Hi all.Got a few things I'm having trouble with in AFCAD, and was wondering whether anyone might be able help out. (1) I can't bring up a dirt runway. I configure the runway and the associated taxiway elements to Dirt. I get dirt taxiway intersections, but the runway is always grass. (2) The three grass types (Grass, Grass2, Grass3) always resolve with the same texture when making a grass taxiway.(3) Multiple runways will not resolve when using an identicle texture. I'm trying to build in a few unused/inactive runways. If I use the same texture, only one of the runways will resolve in the FS environment. More than one runway will resolve if I use different textures, but t…

Hey,This is my first post at the Avsim forum. I'm a scenery developer of ProjectX. Together with my brother we make scenery (freeware) for use with te default FS2004 scenery. At the moment we make moving traffic around Schiphol Airport (EHAM). Yesterday I published a few preview shots and I really want to know what you think about it. All comments and suggestions are welcome.Regards,Paul Koopmanwww.supersim.com/projectx

Say that I want to add some autogen on a default area (for example Oslo); how do I figure out which texture ground tiles FS is using on this area?

I am looking for help from someone who has a good understanding of AFCAD. Steve Gonwa has a great KMKE(milwaukee) airport scenery. However, the AFCAD file that comes with it needs some work. The ILS and localizer paths do not line up properly with the runways. Also, the glideslope does not work properly with rwy 01. Rwy 01 and 19 share the same ILS frequency, and in the default scenery, they work great. But in this add on scenery, something is wrong with the glideslope for ILS rwy 01. Can anyone help me with these issues? If so, you can contact me at [email protected]. I can send you the file if needed, or you can download it from AVSIM and see what I mean. By the…

I have just completed a scenery file & have added AFCAD & some AI. When I use the Create Flight box in FS9, all the runways & parking positions show OK.But when I use the GPS or Maps, the written airport data only shows one runway. i.e. It shows rwy 34 but not 16. Also the graphic image on the GPS shows a purple circle with a small bar at the N,S,E & W positions, not the filled in circle with the runway direction showing as I expected.Any ideas why this has occurred or how it can be corrected?Peter

As a learning exercise, I am trying to fix a lake near Seattle (Sammamish) that sits way too high in the FSG mesh. I could create Area16N flattening polygons, but that seems like a band-aid approach. Would it not be cleaner to edit the default LWM polygons directly in the HP*.bgl?LWMViewer makes it easy to locate the area and export the data to bgs. And the SDK describes the LWM structure well enough to find the lake and the elevation data that need editing. But I see no way to recompile from a bgs.So next I decompile the bgl with BGLAnalyze. Surprisingly for an FS9 file, it requires the old version and generates asm code. This would be easy to recompile, but the da…

Is there one or a combination of programs that will use just the cell grid portion of a photo, using coordinates from all four corners? If I use TerraBuilder it will leave areas of grey on the eadges. No matter how I try, I cant find a program that will allow the input of all four corners, and give the desired results.Richard Hill

I am very new at this, but i want to make an airport of my own. I got Afcad and i have been messing around with it making the various taxiways and such. I ran into a problem though, i rebooted fs9 and it generated the scenery(all good so far) when i went to the airport i found that parts of the runway were submerged in the ground where some parts werent. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction as to a program or maybe a method to solve the program. I have looked at some tutorials but i havent seen anything that really pertains to my exact problem. Can anybody help me out?

I have been playing around with scenery design, mostly using RWY12 (which I think is a GREAT program) and have gotten to the point where I wanted to exclude some of the unrealistic looking buildings at my local airport and replace them whith some of the GA hangers- which match very closely what is really there. The problem is i can't get the XML generated by ExcBuilder into a BGL. I tried doing it using the program, and I even did a drag-and-drop on the ExcBuilderV2.exe, to no avail. BGLcomp seems to be working fine in all other cases- just not with ExcBuilder. I have included a copy of the XML code generated for this exclude- it has a suspicious looking "noNameSpace..." …

Well, the program is coming along great. Got over some very challenging hurdles on all my desired features and have added a few more. Here's the list of things that are now working in it:(sorry I don't have screen shots but I'm posting this from work and don't have the program in front of me.)1. Simple treeview-style user interface for identifying and opening (or creating) the appropriate .agn file for a selected .bmp tile. When browsing through your scenery areas, the DXT files are displayed as viewable images to make your selection easier. Ones that already have an associated .agn file created are clearly identified. 2. Once selected, the image is displayed as a …

I'm new to scenery editing and it's a bit confusing. I am trying to remove the default buildings that FS9 loads at my local airport.. I want to remove them so I can add different buildings instead using FSSE. Eventually, I want to design my own buildings, once I've put some work into learning the basics. I have read through the Beginers guide (what a great document), but didn't see exactly what I was looking for, as far as removing default objects. Thanks for your help:-) Chris "Crewchief408"

I also tried to export it as house.mdl but gmax write do not know how to save that file type. What i'm doing wrong any help is appreciated.

Hi in the introductory tutorial to this forum I found the following:Alpha ChannelsThese are used in textures to provide for reflectivity (only use in aircraft) or transparency. DXT1 and DXT3 format textures are often used on objects like fences or windows, where part of the object needs to be transparent. Is it really true that reflectivity only works on aircraft, and why?I'd like to be able to produce reflective effects on buildings- modern glasswalled office blocks.

I've just happened upon data tonight for transportation, (roads, rail, airports and rivers) as well as coastlines for Australia. The roads, rail, river data is 1m vector data and is available in a couple of formats...Anyone know of a tool that can batch convert the dataset from either vector or arcview (couple of other formats available if needed), to roads, rail and rivers for use in FS...I've got all the data downloaded and it was free, I will release the roads as freeware as soon as I can get the data converted :)I also need to go from the Aussie 94 datum to WGS84 anyone know of a free data converter?

Is there any way to use Runway12 to add or extend a default FS9 airport building to make a terminal bigger, but keep the same exact look and feel? I have a regional airport where I want to extend the main terminal. I've loaded all the libraries for Rwy12, but I don't see any FS9 default airport structures.Maybe the default buildings are not considered library objects and you have to build them from scratch? I have no scenery design expertise so I was hopeing for a simple solution.

Okay, I seem to have tracked down my watermapping issues and from what I can deduce it doesn't appear to have anything to do with waterclass...The problem is this:If one phototerrain tile contains only a water texture, and has the alpha channel set to black over the whole 256x256 pixel square then that whole tile is rendered as a ground phototile not a water phototile...Here's an image Notice that the tiles that have at least some white value in the alpha channel work correctly and turn the black alpha matte portions to water...The tiles that are just water and have only a black covering the entire alpha matte refuse to become a water polygon tile...Does anyone know a wor…

Gentlemen,I am seeking the preferred method of placing obstacle lighting with GMAX. I have little difficulty lighting ramps with spot lights and such but am clueless on how to place a steady red light on top of the hangars that has the nice glow of other lights in FS.Is the best way to use a plane with a _LM texture that rotates to viewer? If so, how, in GMAX, does one establish an object that rotates to face viewer? Thanks.

I downloaded some DOQ's advertised as 1 m/pixel, and used them in a background image in Ground2k4. After minutely tweaking the NW and SE extents so that my x and y resolutions are exactly 1 m/pixel in GR2k4 (+/- 0.1 percent) I find that the runway in the DOQ's translates to 129.5 degrees from true north clockwise. The FAA AirNav site says it is "131"...runway number is 33..magvar is approx 15 west of north. Here's the problem...I can distort the backgound image (on the y) axis to make the runway angle match up to the FAA (and the FS9) angle, but this means distorting who knows what else? If I submitted this to AVSIM with the runway angle at 129.5 and changed all the taxiw…

I have combined and resized original 2 ft to pixel photographs into about 25x25 minute area. I have tried TerraBuilded with some limited sucess. Hello all,I need to know how to calculate/find the U and V values for the calculations of LOD boundaries in scerery .inf files. That or how to calculate the Lat and Long of the Cell boundaries for any given location.I'm making Photorealistic Scenery for FS2004 for the Greater Townsville Area (North Queensland, Australia), and like most newbies I'm getting water around my scenery where my textures don't quite meet the LOD boundaries.I noticed that the niagara scenery has a [Destination] section with some calculations for where the resample.exe should crop the scenery tiles at the LOD boundaries to help fix this, but I don't know where they plucked the U and V values from …

Hi all. It's been a few years I've wanted to start these, but never found the time. Now I can, so...I like VFR flights for it allows me to "see" part of the world I'll probably never see. However, even if current flight sims are really good, they are not that much for VFR flight.Principally because they lack a lot of low level detail, like most roads, most "tipical buildings", and so on.Now, the "World Database Project"I was thinking about1) building up a database for containing informations coming from everywhere and about all the world.2) Writing a little software capable of doing graphical "path-following"3) Writing a little software capable of building "repeated-scenery…
