A forum for the Flight Unlimited series of simulators from Looking Glass Software. If you are an FU enthusiast, here is the largest and most active forum on the Internet for your simulator!

  1. ATI has released version 3.1 of their Catalyst driver software. One of the new features is support for FSAA at 16bit on Radeon 9700/9500 cards.FSAA at 16bit was not possible before on those cards, because the advanced FSAA method required 32bit. It seems ATI has now figured out a way to do it in 16bit.It's now possible to play FU3 with up to 6x FSAA on the Radeon cards and it looks SWEET combined with 16x Aniso :)Here are some shots.

Xicat bought the Flight Unlimited code from bankrupt Looking Glass and, unfortunately, published a pretty crappy version of their halt finished combat version of FU3, called "Janes Attack Squadron". Read the review, and the confirmation that the title was based on the LG product here:http://pc.ign.com/articles/358/358587p1.htmlNow, Xicat has a game listed on EB called "Janes Civilian Flight Sim", due out in March of this year. Check it out here:http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/prod...sp?pf_id=229095I think the odds that this is based on the FU code base are pretty good. Could this be FU4 at last?!?John

Hi All,I have had FU2/3 software for a long time but I could not install it because my h/drive was to small. So at long last I have got a new h/drive, so now I can install FU2/3.I am a VIP2/3 texture designer for online flying with FS2002, I live in the UK between Gatwick + Heathrow Airports.I have been looking at what you guys do, is there any chance I can get a copy of the cd's for the UK scenery.I will pay if required. Many thanksSteve Atkinson

The new UK update CD is really near now, and I need a little advice from you. There are quite a lot of improvements and additions in this new disc; so I thought it might be better to change the previous "update method" for this disc. For the previous updates, I only added the new or changed files, and they had to be copied over a pre-existing, working UK-South install. Now I thought it would be easier to add, in the new CD, the whole UK region folder, with all the files (except the old terrain files of course, as they are on the other 7 CD's). This would be easier for everyone, in my opinion:1- Who already has a working UK-South folder, can just rename it to something else,…

Jim,I bought Janes Attack Squadron last week and have come to really like it! I am one of the few i am afraid.... I think one of the strongest reason for why i like it is that i feel quite at home ;-) For example, many of the key-bindings are just the same as in FU3. The light and reflections from the sun feel just right and you feel very much "there" and in control. As i know you are something of a "fish in the water" when it comes to JAS i simply have to ask you: "Where are the downloads?" The issue is that i seem to be unable to locate any add-ons at all for it!?I have found a few here at AVSIM but there really must be more, right? No matter what, JAS is my cup of te…

I want to add the VFR "roses" to the FU3 UK map. I don't know the exact name, but look at the attached file: I need one of those, but without all the background image. This way, I can overlay it on the existing map, in the proper locations. I have been searching for a "clean", black and white VFR rose to scan, but couldn't find any. If someone has one, and can send it to me via email or post it here, I would try to put it into the map... This would help IFR flying in the UK! It should be quite high-res if possible, at least 500x500 pixels, to give good results in the scaling/rotating process...Cristian

Gentlemen:I'm back in full-force, loving FU 3 even more than before. I can't believe how much fun this sim is. I've tried many flight simulators and FU 3 will always be my favorite. After some upgrading, tweaking, fixing panels, and improving cfg file, I'm ready to download scenery. Please tell me what I need. I'm interested in large areas (i.e. England, and Switzerland) and anything else that I can purchase or dowload for free. Please include where can I get it and how can I install it. Links will be great. Thanks very much.JoseCFI, CFII

Gentlemen:Althought FS 2002 has taken me away from FU for a little while, my heart is still with FU3. Need to know how to keep the taxi lines on without having to always enable it with shift_f11. Is there a line I can add to the cfg file? Also, can you offer advice as to what lines to add to the cfg file to eliminate the lines in the sky caused by the Geforce card? Thanks in advance,JoseCFI, CFII

Just a quick note to the builder of the geebee. Just downloaded it and i love it. In the readme, you say that the panel (F3) is a work in progress. A man by the name of steve hess had made a panel for the Gee Bee that was all set and ready to go. I might contact him. however, you may already know this.Great to be back!Jim

I've been unable to log in for a couple of days and this may go for some of you guys too. The thing is, Avsim has changed it's log-in procedure to include a "referral to the previous page". If you have Norton Internet Security the default setting is to block "referral" or "information about visited sites". Thus, my 2003 version of Norton started blocking the Avsim log-in until I clicked "permit" for "information about visited sites". There's a thread on the Help Forum that addresses this issue.best regards,Hans Petter

Is anyone else on this forum experiencing problems with downloads from Daniel Lindstrom's Unlimited Design website ? I cannot get anything to download at a sensible speed. I have tried downloading the Learjet 45, but it stops and starts irregularly, and the average transfer rate drops to below 500 bytes per second ! When I tried this with the KingAir 350, it downloaded a total of 2.79Mb of the 6Mb+ file in ONE HOUR, and then failed.Daniel is well aware that I am having problems, but I would like to know if anyone else here is suffering in a similar manner :-)Chris Low,ENGLAND.

As all the beacons for a region are stored in a single file (beacons.fld), if a developer makes some new navaids, and then another developer makes other navaids, the new ones will overwrite the old ones. So, the solution is to keep the beacons.fld file as updated as possible. There is a possibility: I could keep the most recent file. Then, when a new user wants to add some beacons, he can email me, so I send him the most up-to-date file; he adds the new beacons, and sends the file back to me. This way no previous work would be overwritten. What do you think? Is there an easier way to prevent overwritings?Cristian
