Hi folks, just a little post to let you know that I HAVE been rather busy with this. The GeeBee is coming along OK - here's some 'work-in-progress' shots while you're waiting :-hahFirstly, fix the bleedin' oversized/overbladed/overdecorated prop. There, done! Oh well, it's black - I'll fix THAT later...http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc68d829f8723e.jpgMuch playing with texture mapping - too many hours staring at screens full of numbers - I know how 'codebreakers' felt :-( Then, some light at the end of the tunnel - I'm getting good at spotting 'x' coordinates !??! Some changes and fingers crossed... I created some colour swatches and applied them to check the mo…

Hi.I've been trying out the commented and modified flt3.cfg file available here on AVSim. It contains a couple of nice presets and explains how you can modify the haze yourself. However I'm not 100% happy with the haze and clouds. With the default .cfg, the clouds and sky looks pretty good. One problem is that the sky tends to be a little bit too bright (almost white) when flying low but it's not such a big deal. The haze looks good, but it's a bit too yellow. With the modified cfg file, the haze looks a bit deeper and more "real", but it's too redish. Also, the clouds turned white?!Basically, what I want is a more realistic haze color. Something a bit more on the grey-blue…

I'm just publicising here a bit of a problem I'm having with Jon's Clare Valley scenery. I have sent a complaint to him directly, but thought in the interests of air safety I should warn others about this basic design problem. There I was, having flown all the way from SEATAC (enduring endless abuse from controllers stuck in rule books), enjoying the pleasant scenery of mountains whizzing past the left wing tip and the gorgeous Clare Valley scenery. I did a perfect approach, close to stall, nice flare, touchdown, brakes, reversers. But all to no avail - next moment BOINGGG - I'm in the fence. Coffee all over the passengers (hmm - make a note - don't serve coffee on final…

I checked the Dell site today (as I do every day) to see if there was any progress on my new system. Each day it has told me that the projected ship date is November 4th. This afternoon it suddenly said that it shipped. Right at that moment Fox News Channel switched to "Breaking News..."... they showed a FedEx truck that had blown up and burned... I thought "Yeah right... just my luck!". But Dell has updated my system status again... my system is happily chugging along on UPS. Wheeew! With a little luck I should be up and flying early next week. :)

Hans mentioned using a joystick button to activate the thrust reversers on the Beechjet. Can someone explain to me how this is done ?Chris Low,ENGLAND.

I have said this before, but I'm going to say it again. I personally think that the aircraft brakes in FU3 are TOO good ! When I try slowing down the Beechjet entirely with the thrust reversers, it takes a considerable amount of time to slow down to taxi speed. However, if I also use the brakes, I can stop it incredibly quickly. An example of this would be my recent short flight from Flying B Airfield to Aero Plaza. Anyone who uses my modified Aero Plaza package will know that I created a small parking area at the western end of the airfield. I used runway 25 (which requires a rather scary approach right over the top of a couple of trees that are just short of the runway i…

Just found my samples from GeeBee paint practice before I gave up on the base model. Thought they might serve as good example of the problems involved with basic build..These were more of an exercise in "what does what" and not a full attempt at a finished product. I didn't even finish moving them around to fit better after seeing that the "mirror" was all wrong side to side, front to back and top to bottom.Note the engine detail is also the landing gear "pants" texture.I have since made much better textures for it, but did not want to waste time fitting them to a model that doesn't support them well. Here's what happens:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3db80ebf7af…

Here is a interesting problem, I have just re-installed FU3, flew around for a bit, then installed the Portland enhancment which gives you ATC control to Portland and San Fran, as well as other locations. After installing I went for a flight and noticed that there was hardly any radio chatter on 119.20 SeaTac control, all was silent apart from one or two aircraft.I removed the Portland enhancment, went for a flight and noticed that on 119.20 SeaTac control, radio chatter was again returned to being almost constant. After a bit of digging I found a line in the Airspace file, in the Seattle region, that readairspace[sea,X,0] = within[80 n];After installing the Portland enhan…

  10. Using values from DTE30 gives about 16x16 real elevation points for a megatile all the rest is fractal interpolation with a large zoom of 20. Result are rather bad as show here for the small island Lundy in the UK-Region.A better approach is much harder using elevation level lines from a map, coloring to level area, http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/elundy1.jpgthen resizing to the megatile size of 4096x4096 and then paste without the sea level on the megatile texture. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/elundy2.jpgAfter repainting the border to the sea to a correct level and painting the remaining sea level in black http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/elundy3.jpgit can the be imported with the newest vers…

The release of the DC-3 package shows that really good add ons for FU3 are still possible - but what I want to know, is, HOW is it done?WHAT programs are used to generate the models for FU3? Can G-max be used or is it something else, something more "high end"? My next question, is, no matter what the program - can it use meshes that are in DXF format as imports? Why I ask is that I have made many models for X-plane, and those meshes can be converted to DXF, I believe. Therefore we are more than halfway home to having some new aircraft for FU3 if I can supply those meshes - what we really need are some 19-30 seat commuter turboprops, like the BAe 31 Jetstream, Beech B1900D…

I have received today the photos I took of my new NAV receiver (the one I bought for 2 euro :) ). Here you are...This is the complete unit, working (without antenna, as I don't have it and don't know what to use):http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3db7e12a6af3d2fa.jpgThis is the unit disassembled;http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3db7e14a6b3e0bb1.jpgThis is the back of the unit. You can see the antenna connector, and the power/speaker connection. You can also see the battery plug I soldered to bring current to the unit :) !!!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3db7e1606b984372.jpgDo you believe me now? ;-)Cristian

I'm trying to repaint Ansgar's 747-400 but I'm having a little trouble with the winglet textures. I'm pretty sure I've been all through the files in resviewer, but I can't seem to find any texturemap for the winglets. Looking at a few of the other repaint jobs around I can't see anyone else who has repainted them either. Is there a texture at all for them or are they forced to that colour?Cheers,Rich.

Howdy sim fliersSay, I just cant seem to leave FU3 alone, you know? Keep coming back to it despite having had MSFS and still using X-Plane a LOT. FU3 has that certain something...However, I digress.... How do you change the call signs? I have the latest Kingair SCh350 which calls itself a baron and ATC calls it a Windhawk - I'd like to fix this so it says "kingair" at least one of the two, and preferably both. One of you talented guys out there must know.RegardsBrian D Ford

I've finally got my hands on Christian's UK region and I can't describe just how impressive it looks, I'd post screenshots but I need to sort out ftp through the firewall first.Anyway, I fired up FLED yesterday and placed a few beacons around in order to help my navigation. VFR with a road atlas and memory isn't very professional. I'm thinking about putting some runways down so that I'm not limited to flying out of London City or the Scilly Isles all the time. Has anyone built any airport models already?

My PC suffered from boot failure. More and more I heard that the fans started spinning as I turned it on and that was all I got. Finally it refused to boot on every attempt and I took it to my local "PC doctor". It turned out that my motherboard was damaged. I got another one, complete with a new processor. I'm currently at 1.2 Ghz and I'm anxious to see to what extent this improves the fps. However, I've disabled a sick drive and will get a replacement on Monday. Without the sick drive being plugged in my E drive reads as D. Since my flight simulators are set up with the path E:flight simulators... there's no point trying to launch them until I get this partition back as…

This morning I was in Porta Portese in Rome, it's one of those "bug markets", like Portobello in London... There was a man selling obsolete computer hardware, but I found something which puzzled me. Sure enough it didn't look like a PC peripheral, is had a more "aeronautical" look...... And it was a VOR! A massive, big, heavy, fully-digital (LCD) VOR receiver! I asked for the price, and the man wanted 3 Euros... I offered 2, and he accepted :( !!!Back home, I never hoped for it to work - But it works! Now I have a real working piece of a real big aircraft :) ! Will have to put it in my FU3 cockpits... ;-)Cristian

Dunno if it's all this talk about resurrecting the GeeBee R2 or what! Saw something spring-up over the weekend - looks like someone's planning an airshow :-eekUnfortunately, it's very close to SEA - my attempts to fly around it were greeted by some very unhappy comments from the ATC staff. Yes, more screenshots! As a results of people's comments regarding FU3's wonderful abilities in marginal weather simulation, and 'coz Chris is having soooo much fun with the Beechjet, I thought I'd post some shots of one of my favourite flights - from anywhere into Seattle at sunset. The last two shots were too dark - unless you want shots of the Beechjet's panel!I'm posting them here 'coz they get lost too quickly in the screenshots forum.Ready for takeoff!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3db35e537139d1bb.jpgAh! 24. My second flight in the Beechjet was an improvement. I started at Medlock Field (one of the airfields that I added to the San Francisco scenery region in SANFRAN 2002, which is just north of University (and right on the edge of the high resolution scenery area). Take off was flawless :-) and the flight to Travis Aero Club was normal. Now for the difficult part ! I was approaching the airfield from a direction that was similar to the orientation of the runway. I knew from experience which part of the terrain I had to pass over to line up for runway 22, and sure enough I was on an almost perfect approach path when I spotted the runway, and I am happy to report that I kept th…
