  1. I sent the following e-mail today requesting information, and received the following answer. Based on this, I'd like to ask you intelligent flight simmers for your opinion on how I should proceed. What would you do?MY E-MAIL TO IMAGINESIM:Good morning,I've been patiently building up my scenery for the Denver and Front Range areas of the Colorado Rockies. I've been holding off purchasing your (IMAGINESIM'S) Denver airport upgrade (but plan to do so if it will work seamlessly with the other products I've purchased and freeware I've installed.) I'm still awaiting shipment of MegaCity Denver, which will be released on March 7th. I hope you can provide clarification for me…

Curious if there are any drawbacks to using LWM2 for airport flattens? It doesn't seem like there should be, except that MS is using LWM3 for some reason.scott s..

This is going to have such a simple answer, so I'm sorry, but...... how do you join 2 objects together in gmax? I've got 2 objects as editable meshes, and I want to make them the same object so I can join them together with polygons, but I can't for the life of me find out how to do it.

Hi,Sorry if this is the wrong place for such a topic, but I am searching now for days...I have setup an aircraft carrier (using an API "Carrier" from fs-shipyards) and made it landable, with Airportforwindows 2.6 and FS2002,but I cannot start from this location. I always get the message that in order to avoid a collision with an object, I must choose another location.I have also the problem that I can only place one carrier at the time. Strange also, that once I could start from the right location after installing a second carrier. So I must have overseen something.Greetz. Jos

Had an interesting problem last night trying to alpha mask some of my scenery tiles to cut out a lake. Created the black/white masks of each of the pictures and used FSTexConvert to create the DXT1/Alpha files for FS9. Nearly all the images converted just fine but a few of them balked and wouldn't mask properly no matter what I did to the alpha mask image. After many hours of pulling my hair out I finally tried to image them as DXT3 files and they worked just fine. Used the image tool utility to then convert them into the DXT1 format. My guess is that those particular images had too many colors used in them for FSTextConvert to deal with. Am I right in this case? W…

The image below shows ImageTool display overlayed on top of DXTBmp. The Imagetool shows the alpha channel ok but DXTBmp does not. I need to modify the alpha channel but if DXTBmp won't allow this what tool do I use to extract the alpha channel for modification? The item is a streams texture.Dick Boley @KLBEhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/107585.jpg

Hi all, I have this problem with a gmax building and it's driving me nuts ... I just can't find the answer. I had had 3 LODs and everything worked fine. I've named them xxx_LOD_10 etc. and they're all linked to a dummy object. I later opened the groups to make some changes, and after re-compiling some of the textures had gotten all blurry in-game. I then tried adding LOD's, corrected the names ("_010"), I re-linked everything, etc. but nothing seems to help. I then gave up on linking and just compiled the groups, still to no avail. Has anyone had this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated...-Daniel

Hi all.Was wondering whether someone might be able to clear up something for me about auotogen in FS8 and FS9.I understand that the autogen density is higher in FS9 (as compared to FS8), but I'm not quite sure why. I'm not sure whether it's because the ground tile annotation is more complex, or that FS9 allows more autogen to be displayed within the pilot's field of view. I suspect it's the latter, but it'd be nice if someone could confirm my thoughts on the matter.Anyone got any ideas?Cheers,Matthew.

Could anyone help please?I have created some scenery by mainly changing the lanclass values, but overlaying it with some VTP2 polys. The problem is the sim takes ages to read these polys and there are gaps within them (not where I joined them though). Is there any way to reduce this effect or get rid of it completely? Thanks in advance.Colin

Is there any way of getting more detailed lat/long coordinates when moving around in top-down view? For some scenery I'm trying to place, I need a bit more precision than 1 arcsecond.

I've been looking at altitudes generated by AFCAD. I'm finding what appears to me to be inconistent UI and handling.1. If you set units to feet (uncheck units in meters), you can enter altitude of the AP ref point and runways (haven't tried other elements)to 0.1 feet, and internally, it appears that AFCAD is converting this to 0.01 meters. However, in the UI property sheet, the alt is rounded to 0.1 meters.2. If you set units to meters, you can enter altitude of AP ref point to 0.01 meter, though once again the display is only to 0.1 meters.3. If you set units to meters, you can enter altitude of runways, but they are displayed and saved only to the nearest meter, th…

I am having great difficulty with FS Nav and Traffic View Board observing AI helicopters landing on oil rigs. Each rig has an associated flatten at sea level and the afcad is at the pad height. If I slew to the rig using either the FS Map option or either of the two aforementioned programs, the sea and hence the rig is raised to the pad height. The flatten is in the same scenery area as the rig. Might it be better in a different area either with higher or lower priority than the rig area ?Here is a view from TVB:and here from a nearby rig:GeorgeThanks to ImageShack for (http://www.imageshack.us) for Free Image Hosting

  17. Back to the resource - you guys!I'm importing Slarti-generated BLN files into sbuilder, and I'm having some issues with the resulting scenery. First, I used SBuilder to select VTP lines I wanted to make nice white sand beaches from, using the default import settings (except for texture) which means the VTP shores were set to layer 7. The resulting BGLs cause all airport masks (those grassy polygons) in the region to disappear. The beaches aren't even necessarily close to the airport, though the resulting bgl spans the whole region. I assumed it was because they were on layer 7 also. I have yet to change to layer 8 and recompile...but:More recently, I've tried to make…

I have attemted to create a new airport for 2004 with FSSC, but the output is a 2002 type AFD file. So far, my forum searches haven't turned up anything about how to create the AF2 correctly, so that all facility info is recognized and shows the new airport in the 2004 airport menu list. Can anyone point me to a thread or tutorial on this?

Hi folks.I've been installing new runway and concrete textures and notice that the concrete is only for taxiways. The rest of the apron areas are still that smudgy browny grey effect. Is there a replacement texture for that or is there a way to extend the new concrete texture to take in the rest of the aprons. Can I replace the apron texture bmp ( once I find it ) with the new concrete one? Or is that too simple? Thanks

Hi all,OK. I create a object using Gmax. Then export it using the middleman/makemdl package and send the resulting asm, and bgl files to my fsregen directory where I have my bglc executable stored.Now. Once I have compiled a bgl for the object using FSREGEN, then using FSREGEN create a "api" file which I copy to AIRPORT-210 directory, and of course copying the fsregen compiled bgl to my FS2K2 ADDONSCENERY DIRECTORY,I then use AIRPORT-210 to place the api in various airports. No problem. I see the object appear at all the airports.NOW. I would like to modify the original Gmax file, recompile it with rsregen etc.. OFFCOURSE I would use the original GUID Library number…

HI,I'm relatively new to FS9 and computers in general and I have no programming experience. However, I've been experimenting with XML, BGL, BMP, and JPEG files. I sort of understand the relationship between XML and BGL files and JPEG and BMP files but I'm confused on the relationship between the BMP and BGL files.I've been using the excellent program "Rwy12Object Placer v.1.1" by Israel Roth and Seev Kahn to place objects at my airport. Say I have a BMP file with several objects: i.e., a BMP file that has a chair, table and tent as the objects to place - I assume each of these objects has a texture file of it's own somewhere. In Rwy12, an object is chosen, placed, an XML …

Hi everybody!I would like to know something about good practise for installing sceneries. I would like as many as possible to contribute to a discussion about this issue.I have experienced problems with a third part add-on called FlightSim Commander (FSC) after installing a scenery. FSC can - besides a flightplan function - draw a draw a map on my screen showing all airports and navaids, jetroutes, victorroutes etc etc. In order to get its information the FSC has a so-called Database Manager. This Database Manager is reading the different BGL-files in the FS9 main- and subfolders. In the specific scenery (greek scenery from Hellenic Scenery Project) the designers has mov…

Hi everyone,I'm fairly new to flight sim scenery design, but I've managed to create some photo scenery of an area using the SDK tools and a few other bits and pieces without any help so far.I have the scenery working and it looks good in FS2004. I created it from an aerial photo and created my own land/water mask and everything seems fine. The area has a tract of water between the mainland and a small island offshore, for which I created my L/W mask so I get reflective water between the two. However, I have a question regarding the L/W mask and the textures that resample creates :-Resample seems to create blank/black empty textures for the water areas between the two land…
