Hi designersI am a total newbie to scenery design but I have got the hang of the basics like AFCAD, Object placer and SceneryGenX (the new version of AFW which compiles XML files)Anyway, spent 2 days designing a superb detailed airport in SGX, checking back regularly to see it all looked OK it did. I was so pleased with this that I then prepared to drop in the objects and buildings.Before doing this I wanted to let the PC cool down a bit as its 'brain' was very hot so I shut down all my programs and went to make a cup of tea.On returning and runnig up FS2004 I go to my new airport and NO TAXIWAYS. What would be the best solution for creating light poles with flood light on the tarmac?I got this effect by placing a square a little over the 0 line with full transparency in the day map and a lighted circle on the night map, it works fine except for one thing, when an aircraft taxi or park over the light circle, the aircraft itself does not get light from the pole which looks odd.Any ideas how to get a good flood light effect with gmax?

Hi there,Abacus recently released two programs for use in scenery design: EZ-Scenery, and FSDS3. I have been using both these programs for the last few days, and I have some observations which I'd like to share.To start with, FSDS3 is simply an update to FSDS2 which allows us to export our models in the .x format, which allows them to be compiled by the version of makemdl.exe which came with the FS2004 SDK. Otherwise, there don't seem to be many changes in the program. If you are a GMAX user, there isn't much point to getting this program. Still, this is a long-awaited update for the many FSDS2 users who never really got into bed with GMAX. I'm pretty happy to back …

Hi scenery creators. Have any one succeeded in excluding a Gaz-refill zone,and put another one at the right place ? The exclusion I made worked, but the new zone I madewith Airtport-for-Windows, does not seem to work. I would not mind it, to be invisible. That, I wouldtell in the TXT file. Tried an idea...make a textured poly in GMAX and use it to 'paint' taxiways at the airport I'm working on using Afcad and EZ-Scenery. It's really fast once you get the 'stencil' done! hi,well, i have been playing around, and this is what i get: coastal waters and rivers right around my airplane do not show up. i reinstalled different water-sets to no avail. what shall i do ? which files are corrupted / missing ?any hint will be very very appreciated :-)sinzow

My scenery is using an AFCAD file to assist in what is and isn't dirt at the airport, etc.I have used the Apron Routes for taxiways, and runways for runways. The file works perfect, however, it seems that the night lighting for the edge lights, etc does not. If I start on the runway at night, at the very end of the runway I can see the slightest bit of the lights it seems, leading me to believe my custom plain for the custom taxiways and runways is somehow overlapping the afcad for lights, etc. What to do?Just for giggles, I made the elevation of the afcad 100 ft. higher than it was, and it didn't seem to make any difference. Any ideas?Cameron

Hi everyone, I just need to tap the collective knowledge base for a second here. I am building a sloping dirt runway using the "textured polygon" function of Sbuilder (VTP polys don't have the resolution I need). Luis Sa said in the Sbuilder forum that it may be possible to manually edit the SCASM file on these polys to get them to display seasonal textures. The polys use the "Texturelist" command. However, I found a thread here from 2003 saying that "Texturelist" could not call seasonal textures. Is this still true, or has a workaround been found? If "Texturelist" won't work, can someone give the Ifvarrange syntax for seasonal conditional display (ala FS98)? Is t…

I have tried making an apron and runway (for FS9) using Gmax and the bglc9 compiler. The results I have obtained are generally okay but when viewing the airport from above, the joints between the planes (or each textured area) are visible. Is there any way to reduce this effect? I have tried overlapping the plane and the bmp but still get some form of line.Would be grateful for some help please. Colin

Hi fellas.Could anyone please tell me where in the LWM file I can find the data for the mesh edits. I've inadvertantly placed mesh points outside the NthWst/SthEst map area of the working environment, which means I can't eliminate them in the normal way. So, I thought I might be able to get ride of them in the LWM file. However, it's not clear to me what I should be looking for.Any ideas?Cheers,Matthew.

Can you clarify this for me? When I use a local MDL file in ObPlacerXML to place a custom GMAX object I've made ObPlacer outputs a .bgl file. Does that bgl file contain the model? Or does it refer back to the mdl file? In other words: If I install that .bgl file on a new machine by itself and activate it, will it work?Che

I'm using ground2k4 to make a scenery set at Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. The water color varies from bright blue to dark blue and I'm trying to depict this with different water classes. Ground2k produces waterclass files in .raw format, not .tmf. How do I compile .raw waterclass files into .bgl format? Che

Gmax/FS Look-AT link constraint failure.I have been attempting to create the effect of a paddle wheel driven by a crank and driver rod, a bit similar to a crank shaft and piston rod. I use an offset object linked to the wheel to simulate the crank. That object is then used via the animate/constraint/look-at feature in Gmax to point to a distant point so that it faces that point as the wheel rotates. It all works beautifully in Gmax but does not export correctly to the FS model. In the FS model the object simply acts like a linked object, rotating with the wheel but failing to face the look-at point.Must be an FS limitation.Jim Jones
