Hello all. I'm working on a scenery to which I want to add few roads using Iain Murray's CoastlineMaker tool (CLM). I used this tool a couple of time before with success. But now, I'm stucked with a problem at the very start of it.I can't succeed to generate a viewable cellgrid overlay using CLM supplied function of R. Ludowise CellGrid tool. I religiously followed the instructions provided within CLM and redid it few times but no luck :-(Here's in brief what I did. 1- Get the coordinates of the area I want to work in.2- Use these values within CML's Cell Calculator to get the X-Y Lod8 cell coordinates.3- Using 192_127_grid.txt as a template, edit the text to insert X-Y c…

Hi! I just read the Beginner's guide to scenery design and I have a question:If I want to make landclass just for a small area, and not destroy the original landclass in the surrounding, how should I do that? Is there any specific Land Classification value that I should use for "undefined" area? Thanks in advance

I did not know where to post this question but I figured you guys in scenery design could help me out. I am looking to change the default runway textures at night to something more realistic. As you can see in the picture below the default night textures, the runway surface is clear and visible. In real life, however this is not the case. It is night and therefore you see nothing, only the runway lights. Is there any way to change the default and make it more realistic-as in black? The runway should be only visible when you turn on landing or taxi lights...hopefully someone can help. thanks in advance, N575US

Hello,in relation to the Pontchartrain-bridge question in another thread I came accross a strange observation: The distance to the first point in a VTP-bridge object seems to determine the display of this object. Background: This bridge across Lake Pontchartrain is quite long. In the FS world it crosses actually from one cell into another one. Its coordinates are even larger then the "safety zone" of 0-4079 or 12141-16320. So it is not possible to reproduced it with one single VTP line from the northern shore to the south. But you can build it with 2 bridge lines, starting at the shore and meeting each other at the cellborder in the middle of the lake.(It has the drawback,…

Hi.I've posted this query in a couple of places without much success so I thought you scenery designers might have the answer...!I need a simple ulility that allows you to enter the ID of an FS9 navaid (specifically a VORDME) and will return its Lat/Long coordinates and its elevation. Does such a tool exist? If not I'm going to have to dust off some pretty rusty programming skills!!Many thanks,Chris Kirk

Is there still no way to adjust the generic.bgl file to tweak autogen view distance? I've done some low and slow VFR flights lately and noticed a very annoying behaviour with default.xml placed autogen:1. With FS9.1 patch installed, view distance is ridiculously low. I mean *really* low. Can't be more than a mile at 0.75x zoom (that's right, zoom has an impact on the "distance", see point #3). This is obviously Microsoft's attempt to fix the autogen slowdown bug. 2.Obviously their fix doesn't work 100% as framerate is still significantly higher when you disable default.xml.3. It's not actually a "view distance" as such that they've adjusted in FS9.1. Try this:Find a red b…

Gday all.Has anyone of late noticed a delay in loading textures ( DXT ) for scenery when said textures have been converted by Imagetool from the latest SDK's ?I have noticed textures of 1024 x 1024 and 512 x 512 seem to be very slow in loading and cause a momentary pause in the scenery. To reduce the texture files any further would reduce the quality of the image. I have tried DXT2BMP but noticed the file size was larger and didnt notice any significant change. Textures are custom made from photo's and saved as 24 bit BMP untill conversion to DXT1 with mip maps added.rgds Jeff

HiI am making an afcad for Kai Tak (Hong Kong Old vhhx) airport for the Hong Kong 2004 scenery. At first all AI were sunk under the airport, but I decompiled the default airport .bgl file and inserted the correct elevation. Now the departing AI are on the tarmac, but landing aircraft still sink under the tarmac.I have tried adjusting the default airport (both the airport data and the runway data) and the afcad2 file to all sorts of elevations, but landing AI still insist on sinking under the airport.I've tried decompiling the HK2004 scenery .bgl's, but the all come up as invalid facility files which can't be decompiled.Any ideas what other elevation data I should be adjusti…

So, I created a landing platform for my helicopter: A simple circular disk. I created a hard landing surface following the instructions in the AttachTool Doc in the SDK. No problem, surface is landable. BUT: If I save the situation and reload, the Helicopter is always positioned on the ground, half burried in the platform. How can I tell FS that, on the startup, I am above the ground in the amount of the thickness of the platform?

I just discovered that MS has misplaced the long bridge (24 miles long) over Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans. Instead of being over the lake, it is over land on the North Shore. Is anyone capable of finding where MS hid the file (a bgl I presume) and correcting the location? The coordinates to see the problem are N30 21.70 and W 90 5.74 - try it at an altitude of 150 feet or so.If someone can do this it would make a lot of people who know the area very happy! Thanks in advance.David "Opa" [email protected]

Hi all,I'm just learning scenery design and have undertaken building a "custom" airport to learn on. I've searched everywhere I can find and haven't been able to come up to an solution for this problem, so I'm turning to the experts!I've created a couple of signs (using creatsign) and compiled them in to their own bgl file. When I start FS9 the signs are all there, but not in the right place. For example one taxiway sign appears in the middle of the ramp. Now comes the strange part! As I taxi toward the sign it appears to move slowly in to the correct position.Has anybody found a solution to this problem, or am I just going nuts? Thanks for any and all help!!Chuck

  20. Hi,I normally make photo scenery as a set of VTP square polygons. I assign a (VTP) layer to the photo scenery and so I control the drawing order. I just tried to mix one photo scenery made with the resampler (not as VTP polygons) with a normal VTP scenery. But, after playing with the priority order on the scenery library menu, I could not make the VTP part to appear on top of the photo part. Is it possible? I would expect that the photo part would "replace / mix with" the landclass part and then the VTP part would appear if it is given a layer greater than 3.Regards, Luis

HI,I am not a scenery programmer so some of my language used may not be accurate but please bear with me - I'm trying to learn about some of the programs used to create the scenery in FS2004. I've been opening some scenery object XML files and notice that there seems to be a "long form" and a "short form" XML file. In the"short form", the object is described in hexadecimal format. I've got some questions::-hmmm - 1. What is the difference between the "long form" and "short form" XML? - 2. Why the Hexadecimal format? - 3. Does the hexadecimal entry describe the object and it's parameters or does it link to some other file that describes the object? - 4. Is t…

Hi I've got a copy of German Airports 2 for FS2000, and I've been trying to get it to work correctly with FS2002, more as a dogged intellectual challenge than anything else, by decompiling bits of it to find out how it works. I've fixed the "bumpy Scenery" problem, and I've fixed invisible runways (I put all the Runway statements in one Area), now I'm trying to fix a "Giant Buildings" effect that appears at Frankfurt airport in particular- meaning that vastly oversized 3-D buildings appear briefly all over the landscape.TIATom

Okay, had my first go at creating some 'Airfield Types' for my scenery. Got various photos, masked individuals etc and used Easy Object Designer to actually create. Well they might look a picture of health in the photo but when they get to my airfield...well frankly they look a bit overweight, squat that is. What am I doing wrong here, the plate I used in EOB was set to be 6 feet high and about 2 feet wide which I thought was about right to get the photo on both sides, I have to admit they didn't look quite right then but they look worse in FS9, how do you get the dimensions right to portray something that looks rightAny help really appreciatedCheersPaul
