I have FU3 with FU2 San Fran scenery added and realised today that - with the default graphics settings - the water in the Seattle area is black whilst water in the San Fran area is the normal blue colour [as when FU2 was installed on its own]. The only way I can get the Seattle area water to show as a sensible colour is to increase the Gamma correction to about 7/8 of max. Then, of course, the rest of the scenery and cockpit panels are the incorrect textures and colours.I am running a AMD 2000XP with a GE Force 2 Ultra graphics card so would not expect any graphics problems from the system.V grateful for any help in restoring FU3 water textures to correct colours [is i…

Those of you interested in developing models and aircraft for FU3 may have heard of Anim8or, the freeware 3D animation program. Well, R.Steven Glanville (author of Anim8or) was so impressed by the GeeBee as a 3D model, he's posted a couple of shots in his gallery!http://www.anim8or.com/gallery/gallery12/index.htmlThis seems rare to say the least - the last thing I expected when taking on the development was achieving something good enough to be considered on it's own merits, not just how it flies :-) ...and it hasn't even been released yet ;)To be truthful, the beta wouldn't have looked so good if it wasn't for Lloyd Schoenbach who did a beautiful GeeBee R2 in Anim8or (in…

An FU3 user has e-mailed me, asking for help with the following problem:-I have a PIII 750 384mb with a MSI NVIDIA MX440 card using Dir X 8.1 and the UK 2.0 patch. Flight 3 is working on the initial screens. However when 'fly' is selected the Map Terrain is shown as normal, but when the programme says 'Model Cache' (just before it calculates the A.I. routes) the programme pauses for approx 5 seconds and fails, reverting back to Windows 98. I have fiddled with also resolution and graphics settings within the programme but no luck; it always crashes at this exact point. What is strange is that the programme worked fine until my Hard Drive failed, necessitating a replaceme…

I recently returned to FU 2&3 after some 18 months absence and, as expected, was impressed with its performance with a faster CPU and modern graphics card. However, an old problem still remains - it is impossible to land the P51 correctly and I have never seen such a "slippery" prop aircraft. Set it up in a smooth descent at 700 - 900 fpm, throttle at idle, full flap and 120 knots and as you round out it floats - and floats - and floats. Eventually the speed reduces to less than 100 kts as you cross the far end of the runway! If you approach at slower speeds [90 - 100], the aircraft is unstable in roll and yaw and impossible to control accuately. Interstingly the…

For those with the pre-Beta GeeBee, firstly, my apologies for the crashy issue. Indeed there appears to be an issue and it seems to be related to the cockpit setup(!). Due to time constraints, I hadn't done much taxiing for a while, all I was interested in was landing and takeoff (which I did from the quick flight screen). Last night I jumped in at NRA, fired her up and let the brakes go - bang! Helloooooo desktop :-eekThe fact that Steve's having problems with the cockpit leads me to believe it may have something to do with it. The other thing is model position and contact points. You may remember the logbook/taxiline problem with the DC3? Well, the GeeBee DID have the s…

Does anybody know where I can hold of a copy of FU3? I've owned it since it came out but discovered during a re-install that my CD is scratched and will no longer read! I've tried the list of places to purchase it at the top of the forum but have had no luck as yet. Best wishes, gedmet

Hi,Just a quick question. Is the ATIS linked at all to the flight time/weather setup? I just tried three times to set up a flight in sunny conditions at 14.45, with 75f on the thermometer. I then clicked accept and went to the plane. Tuned in ATIS to be told one time that it was 10.15, -15 and partly cloudy, another time that it was 22.22, 5f and some cloud at 3000'. I checked the season and I have it set to summer time. The thing is I think she may be right, coz there was no blue sky and the sun was pretty low in the sky. Am I doing something wrong between setting up the conditions for the flight and actually entering the plane? Like I said I just clicked on Acce…

I'm going to reload FUIII now that I have a shiny new computer. I will load II and III. I haved strolled through the library for interesting files, but I have been out of the loop recently. Can y'all suggest a couple of "Must Have" files? I do have the patch (assuming its the only patch). Also, can someone point me to the tips and tricks. I remember there were some changes that could be made in the configuration files, but I don't have that info anymore. Any help getting me restarted with this sim would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

... to compensate for the bad things in life. It's as simple as that. For several months now, I've been working so hard on the UK scenery project, I've spent countless hours, and an almost ridiculous amount of work on it... just to realize that it isn't enough. It can't help. Because a simulator can distract, that's true... but at last you turn off the pc, and find yourself with the same problems. And the same low points. Which won't go away... a simulation is just that - a simulation, and can be nice, funny, can improve your passion and your knowledge and your skill, but can't help your life, or replace what you've lost... especially when you look inside yourself, and see…

I just upgraded my computer to P4 2.53 ghz w/DDR400 and I have a GFti4400 128meg card. FU3 runs like never before - just plain awesome. However, I always get the sam stuttery low frame rate when flying through hazy clouds in bad weather. I can't figure it out but the system slows down from 60+fps down to the teens in FPS. I had the same slow downs on my old slower Athlon 1.33ghz. Is there anything I can change in the settings to prevent the terrible frame rates when flying in bad weather clouds.I have no problems in other clouds and frame rates overall our excellent.knader

Since I messed up the release of version 2 of Heathrow, I have fixed up a new version. This is being tested for bugs at present and will be released soon. But here are some pictures and some info on the new version. The most striking feature is night-lighting - the airport looks like a little city now at night, and I only wish I had know about this feature before because it increases the flying experience. But I have also (with help from Rob and Richie) installed ILS. The runways at night now have sequencers, end (REIL) marking, centrelines, edges, localiser beacon, glidepath, inner/middle/outer markers (at made-up frequencies), frangible approach lights and taxi turnoff li…

Hi to all GeeBee fans! Here are some preview shots of the upcoming 'Beta' version. The entire aircraft has currently been shipped to the Steve Hess Cockpit Factory for the new cockpit and should be back for certification shortly ;)After countless hours of model editing and texturing, I think I have almost reached the limit of what can be done in FU3! Actually, when I first saw the new textures I found it hard to believe I was lookng at 256 colours! BTW, 100 more polygons and it crashes to the desktop...Meanwhile, the pix. At the parking spot. (with apologies to Mozart).Jon and I have solved the night lighting problem. I knew he would. But to be fair, the credit belongs to Tomi Lehto again - he solved night lighting about four hundred thousand years ago but I just didn't find it - in a little package about lighting runway/taxiway signs at night. I have adapted his method, and now any scenery object can be night lit quite well. I will give technical details in the next tutorial version of making scenery - its not hard but its got some messy bits to explain to do with reversing palette directions and only 32 colours working - all yellow. But if anyone else is making models and needs the details urgently, email m…

Hi all,Very new to this game having only got it just at the end of last year. I was trying to install the Switzerland scenery. I followed the instructions and started the game. The regions now listed Switzerland along with Sanfran and Seattle. But when I clicked on it the game just locked up. Tried several times with the same result. Anyone able to give me a step-by-step on how to install the scenery and get it to work! If I can get up and running with Switzerland I'd then like to try out the scenery being put together for the south of england - as I hail from the UK.Thanks,Duke
