I touched on this in another thread but thought I would throw this out to see if anyone could answer this question.I bought a MSI NX8800GT 512 PCI-E 2.0 card and installed it on a P5GL-MX Motherboard. The tech guy that sold it to me said it would run fine. It Doesn't. Seems the 2.0 is not compatible with older MB's that run 1.0 or 1.0a PCI-E slots.THEN.... he says to download the 2.0 driver. I cannot find this driver and don't understand how this would make it work.Any ideas???TurnipSystem Specs:FSX SP2Motherboard = P5-GL-MXP4 3.0SB Live 24MSI NVidia GeForce NX8800GT 512All BIOS Up To Date2 Gb Geil PC3200 Dual Channel RAMClean Install of VISTA HOME BASICWD 250 GB SATA 720…

I've recently been flying FSX and have had FS9 for over a year. I'd like to increase the performance of both, but I don't want to throw money away on a lost cause. I'm currently running a Dell Dimension E521 (AMD 64x2 3800+ dual core, 4 gb of 533 RAM (Crucial), XFX 8600GT 256mb video, 150 gb HD w/ 50% available, and have an OCZ 470W PSU.Would upgrading the CPU to maybe a dual 5600+ get me anything, or is the MB going to be the limiting factor? Also, the 8600GT is new, but I think the ATI 3870 might fit. I have some heat sink/shroud size issues, so I can't get just any board in there. It's PCI-E. I'll also add that I'm a bit of a computer nube, I handled changing the…

What I mean is there some system requirement for FS9 which would be sufficient to get rid of all stuttering and give say 25 fps all the time no matter what you throw at it in regard of addon maxed settings etc. Meaning it would be pointless to spend more money on a more powerful system since it would be overkill for FS9?Lets assume we use fsautostart and our system is not incorrect configured. What could such system be? Mine must be below itMy systemAMD 64 3200+NVIDIA 6600GT 256M DDR31 Gb 400 MHz RAMTwo IDE HDWin XP Home

Hey everyone,I wanted to post that my little article about putting together the system to run 8 monitor FSX at the AVSIM conference in Bellevue, WA is finally live. I don't know how many from the forums were there but it was a great experience and I know many people asked about the demo I had running. So anyway, here is a small article with a few pictures of my experience :)http://game.amd.com/us-en/community_articl...id=AMD000000017Jeff

Hi all,A couple of days ago I installed an 8800GT card on my system, along with the 169.21 drivers (I'm running WinXP SP2). As far as gaming goes, everything seems to be fine...actually stunning in IL2:1946! However, when I try to play a DVD the image quality sucks. It's like the DVD is not playing properly, it's hard to explain, but the images look "chunky", for lack of a better descriptor. Things do not flow smooth across the screens...lots of blockiness.I didn't have this problem with my previous card, a 7600GS. Also now when I try to play some DVD's, I get an error message stating "the application failed to start because wnaspi32.dll was not found". I never had that b…

Hi guys, I've seen a lot of discussions on CPU speed, but couldn't find much on memory speed. I'm considering a Q6600, a P35 based Gigabyte or Asus motherboard, and a GTS8800 512. I'm hoping to overclock that chip to 3.6 mhz as I've seen reported by others on this forum. It appears that DDR2-800 should be a perfect fit for this. 400 FSB gets me 3.6 mhz on the CPU with its 9 multiplier and 800 mhz on the memory. However I've noticed that some are picking up DDR3 memory. Will lowering my CPU multiplier and running up the FSB to the higher mhz limits offered by DDR3 yield anything in FSX performance? This is an expensive propostion not only to purchase the DDR3 memory, but I…

Hi All,I wonder if anyone has any advice on this issue I am having.I ran the MS Up-Date last week, and since then I am having problems that I have not encountered before.I can't seem to run FS Repaint now, as it gives me a weird error message with a small box detailing what the error is. I will try and post a shot of this. And I'm wondering if this is why I was having a devil of a time trying to install the new shockwave lights as well, as their installer kept telling me that it couldn't find my FS9.1 installation, despite it being installed in the default directory etc, with nothing moved at any time.I'm running XP Pro, with SP2, and 2gig of corsair memory, and a Hercules…

I've gradually come to the realization that my 8600GTS card has 256M physical memory, but is viewed by WinXP and I assume FSX as a 512M card. This is accomplished by the driver enabling a feature called Turbocache which I've been unable to turn off.Maybe this is just fine and I should stop fussing with it... Rumour has it that Vista treats all cards this way, ie virtual video memory bigger than physical video memory.I just wonder, does anyone here have any experience with this feature, and is there any description anywhere?Q6600 @ 3.0, 2 GB PC800 RAM, 8600GTS with 174.12 driver, WinXP Pro http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/185881.jpg

Hi,I am going to be upgrading my system primarily for FS9, but also will venture onto FSX in due time given that my system right now is starting to give me hiccups and I am out of disk space (AMD64 4000+, 7800gtx).I will go down the Intel Q6600 path, but would like to know two things:1) Which of the graphics cards would you recommend: 8800GT or 8800GTS? They are about the same price?2) I would prefer to stick with XP, but a lot of people go with Vista. I know that there was XP Pro 64-bit available a few years back. No one talks about it on the forums? Does anyone use this OS and is it recommended? Many thanks!

Good afternoon,I just purchased a Epson Home Cinema 720 and will be using it as my main window, all i want to show on it is the scenery. On my monitor I want to see my cockpit, GPS and ATC transmissions. What do you recommend? I use display 1 as the projector or the monitor? As much as possible I don't want to see blue bars on my large image.Playing on a 6ft wide screen is gonna be kick ####!!!Thanks!Marc P

Anyone have this 3-screen hardware expander working with FSX? What did you have to do to get it to work? Please share your settings with us, as I know there are some questions about whether or not it will work with FSX due to the new camera view system used in FSX.Thanks In Advance,http://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD

Hi everyone, my question today is about hardware. I want to buy a high-end computer which I want to use only for flightsimming. I imagine to add 3 screens (not Matrox Triple Head) but one 24" screen for the cockpit and 2 20" screens for Instruments like GPS, Throttle Quadrant etc. What kind of configuration/components would you propose? And one question more: Should I take Windows XP or Vista? I`m using FS2004 at the moment but there should also be an option to use FSX later on. But as far as I know, the performance of flightsimming is better with XP then with Vista (!?!) What solution would you propose? Thanks in advance for yr assistance.Guenther

If you have an application that could benefit, you can use the very cool utility to painlessly set up a ram disk and you will get virtual HD performance like this:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/185933.jpgNoelQX9650 w/ Retail HSF|8GB Muskin PC-6400|ASUS P5E|EVGA 8800GT @700|Seagate SATA 2 x 4|Seagate Cheetah 15K.x|XP Pro|Vista 64--soon to be installed

I have noticed that if I start a long distance flight (using the PMDG B744, so quite resource intensive), then minmize FSX and proceed with other apps while occasionally checking on the FSX flight progress, that eventually the PC crashes to a reboot. This occurs when I go to maximise FSX to once again check on progress.I have 2GB of DDR3 RAM ( 2* CRUCIAL ct12864ba1067 1gb (1024mb) pc3-8500 1066mhz cl7 240-pin ddr3 dimm), running WinXP SP2, and have not yet applied the boot.ini patch to allow FSX to use more than the standard 2GB of RAM.Is there a way, after the machine reboots, to dertermine the cause of a crash such as this? The reboot is almost instantaneous upon maxi…

im in a pickleright now I can either go out right away and get a Q6600 or an E8500...or i can wait for the new 45nm Q9450's to come out in March... im stuck on what to do though... should I wait?the only thing that turns me off of the 9450 is the 8.5x multi :SQ6600 will easily overclock to the 3.0ghz spec of the E8500, and is 40 bucks cheaper where I am.or should I go with a plain Dual core with a stock clock of 3ghz wich already is 45nm? (vs the quads 65nm)I do plan on overclocking on air with a thermalright Ultra 120 Ex. heatsinksome info from the guru's? lolcheers!

Most people in the pc world know that for pretty much all games the nvidia 8800gt will beat the ati 3870, but fsx is often unique. has anyone experimented with both of these cards in fsx? There is a whole lot of talk going around about nvidia drivers causing slowdowns and crashes in fsx, so my question is, in fsx only, is the 8800gt still faster than the ati 3870?

There are loads of posts on this forum, about different hardware, different GFX cards.. etc.. and every time I come here I get more and more confused..SO.. I've made some decisions... the ONLY way to go for FSX is overclocking.. which probably means watercooling.. Standard CPU speeds at the moment won't get you really good performance all round.. SO.. I've got a fair amount of money.. thinking of spending around

Hi: I am considering a new system and have a question that I have not been able to answer by searching the forum...Will FSX take advantage of dual video cards? GeForce 8800GT 512mb...Or, should I just save some money and configure the system with one card and increased (4mb) of memory? Thanks for your consideration...HedgehogKansas, USA

Hi guys,I have the spec as listed below.I am wondering if I upgrade the display card to a Geforce 8800 and upgrade to Vista, will that improve the performance in FSX a lot?I couldn't upgrade my CPU so those seems like the only thing that I can upgrade. Thanks for any comment.Vincent---------------------------------------VincentDell 9150P-D 2.8G2G DDR2Nvidia 6800

Ok, so here's the deal, normally one would place a subwoofer where it creates the best effect. However, today, while I was at work, some jerk guy comes stomping over to our door (we live in an apartment) like a little kid, pounds on it, and yells to my wife's face, saying how "all he wants is peace and quiet after he comes home at 2PM"My wife had some nice music on with the sub turned almost all the way down. she showed me the level when I got home today and I gotta say, it was, IMHO a non-event. The sound and the bass was not loud and no walls were rattling. The guy yelled swear words and everything, and we are very nice people, so of course she apologized.Anyway the guy …
