As Jeff Shylock (just kidding, Jeff!) knows all too well, there are few things worse than seeing your name written incorrectly in some glowing review of your wonderful work.Jim Keir (not Kier) is a long time member of the Avsim forum who has made numerous contributions to the community, too many to count. Mr. Keir, not Kier, is a great guy and an excellent developer of tools who has given us a lot, and the least that he could expect is that his name is written correctly.Perhaps those corrections could be made in the article concerning Jim Keir's splendid Mission development tool.Best regards.Luis

Is it just me or are the screenshots for this scenery just atrocious? I desperately want to like the product but perhaps there is not much to like. The reviewer states thus: "It should be obvious from these screenshots and my comments that what we have from Scotflight is not mere "wow factor" eye candy, but something much more pragmatic and ultimately, far more useful." Where is this "eye candy"? There are jaggies galore (no anti-aliasing), the colours look quite bland, and there are no ground shadows. :( Hardly good advertising for the product. I do commend the time and rigour the reviewer went through to give everyone a flavour of the product as a whole, but perhaps th…

I very nice review. I think one thing that should be mentioned is the absence of the strobing lead-in lighting for runway 05. In my view this is quite a serious ommission and was quite nicely done in the FS9 version. Other than that it is a very nice package.

All very informative. However.......nothing tells us how it really performs. Does it run like a dog, or a greyhound?During taxiing from the freighter terminal to our runway, with building storms selected, all sliders maximum and BluePrint Simulations KMEM installed, I noticed an average of 16-18 FPS doesn't tell us anything, unless we've all got a Dual Intel P4-Xeon 3.06Ghz4Gb RAM DDR 533MhznVidia 7800GS+ 512Mb AGPRAID-0 HDD's - SCSI 340Gbsetup just like yours, with building storms selected, all sliders maximum and BluePrint Simulations KMEM installed.Just in case we haven't, why not provide some standardised figures, say compared to the stock CRJ700 in the same condition…

I really really really want to support ANYBODY thats trying to compete against MS.Twice I have bought X-plane and twice I have deleted it within a few hours. These so called "grreat" physics based flight models are terrible. With the exception of 1 or 2 the planes are laughable.I got suckered into the latest version because of the glowing graphics reviews and gigs and gigs of scenery. Its HORRIBLE. The autogen looks like a child emptied his toybox and just slung buildings around.I took off from my home airport of 25 years and was instantly lost.Huge industrial buildings next to houses next to repreating fuel tanks next to farms. At one time I said support X-plane so MS would …

If you've been following this thread http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=239078, you'll see there's quite a bit of interest in the standardised measurement of the FPS achieved by different aircraft models. It would be very useful if airplane reviewers could also provide such measurements in their reviews. If they follow the procedure below, they can produce a figure which should be relatively independent of their own hardware and software configuration.1. Set up the stock Microsoft CRJ700 at the end of any runway where the overall FPS is high (so that the absolute number is large and the results will be more 'granular'. Not La Guardia or Kennedy where the figure …

The quality of reviews on avsim is going downhill by the month! Here again is a review that repeats marketing babble by the makers without checking the facts. I have used x-plane for several versions, and you are right it is about the modelling, an approach that allows technicians and designers to check certain features of the airfoil. But it is NOT more accurate than MSFS. It has the same, if not more, shortcomings as Microsoft parametric approach, and no amount of marketing talk from Austin will change that. x-plane is great, I like and use it for many things, but the constant repetition of "better" flight modeling is so much nonsense. Different yes, better, no.

  12. One important element that was not mentioned in the review is that the VR-920 do not support DX10.This is not an issue for those using XP such as the reviewer but it does complicate the decision to purchase a pairfor Vista users who find an increase in framerates or prefer the visuals in DX10 preview mode. Also the simulator can no longer function in DX9 as it did previous to the VR-920 driver software having been installedbut from that point on conflicts with any hat switch or view module that is in use by the simmer and requires the VR-920to be used to shift eye point .Another point that's worth a mention is the Stereo 3D function that i found adds to the immersiveness o…

Hello,I read with interest the recent review of the C-130 Hercules by Jason McKee.I completely agree, that this is a quite impressive model, which is fun to fly and to hear (the sounds - great!).Unfortunately I am not completely happy with the review itself. Although it is always nice to have pictures showing details of the product, I personally do not like to see all screens of the installer. If it is a very "Very Simple Installation Process", it does not make sense to me, to see the installer pictured in detail. What is the point of having 9 desktop screens with different install windows in a plane review? I can see, that the installer has an EULA page, but cannot read …

A tank sim review seems a touch out of place for a site "...where Flight Simulation Enthusiasts gather from around the world!"Surely there is some flightsim-related product that could have been reviewed? Some freeware perhaps? Are we really running that low on material to review which boosts the primary raison d'

You mention that you have not been able to find any repaints for this aircraft, but both Stephan Pillon and myself have done a lot of repaints for this bird. Nearly all are available here at Avsim, the total number is more than 30 for sure. Some are listed under FS9, other under FSX, just look for our names.Jan Kees Blom

Out of respect to AvSim and the degree of trust your readers place in reviewer's opinions ... it is my opinion AvSim should give consideration to pulling the Captain Sim 757 Pro Pack (FSX) review off the site. There were more than 10 bugs I observed in the product in 15 minutes. Problems with the engine response, autopilot, VNAV and autothrottles make the sim unplayable. After a couple hours looking for fixes and only finding frustrated forum entries by others who regret having purchased the Captain Sim product, I'm uninstalling it.As a reviewer, our first obligation must be to our readers. If I was misled by the review, surely others will be. I say, lets take the glov…

  18. Hi there, just to let you know, the figures on the jetway are simply painted schemes of people, nothing else. It is as such in real life as well. They did that also with the Airbus 320 "Spirit of Cologne-Bonn", you may find that under D-AIPH, to give the whole thing a corporate identity. Also look at the website here http://www.airport-cgn.de/index.php you will find the same type of icons here.Best regardsHolger Dallmeyer10 NM away from EDDK and an avid spotter there!

Hi,Not a bad review overall but there were some inaccuracies - Jeff stated that the 737 has seperate autopilot controls for the captian and first officer". This is incorrect - the 737 has a common MCP (mode control panel) for the Captian and FO to use, centrally located, just like that in the CRJ. The only controls that both Captain and FO have, are the EFIS selection controls and the Course knob. (Neither of which are autopilot controls). Also, Jeff's review did not look very deeply into the (lack of) realism aspects of the Friednly Panels CRJ700 product: The CRJ does not have VNAV, so why would this be added to the FMC ?? ..... also, a moving map display on the F…

I imagine everyone involved is breathing a little easier now that the MD-11 review is finally out of the way. Thanks for the review on Bunker Hill AFB. I was born at the Bunker Hill AFB Hostital in 1967. My Dad was in the Air Force and worked on the tail gun system of the B-58 Hustler. I see the scenery is pretty simple in FS9. Is there any chance we could get some screen shots from the FSX version?I also noticed that Bunker Hill AFB is now sold in a package group with other AFB scenery. That would seem to make it even more interesting to those who like the military operations side of the package. The new package is called U.S. Airfields Volume 2 and includes Andrews AFB, Bunker Hill AFB, Dyess AFB and Ellsworth AFB. The description says that all include AI traffic. Here …
