Overall, a very fair review, Mike. However here's a major pointer for you to ponder over for future write-ups. Season textures, or as you quoted - “All season photo-real airport scenery at 30cm/pixels” - is strickly referred/associated with overall photoreal ground texture coloration and sharpness, NOT trees or vegetation coloration and deviation with each season. Most developers indicate that when referencing their scenery ground texture composition coupled with amount of pixels created for users to know. When you losely mince words with disregard to intent or quote the above remark out of context then you're doing disservice to your review and my current and potential c…

I really enjoyed Marlon Carter's review of RadarBox. However, I noticed at the bottom where it has the likes and dislikes, he left the text from the template he used rather than changing it. It still reads about Aerosoft's airpark add-on.

From the review:"Most X-Planers are real life pilots that prefer a simulator of aircraft dynamics rather than a flight scenery simulator as FSX is often referred to as being oriented towards. X-Plane has received certification from the FAA for logging hours under specified circumstances. X-Plane has a more realistic flight model than others of its genre. Updates are regularly made freely available. I am using version 9.55rc3 for this review."I don't know exactly why, but it seems that so many of those who write reviews for X-Plane, just have to toss in a bit of MSFS versus the notion of realistic flight dynamics. Quite frankly, I get irrated rather quickly..........whene…

Just wanted to alert you Norton AV is reporting the site used for the audio samples listed in the review as unsafe. It's probably a false positive, but I'm running a scan anyway.

I have some small issues with this add-on:There are some typos in the filenames. While this is not really an issue, I can't really understand why such an obvious error can make it in to a retail product. The probably more serious problem is that the flight plans are written in two different formattings (probably FS9 and FSX). This was a big problem for me since my flight planning software (Courseplanner) did recognize one of them, but not the other. Hence, I spent most of last night writing a program that reads savegames and creates flight plans... If someone is interested in this, send me a message.

My understanding of the F/A-18E Super Hornet, those blades in the front are not fan blades. The fan blades are deeper inside the aircraft. To my knowledge, those are blades/screens placed to help eliminate or reduce radar signature on the front profile of the F/A-18 Super Hornet. This being said, yes, they do not "spin".
-
Hi Mark,Just thought I would suggest a correction for you on one of your "What I don't like" aspects of this review...you state:Engine turbine intake fans do not spin while running Mark, on the Superhornet, what you are seeing in the intakes are not engine turbine blades, (while they look like them) they are in fact radar diffusing surface areas and beyond that, their purpose goes classified. So, they don't spin and these are in fact accurately modeled on the VRS Superhornet...Also, I know there is a heck of a lot to write about the features of this incredible add-on, but to further your own enjoyment, I suggest you take a look through this threads' entirety to try out…

Dear David,Thanks for the review of Flight Deck 6.At the end you wrote:"As of the completion of this review I have not received answers to some of the problems I have had while operating Flight_Deck 6. I will not list them here since I am waiting on a response from Abacus."But I think you can wait until FSXX comes in the shops before you get any answer back.Good luck!RegardsBert

Hi Guys,Probably not something alot of reviewers would ask for, but I'd like to take the time and ask you guys for some feedback on my review I did on the Vertigo Studio's P36 Hawk - http://www.avsim.com/pages/0710/Vertigo2/P36.htmI would like to ask you guys what I did a good job on, and what you think needs improving as I would like to imrpove every time, and that would require the readers feedback.I didn't add a lot of pictures but on the review im doing right now, I have added alot more.Any Feedback what so ever please!Cheers,Aidan Sandri.

I mean no disrespect with this comment but I am a little disappointed in Aidan Sandri's review the CLS MD81/82. It is little much of a review more than it reads like an advertisement for the product. As a matter of fact, it appears Mr. Sandri pretty much copied and pasted from the CLS website the history of the MD80. CLS's website claims that this MD81/82 is "Featuring the best visuals and realistic flight dynamics." Having read that I was waiting for someone to publish a review of this product and I was a little disappointed in AVSIM's brief and very non-descriptive review of this product. A review of any FS aircraft should detail more than four sentences on the flight d…

Looks good but way over priced, in my humble opinion.Looking at the pictures it uses a very simple frame and cushion, why such a high price?

Hi!I must say I don't completely understand this review. Until the "Summary" I agreed with everything written.. I bought this product and this is the only addon I bought (among A LOT!) that I don't use, actually I uninstalled it, because the FPS drop (and I have a pretty decent machine) and other bugs (no contrails behind user aircraft,...). The support is polite and nice, but what exactly was fixed since the release? So, what I don't understand are the last few sentences, where you talk about taking the simulation to a higher level, realism, liking the blinking dots,... from that I assume you liked the product and gave it positive review.. but you didn't really write any…

I enjoyed David Wilson-Okamura's review of the Vertigo Studios SBD Dauntless (17 July), but disagree with his statement in his introduction that there was "no such thing as precision bombing". It is correct that RAF Bomber Command's navigation and bombing accuracy was extremely poor in the early war period. However, technology and target marking techniques improved dramatically as the war went on, so that by 1944 Bomber Command's heavy bombers had the capability to hit targets such as oil refineries, canals and railyards very accurately at night, usually more so than the 8th USAAF was generally capable of in daylight. No. 5 Group in particular became very adept. During st…

Firstly, congratulations on the review. I thought it was really well written and gave a good account of the product. Just a few points on the flight model...- The FSX ailerons are 'interesting', there is an alarming lag in aileron response. Flying straight and level at 100kts and moving full left aileron, 1 second, full right aileron, 1 second etc etc produces almost no roll. View from the outside spot view for best effect as you'll see the control surfaces flapping from one extreme to the other with almost no effect. This, in my experience, is not at all correct. The roll in response to aileron input is very good (almost instantaneous) such that if you did this in real l…

Thank your Benjamin van Soldt for a brilliant review on this Aerosoft Mega Amsterdam airport offering. Now I not only know why my Aerosoft Mega London takes an FPS hit on a powerful machine, but I was contemplating purchasing this Amsterdam Mega Airport addon to augment my Mega Frankfurt. Now you have saved me what would have turned out to be a disappointment.I think for the time being I'll stick to NL2000 v4.A solid,well-researched review and as someone familiar with all the roads you quoted,a well put together Review.Well Done.Excellent

There were some pretty huge holes in the review. A comparison with Aerosoft Manhattan is highly misleading because Manhattan is not a "photoreal" replacement per se but a full replacement for the Manhattan Island and immediate surrounding area that gives night and seasonal replacements also...is this true of Chicago?Living in Chicagoland myself I have been contemplating buying this scenery and having read the specs on the website I was on the fence. I was pleased to finally see a review on the area and was counting on it to help make a decision on purchasing this. However, having read the review I found it to be terribly incomplete for a large scenery area almost as…

Wow, I just read, I think, a AVSIM review entitled Ultimate 757 Collection - Redux found in the commercial section. There is no date to be found on the document. There is no reviewer identified anywhere in the document. The summary is one sentence with no recommendation. No stars assigned.I wonder if this is a bonafide review or something the developer cooked up for advertising. I would say AVSIM needs a little quality control in the review section. :( RayM

Just a bit of information for simmers. Flight Simulator uses what the developers call LOD, which means Level of Display. This is a mechanism that displays different resolutions for textures and objects depending of the distance from them. So, when close up, the highest resolution is displayed, and as one moves away, lower and lower resolutions are displayed. What is the reason for this? It makes no sense to display the highest resolution when far away since the object or texture is barely visible, and that would keep a lot of the hardware resources overloaded without any purpose. The point is that custom (photo-real) scenery that contains maximum resolution, for example, o…

After reading the review I had to control-f to make sure I didn't miss it myself. There is absolutely zero mention that this is a FS9 portover. It is a FSX review of a FS9 aircraft, and that isn't mentioned!?That should be the single biggest point in the "What I don't like about" section. It isn't even a FSX model. That is the reason it doesn't have bump mapping, not because the developers simply left it out. That is the reason it has poor frame rates in FSX. Indeed that is the only reason I haven't bought it myself.I just can't believe that whether the addon is a real FSX model or not is STILL not part of every AVSIM FSX addon review. Developers need to be called …

After having read the Qualitywings 757 review and downloading/installing the 757, I noticed various new entries in the "Addon Manager" menu (FS9). These pointed to several payware scenery offers (such as Cloud 9, FSD), including "buy"-buttons. These entries have nothing to do with FS functionality and clearly serve only one purpose: To make money. To point it out clearly: such menu entries have no business to be there, they do not serve any purpose related to the product in question (here: the QW 757) nor do they enhance functionality, addon managing capability etc. On the contrary - by adding such menu items, functionality and operability of FS are actually reduced. With …

Interesting information - thanks for the review. Unfortunately it misses on one very key point for me. It's not a yoke. :) (nothing the reviewer can really help, though) Although I sometimes pine for the days of my CH Products Flightstick and Throttle to zip around the skies in an acrobatic jet, the vast majority of my sim flying is done in yoke equipped airplanes. From the trusted Cessna trainers to the venerable 747, I've been flying with "two" hands on the wheel as opposed to just one for many years now. We seem to be missing a good, solid, conservative YOKE these days. The new CH Products offering looks like a yoke gone crazy. The Saitek seems iffy. ...And the Premi…

Quoted from your review:"The 767 also has some nifty animations on it, like dynamic wingflex, an airstair truck and a pushback truck. They are both activated through the sim-icons panel. Interesting though, the main door opens upward and inward instead of outward and sideways. Where did that come from? It also has all of the
