ti4200 with ultra fast memory? For just about $25 more I could buy an ATI 9500 Pro which I see intests is slightly ahead of or even with the Ti4600. The Ti4600is well over $100 more expensive than the 9500 Pro at shops near me.Thanks for any help you can give me.FaxCap

I have a Gforce 2 gts ultra card 64 meg and I have the 30-82 drivers loaded how ever I am having problems with FS2002, when I come in to land I get strange shaped flashes of colours striking downwards to the airport it only happens at airports both addon and default so I uninstalled Fs and cleaned up the drive and reinstalled FS2002 with no addons but it still does this at airports. I never had the problem before I lost the hard drive and put in a new 40gig drive but I think before the crash I was useing a diferent driver but I cant remember which it was as I lost all the data on my old drive. Question is do you think this could be a driver problem and would the 43-45 dri…

I recently installed the above card and I can't seem to get it to force AA on all the time. I have installed the latest ATI drivers; for some reason, the Omega Corner ones didn't seem to work for me at all, so I'm using the ATI ones from mid-March. I also have the Rage3D tweak program with the extra control panel tabs, which *should* force 6xAA and 16xAF all the time. That's the way I have it set.I have AA and filtering turned off in FS2002 but have everything else pretty much maxed out. When I first go into the program and to the Create a Flight screen, AA is obviously working because there are no jagged edges on whatever plane happens to be spinning around. I've a…

I am finalizing my order for a new system (P4, 3.0 GHz)and am down to deciding between the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro and the nVidia GeForce 5600 video cards, or any other recommendations.I would really appreciate any advise and insight which anyone could offer, as I am really confused. I have read all I could find at Tom's Hardware, Gure 3D and Anandtech and now I am looking to those who's opinion really matters......our FlightSim community. Thanks a lot,Howard

Hey guys,Just popped in a 9500 Pro, worked quite well, drivers installed OK, no problem. I had previously used Driver Cleaner to remove all traces of NVidia drivers.Unfortunately, I then booted up FS2002 and it's like I don't even have a video card. The ground "textures" are like 2-foot-wide green and brown chunks. What used to be tire tracks down the runway now look like big black lines. Jaggies and blurries are everywhere.So...I tried different drivers. No dice.Tried the Rage3D tweaks. No dice.Tried resolution refresh fix program. No dice.Tried pulling the card and reinstalling it. No dice.Tried deleting the fs2002.cfg and letting it rebuild. No dice.Any ideas?…

Hey all --I got a problem that I am befuddled by. On my system(specs in sig) I slowly run out of HDD space. My c: Drive is 53.7 gigs large, and formatted into NTFS. If I select all the folders in my c: drive and click properties, I get the total disk usage at 20 gig. Adding in 1.5 gig for my max page file size, I should be using no more than 21.5 gigs. However, free disk space is said to be 27.4 gigs and getting worse.I open up the Windows Task Manager and have enabled all the I/O related options enabled for viewing. When I sort by I/O Write Bytes, ta da, I get one process listed that totals exactly the unaccounted for Disk space......and this 'image name' is system.…

I had my GF4Ti4800 card installed and running and then I installed the Omega drivers. The result was less than I had hoped for and was attempting to uninstall the Omegas and reinstall the Gainward drivers when I got an error #0X80070725 "Incompatible version of the RPC Stub - installation aborted!" message. I have tried everything I can think of, including going back to my old GeForce2 card. Nothing will install now - same message. Used detonator destroyer, and then tried Driver Cleaner for Nvida, still no go. Any ideas?Any help appreciated!Dave

Dell is hyping a new computer which it says is ideal for gamers...at a cost of $1800...however,their entry level computer is the 2350 which goes for around $500. Has anyone had an experience with this model...I believe it uses a P4 2.2gh chip? Might this be a good upgrade from my 1Gig Tyan 1854?Thanks...Sherm

Well, the 1 GB Kingston HyperX PC3500 DDR RAM I ordered is here, and it's time for me to install that nice shiny Epox 8rda+ Nforce2 board I've got sitting in the corner. Time to reformat my HD and reinstall all my OS, drivers, applications & such. Gonna be a long night... Wish me luck folks! If everything goes well I'll update this thread with a performance report regarding the Nforce2 mobo & dual-channel PC3500 RAM. I'm hoping to run @ least a 200MHz fsb in dual-channel mode, but we'll just have to see. Wish me luck folks!-Max Cowgill

Hi! As someone else in an other thread, I too, over the weekend, have made a fresh install of Win XP on my puter along with a new 40 Gg hd and a memory upping to 768 meg. I also went for the Omega driver. I'm quite please with the results for FS usage though I have a little qwirk with the system that is not FS related.Normaly, I would start the machine in the morning and let it run all day till I go to bed, where I shut it off. I use this machine for many other purposes than FS. Yes, yes! It's possible ;-)Many times a day I come to the machine do some work.... like checking what's new at Avsim...ahem! and then leave until next time around. When I leave I prefer to put the…

Hi,I purchased a Gainward GF4 Ti4200 8x AGP card a couple of weeks ago and I cannot get decent anti-aliasing with this thing while running FS2002 no matter what I try. AA IS working but it's really crappy, jaggy 3D objects and scinillating textures on the ground. I've tried 2x, Quincux, 4x, along with Antiostrophy levels 2 to 8x. FS2002 just looks terrible. The 8x AGP Ti4200 cards will only run 40.xx plus detonater drivers so I can't use the venerable 30.82s anymore. I've tried the 41.09s all the way to the newest beta 43.51s from Guru3D. I've tried using both Rivatuner and the Nvidia control panel to set AA, still nothing is getting me away from these terrible…
