Yesterday I started a flight at Orange, CA in the Beechjet. The sim loaded fine and I got the plane unto the runway. As I accelerated for take-off it suddenly crashed to the desktop. Then I tried Van Neus and San Diego and ran into the same problem -- it loads all right but the sim crashes during the take-off roll.I've got a backup copy of the entire sim without a proper generation of megatiles. I tried this one and everything worked fine. I landed at LAX, which looked like a Midwestern town in the middle of green generic textures. (Without "generate_outer_megatiles" and then "use_loose_megatiles" there's no proper allocation of textures and no shoreline).Anyway, my outer…

I have included the cities of Bristol and Bath, plus Cardiff and Newport.I still have to do 3 megatiles to "regularize" the shape of the area, and to fill a gap (the two water tiles NE of Bristol!) This would take some time though, as I don't have the data for them. I'll have to download them by hand, and it will be time consuming. And I think I'll have to stop after those tiles, as it's becoming too expensive for me (last phone bill was 169 Euro! :-() If one day we'll have ADSL service in my town, and I'll get it, maybe I'll start again... :)After these three tiles, I'll continue tweaking the land classification, to remove water from the runways. As soon as I've "dried" t…

With all this talk about new planes and paint schemes, has anyone considered developing an improved VFR cockpit for the KingAir 350 ? We really do need a VFR cockpit that obscures far less of the forward view than the current version. Is anyone prepared to accept the challenge ?Chris Low,ENGLAND.

This is just a wild idea from a sidewalk supervisor,We've got a good hi-res area for southern England now and one for Switzerland. I haven't installed either one yet but I will. I'm going to set up a separate installation of FU3 for these since the sim doesn't care for registry entries. (Just copy your entire directory and paste it into another folder and it will run just fine). What I'm thinking is, could we expand the current hi-res areas? Using aerial photos we might connect the Seattle and the San Francisco regions. Yes I know, this is really no novel idea since Bluejay did dabble into some Canadian areas. Still, Quaxo has proved that it can indeed be done and what wou…

It's not even on my Map any longer ? I did add some scenery packages up there. Am I losin it or what ? ? ?> Jim

Hello all. I recently got back into FUIII and have been enjoying many of the enhancements available here, especially the DC-3. That is a very nice piece of work! My question is regarding adding scenery add-ons. I number of them ask me to install to my "packages" folder under my "flight 3" folder, but I do not have one. I just did a fresh installation when I got back into FUIII and also added in my old FUII SF scenery and installed the patch. Can I just create the folder, or do you think there may be a problem with my installation?

Hi AllHow big a deal is it to design new planes?I quite fancy an RAF chipmunk!I would be grateful if people could point me to the places to read (or even answer directly) the following questions.Repaints seem easy - bmps and resviewer right?Flight dynamics - how do you tamper with these? Tools already written?Cockpits - these look difficult - how? and how long?Anything else needs considering??Rob

Hi All,I seem to be having some interactions between downloaded planes in /plnpile and I was wondering if the experienced lot already knows what this is.It seems to involved repainted versions of downloaded planeseg DC3 V1.2 and DC3 V1.1 (military) don't seem to allow FU3 to runeg DC3 floats in the origina and military livery cause a lockupeg storch in red and luftwaffe causes a crashHowever repaints (gg3, bb3 and t6 blue) and new cockpits in the mustang and the racing/swiss army mustang all seem very happy!Whats going on?Rob.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. I just reinstalled FU3, after not using it for about a year. I had used a flt3.cfg, and a joykeys.cfg that allowed me to make use of my CH 3-lever yoke, and my CH foot pedals. Unfortunately, the floppy that I had them saved to got trashed. I searched the forum for replacements, but I have had no luck. If someone out there has either or both of those files, I would appreciate having them sent to me at [email protected] a lot.Joe

The Heathrow package uploaded yesterday was missing some models and textures - these have now been uploaded as a correction to the Heathrow package. My apologies to all those who downloaded the package, then got hard-disk crashes as a result. FU3 is very unforgiving of this sort of mistake.Cristian tested the package. I need to say that this was not Cristian's fault at all - his beta-test version was modified before upload, and the modifications produced the mistake. My fault. And he was very quick to test the new version and notify me of the error. All you need to do is download the correction zip file, and unzip the contents into your regionsuk-southgen directory. If any f…

Version 2 has been uploaded to AVSIM.This version adds runways, taxiways, lighting, new models, and improved landscaping. If you have not installed version 1, then install version 1 first. This has three parts, HTR1A.zip, HTR1B.zip and HTR1C.zip. The last two parts (1B and 1C) are essential for the package to work. These three files were uploaded on 15th December 2002 so should be easy to find. Once you have installed version 1, follow the instructions included in the package (text file "Heathrow2.txt").I am very happy with the fuel tanks. My whole family are laughing at me because I keep telling them to come and look at the textures on these new tanks - they are shiny and…

Some of you have experienced problems after installing everything in my Seattle 2002 pack. It seems that several airfield packages result in FU3 crashing to the desktop. However, it now seems (as I suspected) that the problem is caused by having outer terrain scenery installed.........and the airport icon limit is almost certainly to blame.I originally thought that the airport icon limit only affected both high resolution scenery regions. However, the problems with SEATTLE 2002 seem to indicate that, when outer terrain scenery is installed, the OT airports themselves contribute towards the number of airports in each high resolution region. Since my SEATTLE 2002 pack inclu…

Hi Ansgar, please excuse me for being this plain and direct, but I think this is a question that somehow has to be made:One year has gone by since you released your great 747, and some 8 moths since your absolutely fantastic DC-3. Simply put: is there any chance you'll be coming out with a new flyable model for FU3 sometime?I think that would be the only way to stop FU3's slow but steady agony, and to prevent our community from dwindling away. In my eyes anyway. Thanks once again for all the great work you've done so far and best regards.

Well it wasn't very well attended... but we had fun. Daniel Biosca said that it was very informative. Probably because he was the smart one amoung us... he asked specific questions about subjects he was interested in and hopefully got some good answers. The rest of us pretty much just spent our time BSing... and answering Daniel's questions of course. ;-) Wish more of you could have made it. With this level of attendance we may not have many more.

Remember the Pt.Reyes area in the San Francisco region.http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/ptreyes.jpgThe next version of GeoTilesViewer (v 3.0) will support import / export of terrainelevation from the geotiles.tag file. We can just load an work on a quarter of a megatile using a grid of 129x129 meshes due to a limitation of Gmax to a plane of 200x200 segments max. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/gm0_abag.jpgThe maximum usable texture is that of level 3 of fu3. There is then 4 pixel between mesh points.http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/gm1_abag.jpgEditing is limited to the z axis only, then import function will just extract the height data.http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/gm2_abag.jpgThe height are in km so 0…

I found this under a technical description of the upcoming NVIDIAS GPU:".......Older GamesThe high-precision GeForce FX architecture also improves the visual quality for previously written games. Higher precision results in more detailed texture blending. This helps all games written in either DirectX 7.0 or DirectX 8.0............"Only hope that the limitation of FUIII's 16 bit resolution does not prevent new graphics hw and sw to bring about benefits as Radeon's new line does not seem to provide much improvement - or has anybody any other experience?rgrdsTorsteinNorway
