September 25, 1924: Next stop was Crissy Field in San Francisco, along the route Boston II had a generator failure and had to land a fair ground a few miles south of the city. The other two planes circled and continued on after Wade and Ogdon signaled they were solving the problem. They landed at Crissy field at 3:10pm to a much more subdued reception than in Santa Monica, hundreds of solders guarded the parking ramp from the large but well behaved crowd. Meanwhile, a young truck driver asked Wade if he needed assistance, they agreed to exchange batteries when they discovered that the truck used a similar one. The driver refused payment so Wade invited him to meet th…

Took the Arrow III over the North Sea, from Newcastle on the North East coast of England, to Stavanger on the Western coast of Norway. A 3 hour trip with mixed weather challenges, and a basic Piper Autocontrol III autopilot with no altitude hold!! (no, I didn't cheat!). I was testing newly created Ortho4XP photoscenery of the Stavanger/Bergen area, along with @tonywob's fantastic Norway Pro as an overlay. As ever with XP11, all free and gratefully used. (Also using Tdg's excellent EGNT and ENZV airport sceneries).

Picked up the newly released Just Flight PA28R Arrow III for X-Plane 11 tonight. I now own this aircraft for 3 different platforms. And I can tell you, the XP11 version just bats it out of the park !! It is as stunning to fly as it is visually. Dan Klaue did an amazing job converting this a/c to XP11. Quite possibly the most immersive flying experience I've had in any sim. I'm only running a GTX770 4GB but with XP11.10b4's apparant performance upgrade, I've been able to increase settings and on this flight was getting a solid and stable 40+FPS. Click on each pic to see them in their full glory. (untouched pics and no visual/lighting mods).

Enjoying the sights in my two fav Xplane aircraft, the 172 and the Cirrus. Since I turned off the incoming network connections (I don't fly multiplayer), I noticed a huge improvement in Xplane's performance. I won't say how to do this, savvy simmers should know how to firewall incoming connections when they are not in use. Enjoy the screenshots! John

Enjoying the TBM 850 from Los Alamos to Phoenix..... My Father used to work in Los Alamos as a Health Physicist. His main role was to protect civilians from exposure to radiation and write regulations regarding the health of people who worked at nuclear facilities. He worked as a civilian for the Navy, out of Mare Island, under Admiral Rickover, and he wrote the book on safety regulations for the nuclear sub and surface vessel fleet. Then he transferred to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and inspected plants, hospitals and other nuclear facilities across the west coast, including Palo Verde near my home in Arizona. Rickover wanted to stop his transfer, he said the …

September 22, 1924: They left Tucson and flew west over the Crater and Growler mountains bound for San Diego, California. Before the flight started the flyers had taken test flights from the Douglas Factory in Santa Monica to San Diego and back so the citizens of San Diego considered there city as the starting point for the world flight. The city had been preparing for weeks for there arrival and promoted it as the biggest celebration in city history. Although the flight officially started in Seattle the flyers knew this also and were all lost in thought as they got closer to the coast. They were a hundred miles out when the first Air Service planes intercepted them, …

September 20, 1924: After only an hour they were able to repair the fuel pump on Boston II and add some fuel and oil to the tanks and they were off for El Paso, Texas. As the came in to park the crowd that was there to welcome them surged through the police line and surrounded them and prevented the flyers from servicing there aircraft. That evening there was another banquet where they were given more gifts of local significance. October 21, 2017: For the next leg I will be using the Beech King Air 350. Originally known as the Super King Air, the Super King Air family first flew in 1972 and is still in production, the longest production run of any civilian turbo…

I am so pleased Carenado updated the 550 to P3DV4 compatibility. I like it even over the 525, mainly for its autopilot, which works wonderfully. I slaved the Garmin 530 to the jet in a 2-D popup, so it is handy when I want to fly via the GPS. It's my favorite Garmin. Still loving the MSE scenery, it is a wonderful add-on, especially the lower resource intensive v2. MSE did a great job and it brings the sim up to commercial level sim realism for me. My neighbors who have dropped by to see it are so stunned by what they see, they can't believe a desktop computer can do all this. When I look back on the progression from FS2 all the way to now I am still amazed…
