Just read the review for this latest version. I have a question that I thought would be addressed in the review, but wasn't.I have read numerous times that usb headphones were taboo for us flight simmers because of the resources they consume. That is, as opposed to headphones plugged into a soundcard.I would be interested in knowing if there was any loss of performance or stuttering as a result of using this usb headset. If not, maybe it is time to throw away that soundcard (just kidding). Also, does using a usb headset like this mean that you need to disable the soundcard? Thanks for taking the time to write this review, much appreciated.Wilson

Thank you, Trevor Clark, for continuing the legacy of "The Bear's Cave" with the new "Treasure Chest"! I hope you get a lot of positive response for this new effort. Steve Cartwright's freeware reviews were legendary, and were definitely an inspiration for me to try out as a product reviewer for AVSIM. I think your new Treasure Chest column is a joy to read, and it's wonderful to see how exciting Flight Simulator can be on a shoestring budget. Hopefully, the Treasure Chest will give other AVSIM readers who want to write about sim aviation the incentive to try out as a reviewer as well. At the very least, I hope readers will frequently send in links to items that can …

I like this add-on product, and I felt the review did it justice. My only issue would be the reviewer's comment about the P8 compass. Rather than being half functional, it is in fact completely unrealistic, consequently almost impossible to use.The real P8 compass needle points north, like any other compass. There is no rotating compass card. Instead, a movable bezel is provided to adjust the scale to north, using the marked lines as a guide, then the heading can be read at the top of the scale. Alternatively, set the bezel so the desired heading is at the top, then fly so the needle points to N on the bezel. In the sim, the compass points to aircraft heading on a com…

I wanted to add a comment on the review by Kevin Boydston on Wilco/Feelthere's rendition of the Citation X business jet for FSX. I agree with the positive comments Kevin made, but I found the review not revealing some details I strongly feel the buyer should be aware of prior for an informed purchase. While an overall excellent rendition of gauges and aircraft in a nice package, I thought the add-on falls short in three areas, even after a service pack was released.1) the documentation is minimal and written in a tone that attempts at being funny but somehow comes across poorly. Statements such as "this is not treatise on the Citation X" seem inconsistent with the "Pilot …

First of all, nice review. It pretty much hit everything I like & don't about the the Apache, but I wanted to add a comment or three:1) In the Review Index, its listed as a Aerosoft product (along with the review of the AH-1).2) "I would like to have see more liveries. Currently there is only one for the AH-64A, the United States Army. Happily, there is a paint kit." The single paint was something of a let-down to me, as well. The paint kit has definitely helped on this point - there are almost a dozen very nice repaints here on AvSim.3)"The main difficulty I had was not landing tail-first. Unlike, say, the default Robinson, the Apache has a very low tail and it

I want to start off by saying the review wasn't bad, but there were a few comments I'd like to make, both good & bad:1: "Unfortunately, the flight loaded a Cessna, as do they all. I wonder why Alphasim opted to do this, as I would much rather have the Su-33 in a cold and dark state sitting there once my flight loaded. On top of this, I found the ATC screen to be squashed up against the side of the screen and both com radios tuned to the deck (tower) frequency, thus creating an echo effect."I do agree with this. I found it very, very odd. I don't even know how they got the ATC screen squashed like that. On the other hand, its easy enough to set up your own flights, …

I agree about the poor models and paints for FSXLive Traffic. You touched on it briefly, put from a different perspective, and that is that you can replace the models and paints with high quality freeware models and paints, such as those from EvolveAI, AI Aarvdark, or the Fruit Stand. The trick is, it takes a lot of work and patience, and some renaming of aircraft, textures, etc. but in the end, the freeware models make FSXLive so much better.Their are two other major issues with the accuracy of FSXLive traffic they have not yet addressed. One is that several regional carriers fly for mutliple airlines, yet only one paint is represented for that airline. For instance,…

Great review Chris of the scenery, but you forgot to mention that one airport seems to be missing in the package.Grand-case on the french side of the island is none existent.I would have thought that if fly tampa was modelling the whole island, they could have done Grand-case airport.just my 2 cents.

I was reading some of the reviews and when I read the T37 review. I know for a fact that the reviewers dont buy the products they review and even though this makes me jealous (I am not the only one mind you) I guess I can understand I dont have the patience to write a review, but anyways the reviewer said, quote "So I did not regret spending my money on it, and I am quite sure I will be flying it for some time in the future"Is this just to spice up the review or did you actually buy the product?Just a question, mind you. Nothing personal.

I've read Brian Fletcher's Aerosoft Beech D-18 review, looking closely at the screenshots to get a sense of the aircraft's quality. Frankly, the review was extremely disappointing -- putting it as nicely as I can. How can he claim that the Aerosoft product is "second to none" and then say that he doesn't have any D-18s on his system? "Second to none" in English means better than all the rest, but he doesn't have any "rest" to talk about. Almost 24,000 AVSIM users have Milton Shupe & team's freeware D-18C on their system -- as far as I can tell far superior to the Aerosoft model -- how come the reviewer doesn't? Fortunately, simmers don't have to spend good money befor…

Hello Mr. Shyluk,The review on the beaver was nicely written but I have a few concerns I think you should be aware of.1. In the review you state that if I don't own the trackIR, quote "Aerosoft BeaverX is perhaps going to be a monumental disappointment to you". I don't own a TrackIR and even though I am planning on purchaseing it in the future, beleive it or not I almost never use the 2d cockpit. So I think that statement was unnecesary because I think the addon is great eitherway. 2. Some problems I encountered in the "What I Don't Like About The Beaver X"-"Surreal Pier 39 scenery was difficult to fly in and out of": I think this is not important because you pay for the …

Just reading the new review of this fine aircraft, surprised that it wasn't done before this, I always wonder just many people over the pond actually have it? Its an appropriate and accurate review by the author, without the usually crass 'what I do like, what I don't like' at the end. In my opinion there is nothing not to like about this aircraft or indeed the designer. A truly gifted individual is Mr Maltby and we're very lucky for the choice of payware quality freeware in this community. I would have paid for this package and I would have been happy for the quality. My 10 euro worthGeorge Tyrrell

Well done Michael - pretty good review! It's such a pity that this is one aeroplane that doesn't get advertised very well, and most people are therefore unaware that it exists. I've been flying her for a year or two, now, and have enjoyed every minute of it! The panel is so very different from that of the average ga aircraft, isn't it? I find it SO immersive; doing aerobatics by "flying on the wing" is so rewarding when you "ace" a particular maneouver - and I love the "correctness" of the sounds; you can almost feel the turbulence as the brake extends. Yes - I have had issues with that barn door, too - but I think it is caused by a very finnicky install, and if improperly…

Only comment is on the fde - big airplanes are not necessarily 'sluggish' as Abacus and many others typically represent. I am not a pilot, but to paraphrase one of the 380 captains "you would expect it to be like piloting a large bus but it's more like a Porsche" and again "it is like riding a bicycle, very easy..."Those comments and my own experience with the highly touted 744 QOTS tell me this old fs assumption that 'big equals slow/sluggish' is often quite false.Imho Abacus is probably way off in that respect as well.regards,Markhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/a320/custbanner2.jpgPC Power Silencer 470/3.2HT/2048mb/ATI X1950pro/SB Audigyp.s. - just woke up, what the heck,…

what a review for the CS 757, Youd think it tops the Level-D and PMDG offerings just by reading it... don't tell anyone its a default airfile with no FMC, little support, awful sounds, and a boring 2d panel and resource unfriendly VCBut just the idea of saying the words fully functional and detailed is enough to push me over the edge of sanity. Sorry guys, thumbs down.

Only a minor criticism and I may have missed his point, but at least twice in his review the author states that the Yak 40 is unique among tri-jets in having centre engine thrust reverse.Last time I looked the 727, L1011, DC-10 and MD11 all had this feature. Not Russian, not regional jets, but all tri-jets just the same.If reviewers are going to give some historical background please keep it accurate.Kevin

Developers at ABACUS haven't seen pictures of advanced Carbon Fiber Gliders (in existance for about 20 years). The type of wing flex shown on Boeing's renders of the Dreamliner reflext Carbon Fiber wings and their typical flex when in flight. It will not stay in that ridiculous position on the ground as is shown on the review, that is a misconception. I hope they fix that. A.Pieper

I am confused to see that the reviewer of this scenery stated that one of the big lead downs was the absence of AI aircraft and static aircraft in the scenery. In no place does SimUdesign state that the scenery provide any sort of static traffic or AI traffic. The reviewer also stated that one thing he liked about the scenery is the fact it is framerate friendly, but you should also be aware that by adding static aircraft lowers the framerates. At the beggining of the review the author stated the little number of scenery addons he had. This leads me to conclude that he has little expereince with scenery and scenery design and does not know that there are free programs avai…

I prefer airports with no static aircraft... by now if you can't run flightsim9 with good AI packages and still get good fps its time for a new computer. Static aircraft are just in the way of my AI traffic and I can't stand airport released which make it difficult to remove.I applaud those developers who are leaving being crap static models or fps eating static from their airports.cheers!btw... I won't be buying this airport anyway, but not because of the review.

Hi,a quick comment on Gavin Hendrie's review: he remarks repeated on the lack of static aircraft, in fact it's the one thing from the review besides that had good frame rates that I can actually remember. I hate static aircraft, or more precisely, I hate having to remove them from sceneries. Static models seem to be universally hideous compared with the AI models from the likes of Aardvark, EvolveAI and Project AI. Personally I applaud a scenery designer for abandonning them. They are the "old" way to populate airports. I also applaud Simudesign for not clogging up my start menu or desktop with shortcuts I'll never use, but that's another rant.Gavin - do yourself a favour…

Hi - Gene Davis's review of the Tiger Moth says:"The Tiger Moth's first flight was on October 26, 1931 and the aircraft was widely received by the RAF as a trainer and first entered service with them in 1932. In total, there were over 4000 Tiger Moths built specifically for the RAF, with a total number of over 7000 by the time World War I was over."World War II, surely !best wishesGary
