Hi,Having experimented with the Light() command for iluminating posts I came across a problem that one would get on non flat areas.In fact the light beam is made of a light cone (only seen when visibility is less than 5nm) and a projected light on the ground. The problem is with the ground projected light. It goes high and down depending on the altitude above ground of the viewer. If there is a valley near the airport, the ground projected light descends (becoming larger and disappearing after a few meters) when the viewer goes to the valley. If there is a mountain, the ground projected light rises in the air (becoming smaller until it becomes a point when it reaches the …

Hi all.I've uploaded the fix for Prince Edward Island to the Library. I inadvertantly left out a thank you to Christian Fumey for Ground2K, and to Winfried Orthmann for his new version of BGLAnalyze. I am now busily assigning Landclass tiles to my chosen area. My problems with textures are over (no fault of Ground2K here, rather my FS installation). So the only thing I need is 1024 times click the mouse to cover fully my LOD8 with Landclass.My plan is that I first assign all landclass tile 32x32, refine shorelines, and then I am planning to start making VTP polys for forrest areas and towns and villages. In the end I'll cover all with network of roads and railways. Is this right plan of work? I now have a number of API macros, some I put togther myself with Gmax and Fsregen and some I downloaded.I suppose I am getting a litle more fussy, but there are a number of (minor) problems that I would like to fix:1. No crashing, I can't crash into API objects, I can if I just export the same object directly from Gmax, Fsregen seems to remove the crash property. Is there a way to recover this?2. I have several static aircraft that I downloaded that have no shadows. Is there a way to make the shadows work? they look a little strange without. Objects that I make in Gmax, and then convert with Fsregen do have shadows.3. APIs that have bases (or floors in the case of a hang…

Hi everybody,looking to MS scenery files with VTP Polygons of non-line type I noticed, that they contain one point more than needed to draw the poly: the last point seems always to be identical with the first point. Does anyone know whether there is any advantage to that? I do not find anything about that in the SDK. Also interesting: the point sequence is either clockwise or anticlockwise, so that seems to make no difference.-osman

Hi, I have constructed in gmax a complex, but low poligon version of the terminal of my Native city airport. (SKBO). I am in the process of adding the Hangars, manteinance buildings etc. I want the aiport to be completed totally in gmax.I would like to add several details as Aircraft stairs, vehicles, etc all of them constructed in gmax. even the taxiway signs. the problem is the following, I locate the coordinates of the objects to be placed in FS, how do I translate this in gmax? I can barely do trial and error to have the complex gmax escene to fit every element in place or build several blg's from single objects to be placed in an airport.Do I have to use another…

Hi everyone, I'm not having any real problems with my scenery design and read Dick's posts over and over. :-) What is happening is that when installing a new scenery I get a FS crash with the msg that an error in Facilities.dll has occured. After the sim shuts down a 1.2 gigabyte index file is written to my main FS folder. This doesn't happen with all .afd files because I have a lot of add on afd files for various sceneries installed. But, lately any scenery I install that has an .afd file causes this. If I remove the .afd file there is no problem. Anyone ever see this?Thanks,Rob

Ground2K 1.2 - Windows XP 1ghz/512mbI click the LC icon. The selection box appears with a picture of the selected landclass textyre. Make selection. Click OK. Grey dashed vertical lines appear in the grid. BGL generation proceeds normally. However, in FS2002 no change appears to the landclass nor to anywhere in the vicinity. I selected REEF in order to make the change obvious.I have been using Ground2k for two days to modfy lake shorelines and correct the default roads. EXCELLENT program. Very well done. It is very obvious the amount of time expended on it. Have not ventured into all areas but at least roads, streams, and excludes work very well. Landclass is the current …

Hey guys,I've been tinkering with Coast Line Maker and have to say that by far it is the best thing out there. However, I'm coming across something that is making me pull my hair out by the fistfull. I have seen many tools for FS2002, but most of us only have a limited knowledge of many of the tools. Some require several others to even attempt to construct a scenery. I for one would like to see a program that would gather USGS or other data for a defined area and allow editing adding mising roads Lakes or other features prior to compiling.I have found many but most are frustating, and some have no documentation.Wouldn't it help to develop a list of known programs and what they can or can not do, or say for example one wants to add up to date land coverage transportation or hydrography to each one degree tile, what programs are best to acomplish this. I know that LOD 8 Cells have to be sorted in the LWMIndexEntry table. But I can't remember if it's by columns then rows or the other way around. Also, does anyone know if the LOD 13 Areas within a cell also need some form of sorting?ThanksLee.

Hallo,with the resample.Exe ( SDK 2002) i have created some Custom Terrain Textures.Some of the bmp.s have a black border. I have saved the bmp.s as 8-bitand then i have made the images transparent with BSP2000 by Martin Wright.But the background was always "water". How can i change this ?The "optical" background outside the the custom textures is desert, and that is what i want.Is there a solution ?Please step by step, because i'm a beginner in scenery design.Many thanksWolfgang

Hi all,I see in Imagetool under 'Alpha' that some standart 8-bit textures have a 'colorkey'. What is that and how can I achieve it? I know it's for showing e.g. fences transparent but when I load such a texture in PaintshopPro and modify it, then saving it again, this 'colorkey' is gone when loading the new texture into Imagetool.How do I get this 'colorkey' back into my new (also 8-bit) texture?Thanks in advance,Rainer

Hello all. Me and a guy named Matt from the Project AI forums are teaming up to make a brand new FS2002 compatable GMAX Detroit. We are looking for Radius AFCAD designers, someone who can make a landclass file, someone who can make good apron and terminal textures to look real, and some good modern satilite photos that include the new runway and the new Midfield terminal. You don't need all there qualitys, just one or more of them. We need help and are looking forward to relasing the scenery to AVSIM once it's done. Thanks for all of your help. :-kewl

I'm a beginner and wanted to add a new airport NZWD McMurdo Station Williams Field. This airport is located on the Ross Ice Shelf off of Ross Island Hut Point. The ice shelf is not modeled in FS2k2. In fact, I don't see any texture at all in the ocean here.I am using FSSC which seems a little easier than Airport 2.60. I used the winter tundra deafult texture to create the airport area, which doesn't look too bad. The field elevation is 58 ft but my airport appears to "float" above the water, rather than look like it rises out of the water. When viewed from above, the new scenery straight down is set correctly, but areas towards the horizon appear to move against the…

Just a thought - If I produce a terrascene bmp with a solid background of a specific color and with roads their normal colors, can the solid color somehow be declared transparent to allow the underlying FS2002 textures to show through??Dick

Hi all.I hope this is not too off-topic - but I found no "special" forum at AVSIM for it and it directly relates to scenery design...As a freeware developer I ran into a problem that most other freeware authors must have come across - so I'd like to discuss this topic to find a suitable solution:As most of the freeware authors I don't want my software to be bundled with commercial packages - but you have to "check" that yourself or depend on the freeware community to report any "violations". I created a terrascene area which obviously has superior road and coastline placement. It lacks autogen of course. An issue is that the texture placement in terrascene seems much les sophisticated than FS2002. The picture below shows the obviously repetitive pattern and also the adjacent FS2002 textures. The FS2002 area is landclass keyed by the FS Genesis landclass files. Also notice, as an aside, the close match of the road.Does anyone know of a way to improve the integration of textures in terrascene so as to produce a more random appeareance?Dick
